Found Her

Splash

Selina's last view of the ocean contained a million shades of gray like old photographs. Her body let the waves hug her body tightly. At first, it was difficult to ignore the suffocating pressure under water. Slowly, her body adapted to the feeling and relaxed itself; letting the water capture her.

'This is the warmest hug I've ever received.' She thought as her consciousness faded.

"We found her!" Shortly after Jason had given the life guards instructions, they scattered around the area where she had fallen. Jason was the first to discover her drowning body and brought her to the surface. Handing her soaked figure to the medical staff on board, he then followed behind and climbed onto the boat.

"How is she?" Aaron handed a towel to Jason, but he used it to cover her body instead. Even though medical staffs had already covered her body with a blanket, he still insists on giving his towel to her.

"Boss, you'll get sick. Leave it to the doctors."

"She's more important than my health right now! How is she? She's been under water for at least three minutes!" Jason's voice echoed loudly as frustration nailed his heart. 'If I drove faster! If I got there before she jumped, she might not have gone this far! Who was it? Who forced her up this path?'

Laying her body on her back, the doctor tilted her chin and head backwards. Jason watched as she was given five rescue breaths and CPR. The entire process happened in slow motion in his reddened eyes. His fists were clenched with enough strength for his white knuckles to float on his skin.

"Selina Gu! Selina! I know you can hear me. You can't give up. I just found you. Don't you dare die on me! I won't allow you to die before you fulfill your promise! If you leave me, you'll be contradicting your words from the past. You'll be leaving me all alone to face this lonely world. You'll be just like the other people out there! You hear me? You can't fail me."

"Anyone can cheat me out and fail me, but you can't! Selina, wake up! Open your eyes and look at me!!" He was out of breath and panting for air to circulate to his body.

Perhaps his voice did have some effect on her. After his words were said by her ears, she spat out mouthfuls of water and collapsed again.

"We need to get her to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Her wound is not doing good at all!" The doctor said as he noticed the blade wound on her chest had begun bleeding again. As they made a shortcut to shore, Aaron reminded Jason of something very important.

"Boss, what if her family members are looking for her? Should we disclose her condition to them?" Knowing Jason's personality, he wouldn't allow any mistakes nor accidents happen to Selina on their way to the hospital.

"Shut out all information about her. Before I get to the bottom of this, I won't let anyone get close to her. I won't allow anyone to hurt her." From the moment he stepped foot on land again, she hadn't left his embrace. The only time he was forced to let her go was during the ride in the ambulance and when they reached the hospital.

Outside the operations room, nurses rushed in and out with tools and carts. As much as Jason wished to stop them, he couldn't. He couldn't afford any delays to her treatment. While slouching on one of the benches, he stared at his empty hands. The cold temperature of her body was incomparable to her pale complexion.

The quiet, deadly atmosphere continued for as long as she was behind the closed doors. Minutes seemed like hours. Aaron opened his mouth a few times, but no words came out of it. Finally, doctors came out and took off the bloody gloves and mask.

"I'm sorry, but the patient has been under water for too long. Even though the water was cleared out through CPR, she's now in a coma. We can't say for long she will stay in this condition. The highest chances of her waking up would be within the first three months of the coma period. Also, the wound on her chest has been stitched, but it may leave a scar."

"We're transferring to a different hospital. Aaron, have the best doctors gathered at the private hospital I always go to. Find out everything that happened today and how she got injured." Hearing the doctor's diagnosis, Jason believed she could receive the best treatment elsewhere.

At the same time, police officers and ambulances surrounded the area under the bridge where Selina had jumped into. They searched for a long time until it was too dark to continue with the searches.

"I'm sorry, but it's already been hours since we've started with the search. We can't recover her body. If she doesn't know how to swim just like you've mentioned, then the chances of her survival are extremely low. You should expect the worst at this point. My condolences." The officer said as he signaled the staff to stop the search.

"That can't be. Selina won't die like this. It must be a mistake. Maybe she fell and held onto something! Maybe she is still waiting for us to rescue her! Please, go again. I beg you. I only have this sister. I'll do anything, so please go again. Even if it's for half an hour more! She could be alive somewhere and waiting for help!" He grabbed the officer's arm and refused to let go.

Katrina separated him from the officer and said. "Bryan, Selina doesn't know how to swim. We also didn't see her body after she fell. We..."

"Mom! Are you saying we should give up? How could you say this? She's your daughter! She could be shivering helplessly in the cold right now! I haven't even asked you what lead her to suicide yet and I'm coming up with more inquiries than ever! Mom, speak honestly. Are you the reason why she jumped? Were you being mean to her again?"

"What are you talking about? I didn't do anything. She came home all bloody and suddenly ran to her car. I didn't even know what was wrong!" Katrina averted her gaze and stared at the deep waves in front of her.

Sighing, Bryan apologized for his question. "I..I'm sorry, mom. I didn't mean to put it that way. I am just very worried for her. I really want to look for her. Unless we find her body, or else I won't believe she is dead."

Patting the back of his hands, she sighed. "Son, it's late. Even if we camp out here, we won't be able to do much help. How about we come back tomorrow when it's bright? We can have them look again." Since there was nothing he could do for now, he agreed and walked back to their car.

As they passed by Selina's car, Bryan stopped and saw the car keys inside the vehicle. "Mom, I won't leave her car here like this. I'll drive her car home first. How about you stay here and watch my car for a bit? I'll come back." Before she could object to his idea, he had already hopped into the driver's seat and drove away.

After he separated from his mother, he parked Selina's car in a nearby parking lot and started searching for clues. He found her bag with minimal products inside. Her wallet, keys and lipsticks were still in her purse.

Ring

From the bottom of the driver's seat, he found her phone and answered the call. "Hello?"

"Hello, Miss. Gu. This is Mariana Hotel. You've booked the honeymoon suite with restaurant reservations tonight. It's been half an hour since the check-in time. Do you still want to keep the reservation?"

"Sorry, we're not coming anymore." Leaning backwards on the leather seat, Bryan's tears started falling. After a few minutes later, he realized something wasn't right.

"The staff said she booked a reservation for tonight? Then she shouldn't have gone to the bridge out of nowhere. Her cellphone..."

Entering the passcode again, he successfully unlocked her phone. Other than the message from Shirley Han telling her to go to Peter Sin's office, nobody had contacted her.

"Peter Sin..Is this what you meant by taking care of my sister? It better not be you who hurt her or I'll have you regret it. Selina..What have you been through to make you suicide? What happened? Where are you?"
