Chapter 1.

"It says here that my room is right down the hall" Alexis said to Noah staring down at the slip in her hand as they walked down the long corridor.

"Good, cuz there's no way I'm going up those stairs" Noah replied dragging one of Alexis' suitcases behind him.

He looked so pissed.

It was Alexis' first day at Bevard University and her older brother Noah didn't seem so enthusiastic about it, mostly because he never wanted her to go there. According to him, the school was terrible and he knew that because he was in his fourth year in the school, he believed he had seen it all.

"I hope my roommate is a hot senior" Alexis said raising her head to stare at Noah obviously waiting for his reaction.

A part of her was just joking and another part might have actually wanted a hot senior roomie.

"If your roommate is a guy, I'm calling mum immediately and you're switching schools"Noah shot back.

It was bad enough that Alexis was attending Bevard, then she was going to get a male roommate? ' Hell no! ' Noah thought

"Or I could just switch rooms" Alexis rolled her eyes. He was way too serious.

"I don't even know why you chose to come here" Noah began

"This topic again?" Alexis rolled her eyes.

It was like the third time he was bringing up the topic just that morning and Alexis was getting sick of it.

"Yeah" Noah replied "I mean, you got an admission into Stanford, why didn't you go there?" He questioned

"Cuz I didn't want to, I have the right to decide which university I attend" Alexis replied obviously uninterested in the discussion.

"Most of your high school friends are going there" he added

"Yeah, including Adam and LeAnne" Alexis shot back.

Then Noah paused to turn to her.

'hold up a second' he thought.

"Is this about them?" He asked with his two eyebrows raised but Alexis didn't reply, she just kept walking "Alexis, did you turn down Stanford because of those two?" He asked again curiously staring at his little sister.

"So what if I did?" Alexis fired "it's my choice" she added

"I can't believe you Alexis" Noah said with a sigh.

"Yeah whatever" She muttered rolling her eyes again "Oh look here we are" Alexis announced stopping in front of a door.

Boldly written above the door in black paint was the number 118.

Alexis grabbed the door handle and carefully opened the door stepping in with her luggage and Noah behind her.

Her first room in college.

The room was painted white and there were two beds pushed to the walls on both sides of the room. The bed on the right was bare while the other one was perfectly laid with plain black sheets.

It was obvious her roommate had arrived.

"Black sheets?" Alexis questioned "well that's creepy " she added turning to face Noah who still looked pissed.

"At least she's a girl" Noah replied pointing to the shoes lined up by the side of the bed.

They were all black and mostly boots.

"Anyways, I'm gonna have to leave now, I need to settle in too" Noah began "just keep your head low and don't do anything stupid. Remember you're no longer in highschool and so many things are different here, especially the guys, stay away from them and-" he was saying as he started backing towards the door

"Stop lecturing me like I'm stupid and can't think on my own" Alexis said cutting him short "do you even trust me?" She asked with both eyebrow raised.

Then there was a short silence, Noah just stared straight at Alexis.

"Hell no" he replied breaking the silence

"Well that's your problem" Alexis said grabbing one of her suitcases and turning away

"Alexis listen to me" Noah said and she immediately turned back "I know you think Bevard is such a great place just because of what you've heard but take it from someone who's now a senior, this school is pretty much bullshit" he explained

"Ok" Alexis replied not willing to prolong the discussion

"So I'm gonna leave now," Noah began grabbing the door handle "good luck with your maniac roommate" he added and he flung the door open

"Maniac?" The voice echoed in Noah's head

The girl stood at the doorpost with a cup in her hand and she stared directly into Noah's eyes. She wore a plain black shirt, a pair of black jeans and a black leather jacket tied around her waist with a pair of black boots.

Her hair was black with red dye on the tips and her black make up intimidated Noah.

"Oh hey Candace" Noah said with a nervous smile

"Noah" she replied stepping into the room ignoring Alexis

Noah stepped out of the room and Alexis hastily followed behind him closing the door.

"You know her?" She asked right before Noah could even start walking away.

