13 Surprise Quarry

It has been a few days since the last hunt and his hand is finally thawed. The ice was much more potent than would be expected but that is because magic. He had been unable to even move a finger till now as he was frozen to the core. Thankfully there is no permanent damage since he is a skeleton and now has full use of his hand again. There was also no packs this entire time that came in the area, which is weird, but he wasn't gonna be dumb and fight one handed.

Now that he was battle ready he is gonna go check and see if anything happened to the pool of meat. This is, in part, his curiosity to see if it became an undead. He knew it is theoretically possible since he is one, but he also hasn't seen any other undead since he woke up. Of course this could just result in him having to figure out how to kill a living pile of meat but it could also ally with him. Though his biggest fear is to find death bird eating it.

So with bow in hand Z carefully makes his was over since he is just a few houses away. As he approaches he was scanning the area for signs of movement and found none. Not even the rabbits which are literally everywhere normally could be seen. This did not make him feel good but he could only cautiously check or bail. Thankfully he didn't see a giant bird in the area so there is that.

As he approaches the yard it is soaked and some places are still frozen. As he approaches the pool it is empty. Hell it didn't even have a drop of blood in it let alone a piece of meat. He climbed down and looked for any signs of what happened and found a small hole not even big enough for his fist. Sighing he decides to leave and check on the pack.

Of course he is staying out in the open as little as possible mainly darting in and out of houses. This actually saved him since as he was about to leave he almost jumped right in front of a pack of wolves. This pack was on edge and had no lesser wolf. In fact it was being lead by the alpha female. The death of almost half the pack must have pissed them off. Well this is gonna be fun.

Of course he as gonna let them pass and wait for a better spot until he saw them blasting the houses the pass. Effectively eliminating the hiding places for anything that might threaten them. Z thankfully got under a metal desk that was in this house right as a bolt of lighting blasted the wall towards the pack. The debris didn't burry the desk but actually gave him cover to hide as a wolf jumped in the house searching. The down side is that it was very destructive in its search causing more of the house to collapse on top of everything. The wolf then started digging through the rubble and would find Z soon. So readying his bow he took aim and as he was about to fire a yelp was heard from the neighboring house. This caused the hunting party to immediately react towards that house diving in with an elemental furry.

Of course when the wolf moved some debris shifted allowing Z to see clearly what is happening as from the ground a wolf is impaled. This wolf killed instantly is slowly mummified as it is drained only its bones remain after a few seconds before they are thrown aside the green tentacle slides back into the earth. Z doesn't move an inch bow notched and ready for the attacker to appear since he knows it will come out soon.

The next second a tentacle shoots out of the ground impaling another but not killing it instantly like the last. This let the others leap on it and send their electric energy pulse through it. Yeah all these wolves in this party shoot electricity. Of course the thing receiving this shock was not happy and bursts from the ground with more tentacles or should I say vines flailing in the air. It immediately goes to kill the three shocking it but they are also alert and dodge. Sadly one wasn't fast enough and was scratched while the impaled one breaks the vine within it before collapsing on the ground.

Of course Z recognized this as something he has not only killed but grew. Its another flower of death and this one is way scarier and stronger. Though Z notices a key thing about it and he plans on exploiting that the first chance he can. The wolves immediately start shooting lightning at the vines. Each bolt frying a vine severing it as they dodge the attacks. Of course the only one that seems to be able to not get more than shallow cuts it the alpha female. The other two are not so lucky as the one that was initially cut was taken down quickly while the other is still alive but just barely.

The flower at this point lets out a loud shriek that causes the wolves to freeze though the alpha recovers in a second. This did allow the flower to slice the lesser wolf in to halves and even get a decent cut on the alpha. Of course this caused the alpha to go berserk and actually heal the wound some. It then released a massive amount of lighting frying all the vines that have been extended. The alpha seeing the flower with nothing left to protect it leaps in its mad furry dropping its guard. As it is inches from the flower one last vine shoots from the ground impaling the wolf through its chest killing it as an arrow hits the base of its stem right above the roots. The flower screeches out as it collapses to the ground quickly wilting.

Z pulls himself out from the rubble spear in hand as he goes to the dying wolf that lead to the flower's exposure. He quickly stabs it killing it and then goes and checks that the others are dead. Once that was done he began harvesting all the useable parts from the wolves especially their cores. Though the one that was drained to a skeleton had no core inside it as the flower had devoured it when it drained it dry. Though there was one thing that Z was hesitant to take though, the flower's core.

This core looked just like the last one except it was bigger and the crimson color was much more vibrant. The colors also changed without moving some spots getting darker and others brighter. Though Z knew if he left it something worse might get it or even worse the flower might come back. He really didn't want either of those so even if he doesn't use it he will still take it. Of course Z kept going towards the main pack now that 13 have died he needed to observe it again.

Thankfully the hunting party did not destroy every house but only the ones they got close to. So upon arriving there the house he used last time was still there and he had stashed the materials he couldn't use immediately in a near house at the time. He made some more wolf horn arrows as he started watching the pack of now 9 wolves with a very upset alpha female. Yeah he had the roles backwards this entire time he found out butchering its corpse. Also it seemed to sense her mate had died.
