1 John Bunyan

To this day, I find seven abominations in my heart:

1) inclinations to disbelief

2) the sudden forgetfulness of the love and mercy that Christ manifests

3) a penchant for works of the law

4) mindlessness and coldness in prayer

5) forgetting to watch over the object of my prayer

6) the propensity that I have to whisper because I do not have more, and nevertheless the speed that I have to decry what I own

7) the inability to execute any of these commandments of God without forcefully intervening my infamies.

When I would like to do well, the evil is present in me.

These things, I see and feel them continually, they afflict and oppress me; nevertheless, the wisdom of God ordains them for my good.

1) they excite me to abhor me

2) they prevent me from trusting my heart

3) they convince me of the inadequacy of all intrinsic justice

4) They show me the need to go to Jesus

5) They urge me to pray to God

6) they show me the need where I am to watch and keep myself from the intoxication

7) They urge me to turn to God through Christ to help me and get me through this world.
