Joy Long: A Fantasist

The novel deals with the amazing life of a 27 years old man named Joy Long. A Chinese-American low-level employee of a Hollywood acting agency who plays several cameo roles. His only dream is to win an Oscar and make his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Joy, from his day-to-day fantasies, came to the USA from China. However, is the Hollywood world good enough for a lonely man? Could he survive the racist world around him? Of all the women in the world, Joy only loves one. His Idol: Marilyn Monroe. Joy, who has been dreaming of his beloved star for years, watches the world in wonder and doubt. The gray world outside is as much comedy as the B&W movies. Joy's character surrounded by an aura of sadness manifests itself in the form of instinctive and repressed hatred. Joy's flattering and dramatic demeanor masks his anger with the humor in his words... as if Joy Long is doomed to draw forever a wall between the real world and the world he has created. What happens to this lonesome man? Can he return from the fantasy to the reality he once escaped, or his dreams will swallow him?
