Betrayal

Anyone who saw me would assume that I'm a zombie. There were injuries all over my face, my white clothes stained in blood, and my legs felt numb. But I still managed to walk barefoot to the ocean shore as everyone stared at me. But who cares? I was betrayed by my trusted aides, and it really hurts.

I was supposed to be at Li Xiu's wedding ceremony, but I ended up all messed up at the ocean shore. The water felt cold as it touched my feet when I knelt down beside the shore. I saw my reflection on the water's surface.

This is not the beautiful Yang Hua that guys follow around. This is an ugly Yang Hua with a face full of bruises, I thought with tears rolling down my cheeks as memories of what transpired earlier recalled in my head.

"And who do we have here?" the voice brought me back from my thoughts, but I still didn't look up to see the person as I wasn't interested. His reflection showed on the water's surface. He's an old man with lots of wrinkles, probably in his late seventies.

"Your tears are annoying, young lady. It's too loud that I could hear it from my hiding space. Can't you just go somewhere else?" he said angrily, but I wasn't concerned about that as I continued shedding tears uncontrollably as memories kept on flowing.

"Alright, just tell me what the problem is exactly," he said as he sat down beside me, but I just wished no one would disturb me at that very moment. I just wanted to be left alone.

"It's fine, child. We all have bad days, but we can't allow a single bad day to take away our smile," he said, and I felt calmness in his tone. I guess I can just tell someone about my pains. Probably I'll be relieved from the burden.

"I was betrayed," I muttered amidst sadness and depression as I raised my head to see the stranger.

"Humans must go through betrayal. That's normal. But if I may ask, who betrayed you? Who is making you this down and shattered?" He asked, and I couldn't help but burst out in tears again.

"It's okay, child. Just let it all out, and you'll see that you'll be relieved," he said with a smile on his face. His dark teeth could be seen, and he has lost lots of teeth too.

"I'm supposed to be at my best friend wedding, but I can't because the groom is actually my boyfriend who I've been dating for the past four years," I said as the tears flowed freely like rainwater.

"I'm a fool. Despite the fact that I've been friends with Li Xiu since high school, I failed to find out about one thing: her boyfriend. Although she always tells me about her dating an Italian guy, who would have thought she was actually dating my boyfriend, Zhang Han, behind my back? And the two of them always act like there was nothing between them whenever we're together," I explained as I wept uncontrollably with my head placed on the old man's shoulder.

"You children of nowadays don't really understand what love is. You just go into relationships without knowing the real meaning of love and then break up without experiencing love," the old man said, and his words felt like sharp pain as if my heart has been pierced with a sword. I couldn't help but weep uncontrollably. He soon dipped his hand into his bag and brought out two bottles of beer.

I guess that should help, I thought as I watched him open the bottles one by one and handed mine over to me. I gulped it down my throat like I was drinking water.

"What do you want to do now?" He asked with seriousness in his tone, his gaze fixed on me.

"I want to take revenge," the words just blurted out, and my eyes could be seen burning with hatred and a killing flame.

"What revenge can a person as weak as you possibly take?" He asked, his gaze fixed on me.

"I want to take revenge," I said again, and the man just ended up laughing out like I looked like a clown. This made me examine myself, and I searched for anything that could cause his laughter. Could it be because of my face full of injuries? I thought, but he has seen that before. What's wrong with him? I want to take revenge on those betrayals. Or does he think I'm joking? I thought with anger written all over my face.

"You don't need revenge, darling. Love is what you need," he said as he dipped his hand for the second time into his bag. I guess he was looking for something.I hoped it's something helpful again since his bag seems like a treasure box, and I believe everything that comes out of there is something good.

"Take this," he said as he handed over a small book titled "Journey Of The Demon Queen," which looked old with torn edges. This kind of infuriated me more as my face got thousands of questions written on it. What am I supposed to do with a book? Am I in the condition of someone who's interested in reading a book? I thought as I buried my head in my hands, feeling rather disappointed than happy.

"Go home and read this, then you'll understand what I'm saying," he said as I watched him struggle to get up on his feet. What am I supposed to do with a book? And it's not even a new book, but one with torn edges. Is this going to help me in getting revenge or what? I thought as I watched the old man walk away, leaving me all alone at the shore.

"Arrrrrgh...this is even more annoying than that damn Zhang Han," I yelled angrily as I took a last glance at the book before throwing it into my bag and found my way home in my car.
