7 Jealousy

"People good things, come in small packages," Taylor said the line that Lucy wished she never heard uttered from his mouth.

"How badly does he want to be hosting a game show." Lorelai said. Lucy smiled. "You can taste it." Rory said. "I'm glad you could come out to celebrate with us Lucy." Lorelai commented.

"Thank you." she smiled.

"How's your grandpa?" she asked. Lucy nodded, "He's doing better." she shrugged.

"Let's start the bidding at 3 dollars." Taylor was overheard. "Hey!" Rory said. "Five dollars." Dean said from across the crowd.

"He's good. He's very good." Lorelai said. Lucy scoffed. She thought he was full of it herself. "Five dollars do I hear 10 dollars?" Taylor asked.

"Ten dollars."

All three girls looked to see the back of the crowd, Jess. Lucy's eyes widened.

"Ten dollars do I hear fifteen?"

"Twenty." Jess said. Did Jess just raise his own bid? Lucy thought. "Do I hear 25?"

"Thirty." Dean bid.

"Alright see, you boys don't seem to understand the way this thing works--"

"Forty dollars." Jess called.

"Fifty dollars." Dean scowled.

"Excuse me, have either of you boys noticed how tiny this thing is?" Taylor said.

"Seventy-five." Jess called.

"Uh oh..Dean's hesitating." Lorelai said in pity.

"Eighty." Dean said. Rory winced, "Dean does not have eighty dollars to pay for a basket."

"Ninety." Jess bid; knowing he couldn't top it. "You know what I don't think he'll have to." Lorelai said.

"90 dollars? Sold! To the nice young hoodlum in the back, for 90 dollars." Taylor said. "I'm trying to think of in what way this scenario could be construed as positive." Lorelai said.

"Is there one?" Lucy asked.

"Well no one's head is on fire?" Lorelai tried.

Lucy watched as they conversed and such. Dean and Jess argued again and Jess ended up taking Rory, and her basket, to go eat. Dean ended up bidding and buying Lucy's instead; seeing as no one else wanted to buy it.

She sat down with Dean. "Why did you get such a big basket if you weren't going to fill it?" Dean said.

Lucy smiled sheepishly, "I thought it would be funny to--" she stopped, "Nevermind." she shrugged before handing him the contents of a soda and a sandwich. "Sorry." she bit her lip.

"For what? The bad joke?" he asked.

"No. I'm sorry you didn't get to go on the picnic with Rory. That was a dick move on Jess' part." she sympathized. Dean nodded as he cracked open the soda can. He then looked at her. "Hey, you seem awfully close to Jess."

Lucy laughed, "Close? With Jess?" she laughed again, "I've maybe spoken to him three times in my lifetime." she ate her sandwich.

"What if you could speak to him for more than three?" he said. She coughed and swallowed her sandwich, "..Three is enough for a lifetime. I think we could both agree, Dean."

Dean shrugged, "I don't know. You guys seem to have a friendship in the making." he persuaded.

"What do you want Dean?" Lucy looked at him.

Dean took a sip of his soda before speaking, "If you just hang out with Jess some more, you know, distract him from Rory--"

"Why would I need to distract him, Dean, Rory likes you. She chose you didn't she?"

"Yeah but--"

"But nothing. You're going to mess up what you have if you keep this up, I'm not going to be apart of your scheming alright?" she got up and walked away.
