7 Chapter 7 : Magic awakening and construction

James quickly went towards the screams and saw the others move away from Diana, whose palms had a kind of blue energy coming out of her.

His face clearly showed his panic, James then approached in front of his companions' eyes and looked at Diana's palm for a moment before saying in a reassuring tone.

"Calm down, it's called mana, it won't hurt you."

He putting his hand on her arm and explained in simple words how to control his mana.

Two hours later Diana managed to slightly control her mana which surprised James.

"She was too slow to control, it had taken me only a minute when I had mana, but I should do more research on the blue stone, it can appear to be awake at mana, Diana being a perfect example."

James asked her to rest and then decided to teach her how to control her mana in addition to the English classes he was giving.

Others learning that Diana had a power similar to that of the chief were jealous at first but they all rejoiced afterwards.

They were in a world full of danger having someone else with extraordinary abilities like James' will allow them to hunt even more animals and protect themselves from predators.

Discovering the effects of the blue stones James called one by one his ten other companions then made them each touch a stone.

They all fainted and out of the ten, nine people had begun to show the same symptoms as Diana, their mana began to burn their skins, without James' intervention they would have already died, but one of them, Alake, woke up to the mana with no after-effects, he woke up first several hours later and was able to control his mana as soon as he woke up.

James explained as simply as possible to Alake how to control the mana, and then asked him and Diana to watch the others who had fainted.

In the meantime James took an animal skin and started to draw a plan with a piece of charcoal.

Time passed, the next day the others all woke up one by one at different times, forcing James to spend the day explaining the mana to them.

Seeing everyone focused on manipulating the mana taught James certain things.

"According to my observations, mana is like a kind of parasite that settles in the body and feeds on some kind of energy in the air to recover.

"Besides that, the control of mana is different from one person to another, everyone present woke up to mana thanks to my help except Alake who has some kind of affinity with mana, he is the only one who didn't suffer any rejection at his mana awakening."

"Although his control is weaker compared to mine, he is still better than the others."

James let them practice their control and then used his mana knife and started carving stone tools. After a day's work, he created twelve rustic stone hammers, and more than 200 pointed wooden stakes of about 30cm and others of 10cm.

James returned to camp and found that by Tang's side, who was lighting the fire, everyone was asleep.

"What's going on?"

"Chief, despite your warning, they have used too much mana and fainted from exhaustion."

James shook his head and came and sat down, despite their survival skills they were still children, the oldest were Tang, Suzuki, Diana and Alake who were about 16 or 14 years old the others were all about 12 or 13 years old but in this world with a low survival rate where a simple flu would decimate a tribe, they could already be considered adults.

The next day James woke everyone up at sunrise and showed them the plan he had drawn on an animal skin.

"This is our future home, and from today you will all help me build it, without exception."

Then James showed them the hammers he had made and divided the tasks among each person.

Alake (boy) and Tang (boy) were in charge of sanding the wood.

Ferdinand(boy), Suzuki (boy) and Sun (girl) had to carry the logs to the place indicated by James.

John (boy), Diana (girl) and Lennerd (boy) were responsible for driving the wooden stakes into the slots James had created in the logs to be used as a wall.

Maha (boy), Muzaina (girl), Sabeena (girl) were in charge of making the roofs with the boards and wood that James had already cut.

On the first day of work, James was forced to explain to them how to do their jobs, but four days later they were able to do their jobs on their own. James also had to modify some of his plans because it was not working where the location of some elements was a problem.

After a week of work they managed to build their first wooden cottage but it collapsed the next day due to the poor structure of the design.

Thankfully no one was inside, James realized that being a carpenter was harder than he thought.

He continued to refine his plans and only stopped working with others when he went hunting.

Finally after two months of alternating construction and destruction, they managed to build their first wooden houses.
