33 Blindfold Them

The vibration of a text message from his phone snapped him out of his inner thoughts. He quickly composed himself before checking the message. Staring at the words on his screen, he looked up once again and saw Jason placing his index finger against his lips. Then, he pointed at Selina who was sleeping soundly as if the world had nothing to do with her.

Unlocking his phone with a passcode, Aaron replied to Jason's text. "Boss, you have an invitation for a party dinner tonight. The Han family and Sin family are all attending the party according to their response. Rumors are circulating around saying the ruler of the underworld will also be there."

Dimming the brightness on his phone to the lowest level, Jason read the text with a raised brow. His sight landed on the sleeping girl in his arms and back to his phone. With his right thumb, he texted back, "Not going."

Aaron blinked at the simple response and stared at his boss who was shaking his head lightly. He stared at the keyboard on his phone and subconsciously stamped his thumb against the wailing emoticon until it reached paragraph length. Then, he erased it and typed a proper response to the mighty lord in bed.

"Boss, you must attend tonight. The host for tonight's party is one of our most important clients! This invitation is purposely printed in gold for a reason. You're invited as the VVIP! Double V's to highlight your essential spot!"

With a blank expression, Jason raised a smirk and sent a reply to him. "Then you go in my place."

Aaron felt like he got struck by lightning twice. He could almost hear the sizzle from his hair getting fried. "Boss, they know how you look. They're not blind."

Another reply was delivered to his phone. The devil has spoken. "Then blindfold them."

Rendered speechless by the response, Aaron almost wanted to tell him that he isn't the one catering the party! Right when his fingers worked on the next text of persuasion, Selina groaned and rubbed her eyes.

"Nmmm..." She sounded sleepy and wanted to continue dreaming. Fortunately, for Aaron, Selina was sensitive to other people's presence. Instead of falling back to sleep, she yawned and forced her eyes opened. With her arm still hugging Jason's waist, she rubbed her cheeks against his chest. Her disheveled hair was brushed away from her eyes.

"Ah...what time is it? Aaron, you're here so early."

Hearing her voice was like heaven's bell ringing in his ears! Aaron quickly said, "Good morning, Selina. It's 7:05 A.M. right now."

"Hmmm? 7..05? Are you here to discuss work with Jason? If so, you two can carry on. Don't mind me. I'll just be here....." Her voice trailed off, but not because of drowsiness. Her eyes blinked energetically as her hand felt up Jason's back. Flashbacks of the previous night entered her mind as her eyes wandered upwards to meet Jason's smile.

"Morning, Selina." He smiled and waved his phone at her.

Gulping saliva down her throat, she slipped her arm away from his body and sat up. "M..Morning...I'm sorry. Was I interrupting your work? You should have woken me up." Gathering her hair into a quick bun, she tried hopping out of bed.

"Aaron just got here. You weren't causing any disruptions." Jason also started moving his legs to stretch them out.

As soon as her feet touched her slippers, her head started spinning. Jason caught her from behind as her body fell backwards to the bed. Her eyes were squinted close as the crease between her brows deepened.

"Selina! Are you alright?" Jason asked as his hands tightened around her shoulders. Aaron ran out to get the doctor, but Selina's words halted his steps.

"I'm fine. I just got up too quick. It's a head rush moment. I'll be fine, so no need to call the doctor." She took deep breaths and lifted her eyelids after a while. Although she claimed she was alright, Jason still carefully walked her to the bathroom and waited outside the door for her.

While waiting, Aaron addressed the earlier issue about tonight's party. "Boss, you must attend tonight's party. Even if you show up half way and leave, it's still better than not showing up. Besides, the invitation is specifically for you and printed using real gold."

Before Jason could reject again, the bathroom door creaked. Selina walked out with a toothbrush in her hand. "Sorry, I overheard your conversation just now. Is there somewhere you need to be tonight?" She heard Aaron's troubled voice in the bathroom, so she decided to walk out to see what was wrong.

"It's nothing important." Jason smiled.

Maintaining eye contact with him with disbelief across her face, she crossed her arms and turned to Aaron. Pointing to Jason, she asked, "Is he telling the truth?"

With his boss glaring on one end and the interrogative future mistress on the other, Aaron really wanted to exaggerate a collapse scene to avoid answering the ultimate death question. At the end, he decided to tell her about the party so that he could avoid death from both sides.

"Actually, there is a dinner party event hosted by one of our important clients. Boss was invited as the VVIP."

Nodding, Selina turned her attention to Jason. "Stop scaring your assistant with glares. Did you think I can't see you in the corner of my eyes? Since it is an important client's invite, you must attend tonight. No excuses. You've slacked off for the past month because of me already. Don't delay work any further."

"But you just recovered. You were still having nightmares last night. What if something happens to you while I'm gone? What if you run out of water? What if you get lost on your way to the examination room? What if you follow bad strangers while I'm gone? What if-" Jason started listing the most possible to impossible scenarios that he could think of.

Knock Knock

The sound of knocks made his long questions come to a pause. The doctor entered the room with exam results in his hands. "What a lively gathering you guys have here. How are you feeling? Miss. Gu."

Selina greeted the doctor with a polite smile. "Good morning. I'm feeling better than yesterday."

"Good. The results of your reports look excellent. If everything goes well with your blood test today, then you will be able to discharge by the end of this week. Take a good rest and drink plenty of water." The doctor smiled at her as if flowers could be seen blooming around him.

Before the doctor exited the room, Selina had asked, "Doctor. Since you said my body exams came out with positive results, can I leave the hospital for a few hours and then come back? I won't be alone. Jason and Aaron would be with me."

Rubbing his chin for a few minutes, the doctor nodded. "That should be fine. As long as you don't consume anything I told you to stay away from, you should be okay. Just make sure to complete the body exams in the afternoon before heading out."

"Thank you." She clapped cheerfully and turned towards Jason. With an obvious hinting smile, she said, "Now, you don't have to worry. You can go to the party while I wait in the car!"

If the boss wasn't here right now, Aaron would have applauded her intelligence! 'Now the boss won't have any reasons nor excuses to not attend the party!!! Finally, there's someone to control this devil!' He cheered inwardly with a bright smile spread on his face.

Sighing, Jason patted her head. "You. If you feel the tiniest bit uncomfortable, make sure to tell me later. Understand? Also, Aaron, help her prepare a set of clothes. Make sure there are extra blankets and plenty of water in the car."

When he turned around, he realized Aaron was already giving instructions over the phone to gather everything Selina might need.

Meanwhile, Selina patted her chest lightly and sighed softly.
