5 The Worst Pool Visit Ever

"Yes, Why?" He said this calmly like it was quite an obvious fact. "We all have, Haven't you noticed?"

I quickly responded with, "NO you idiot! It's not like I can tell when I melt into the shadows!" I yelled.

"Actually," Brianan recalled, "I did remember feeling stronger in a storm once and when I told myself that 'the storm wouldn't hit us' it took a direct 90 degree turn the second I said it."

"Yeah, Actually I remember having a connection with plants ever since I was little, I mean, it was almost like I was able to talk to them," said Dykota

I looked over and Josh was taking notes on his phone.

"Honestly this is bull shit, we're stuck in a hotel and we haven't even gone swimming yet!" Maple said, getting up off the bed from where she had been sitting, "Look weren't we going swimming on a class trip today,"

"Yeah," Brianan said, "But we still need swimsuits.

"Ah, you see, that's the thing, I planned, well, just a little." I said, reaching into my jacket pocket, pulling out my swimsuit. The others were looking at me like I was weird.

"What, I have big pockets!"

"Whatever. Josh, you still have Ms. Kreives wallet?" asked Will

"Yup." said Josh, pulling the fake red-leather wallet out of his pocket.

"Sweet." said Will, grabbing one of the keys, a card

"Great, let's go get some swimsuits then." said Will, walking towards the door.

"I'm gonna come with cause I don't like being alone in hotel rooms." said I said, zipping up my jacket and tucking my hands in the pockets.

"So, what store are we going to?" asked Brianan

"Well, if we are where I think we are, there should be a Walmart Supercenter nearby..." I said, looking down as I thought about what direction we needed to go, "Ok, so, first we need to find Vine Drive then ask someone where Legacy Church is-" I was talking and walking as we headed towards the elevator at the end of the hall when Will interrupted me,

"How is knowing where a church is going to help?" asked Will

"Because it's the closest landmark to 9th street which is the street we need to follow if we want to get to the Walmart."

"Oh."

"Yeah. Then once we get to the church we need to follow 9th street south until we reach Lincoln and then we need to follow East Lincoln until 12th street then go down 12th until we can get into the parking lot and bam. Walmart Supercenter. I also think there's a Subway there in case anyone's hungry."

"How do you know all this?" asked Maple as we walked into the elevator.

"Uhhh, I did research for a book that was going to be set in Fort Collins meaning I had to study where everything was."

"Ah, I see."

"Mhm. Anyways, we should be going." I said, pushing the elevator button for the first floor. Now, I'm going to spare you the details of the walk to Walmart, but let's just say it was super long. When we finally found it, the others got their swimsuits and some of us grabbed some sandwiches from Subway. The walk back was a lot easier and quicker than getting there, I can tell you that. When we got back we took turns using the bathroom to put on our swimsuits and walked down to the pool, each of us with a towel wrapped around our bodies in some way.

We were having fun for a while but I had a strange feeling in my gut. Something was wrong. It only took me about 3 seconds to react when he heard fire crackling. The rest is just a blur but both Josh and Dykota were severely burnt and everything was all out of sorts. The weirdest part was when I put my hands over my ears. I could hear something whispering in my ear but it also sounded far away at the same time. It was telling me to get all of us to the woods. I was glad that the pool was an outdoor pool. I could get the others out quicker than if we had to run through the building. I and my friends had something like a code. I signed to Will to grab Josh while I and Maple grab Dykota and for all of them to follow me. We ran as fast as we could out through the gate, though we were slower than I would have liked. I lead us on a twisted route through the city, though I knew the entire time where I was going and where I wanted to end up. Eventually, we came across an open gate to Pine Ridge, exactly where I wanted to be. I looked back at Horsetooth Road to make sure he couldn't see us and ran through the gate, the others following me. I thought I had lost it but...I was wrong. We were stopped under a tree when I heard a sound the used to be comforting, but know, it served as a warning. The sound of fire crackling as it burns everything in its path. I stand up quickly and turn around just see it in the distance, bright orange, yellow, and blue flames dancing behind it. Firewalker.