"Yeah" Noah replied "she's a sophomore. I've bumped into her like one or five times in school" he added

"Oh" Alexis said

"Be careful with her, she's some sort of a psychopath" Noah told her "I'll see you around" he added and he began to walk away.

Alexis turned and walked back inside the room.

Her roommate just sat on her bed sipping whatever was in her cup as she stared directly into her soul.

Usually, Alexis wasn't the type to start a conversation and she had decided to work on herself, getting into college and all that but Candace didn't seem like the chatty kind so.. 'no thanks' she thought

She grabbed both her suitcases and pulled them to the side of her bed. She laid the first one down and unzipped it.

She wanted to settle in as fast as possible so she could look into her schedule.

She had classes the next day.

"You know, your brother is wrong," Candace began putting an end to the awkward silence "I'm not a psychopath" she continued getting up from her bed. She dropped her cup on the table by the side of her bed and she turned back to Alexis "just don't mess with me and there'll be peace" she said "also, the familiarity doesn't go beyond this room" she immediately added and she walked into the bathroom.

"Well, I can cross out having hella fun with my roomie off my to-do list cuz that obviously ain't happening" Alexis muttered to herself as she pulled her suitcases to the side of her bed.

Candace was definitely not the fun kind of roommate.

***

Soon it was 8pm. Alexis stood in front of the basin in the bathroom brushing her teeth. She rinsed out her mouth and her toothbrush and she raised her head to stare at herself in the mirror. It was so quiet, she could hear herself breathing.

"College can't be that hard" she muttered "you got this Alexis" she added.

She was so happy to be in college, it was all she dreamt of throughout the summer holiday but at the same time she was so nervous. It was an entirely new world for her.

'it's different from highschool' her brother had told her 'A lot of shit happen and there barely any rules. Keep your head low and move with the right crowd. Then you might survive'

She placed her toothbrush in the holder and stepped out of the bathroom and into the room.

Bevard was pretty expensive and private bathrooms was one of the reasons.

"Well here's the roomie!" She heard a voice exclaim as she closed the bathroom door behind her. She sharply raised her head knowing it wasn't Candace.

..... definitely not Candace, the voice sounded cheerful.

The black girl walked towards her with a wide smile on her face. She wore a black and white striped shirt tucked into a black pleated mini leather skirt. She wore a pair of black leather boots and her long black braids were packed into a ponytail dangling behind her head.

Candace just sat on her bed with her phone in her hand ignoring everything.

"Hi, I'm Dianne" she said stretching her hand for a handshake. "Candace's cousin" she added with a smile.

She spoke differently. She had an accent. Alexis had heard different accents and she could identify a lot but she had no idea what that was.

"I'm Alexis" She replied shaking Dianne's hand.

"Cool"Dianne began "so, Lexi then" she added

"Yeah, that's fine" Alexis replied with a smile.

"You must be a freshman cuz ,I don't know you. " She said "and trust me, I know at least ninety percent of the students here " she added

"Yh, it's my first day" Alexis replied getting kind of tired of the conversation.

"Well, I'm in my second year. I'm a sophomore just like Candace but trust me, that's where the similarities end" Dianne said laughing a bit, exposing her teeth.

"I heard that" Candace said without turning away from her phone

"That's cuz I wasn't being quiet Candace" Dianne shot back "so, Lex, I could help show you around, if you don't mind. You know, help you get to know the place" she added

"Yeah that'd be amazing" Alexis smiled.

She really needed someone to help her settle in and Dianne was being such an angel.

"Cool, we're gonna be such great friends" Dianne said. "There's a party in the compound tonight to begin the new year, wanna come?" She asked bluntly

"Party?" Alexis drew back her head

"Yeah and don't worry, it's totally fine, there's just gonna be a few drinks and music. Nothing else. It's gonna be fun" Dianne immediately explained

"Dianne, you can't take a freshman to a party on her first day" Candace said finally getting up from her bed

"Why do you care?" Dianne shot back. "Well?" She questioned turning back to Alexis

"Well..." Alexis began looking down at her silky green night gown.
