Rock

"This looks like the place." Miles says to himself as he approaches a one of the tallest buildings he's every seen. The building was made almost entirely of glass. The glass was so clean that Miles could see a reflection as clear as if he was looking at a mirror.

In the reflection, Miles can see himself: A tall, black young man with short wavy hair. He straightens his glasses and starts inside the building. The building is completely empty except for a desk with a receptionist sitting behind it.

"Hi." Miles says to the woman. "I'm here for the tournament… am I in the right building?"

"Name?" The woman says as she begins typing on her computer without looking up at the young man.

"It's Miles." He says in response, looking down at her hands in an attempt to see what she's typing.

The woman looks up at Miles. "Sign your name here." She says

"What is it? Some kind of waver?" Miles asks.

The woman nods to confirm his question.

Miles signs the paper and gives it back to the woman. She reaches down and pulls out a mechanical looking wristband.

"Put this on." She says

Miles extends his arm as she wraps the mechanical band around his wrist. It makes a hissing sound as it locks and tightens around his wrist. It's uncomfortably tight, but not to the point where it hurts.

"Could I get this loosened?" Miles asks the woman.

Ignoring his request, the woman points towards a wall the wall towards her back.

"To proceed please enter through the door behind me."

A door that was hidden among the rest of the wall begins to rise. Miles heads inside.

As he enters, the door slowly closes behind him. Once the door is shut, his wristband makes a loud beeping sound and stabs him in the wrist. Miles screams in agony as he begins to lose consciousness. The last thing he sees before he collapses, is about 3 men in black suits and smiley face masks approach his soon to be unconscious body.

Miles wakes up in a panic. He's in a large room similar to that of a high school gym but much more spacious. Miles scans the room and can see that he's in the room with at least a thousand other people of all ages and ethnicities. Looking down at his wrist, Miles remembers the wristband that the lady equipped him with at the front desk. It appears a number has appeared on the wristband, it reads "1226". He looks at the wrists of everyone around him and they all seem to have one as well.

Suddenly a screen turns on and an older man with slicked back hair appears on screen.

"Hello everyone! Welcome to Janken Calamity!" he says with a massive grin on his face. "If you can recall, you all signed up for a Rock Paper Scissors tournament in order to win the big prize of one hundred million dollars!"

The screen changes and shows a cartoon money bag and an emoticon laughing next to it. "Since you're here, you probably know the rules of the game but I'll recap for you. Rock Paper Scissors is a two player game where the two players stand face to face. The two players hold out their hands and say 'rock, paper, scissors, SHOOT!' and then throw out one of three options."

The screen then changes to show three hands. One in the shape of rock, one in the shape of paper, and one in the shape scissors.

"The three options are rock, paper, and scissors. Paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, and scissors beat paper. You will all play a best of 5 so the first one to win 3 games wins the set! Any questions?"

A hand shoots up.

"Good!" The man says enthusiastically. "Pick a partner and let the games begin!"

The kid who put his hand up, realizing he was ignored puts it back down. Everyone scrambles to find a partner. Friends, family members, and colleagues seemed to find each other quickly, while those who came alone wandered aimlessly to find a partner.

"Miles!" A familiar voice calls out to him. "Let's play!"

Miles looks up and sees one of his childhood friends, Mia.

"Mia! What a surprise I didn't expect to see you here!" He says with a smile. "Yea! Let's play."

Miles and Mia stand face to face and begin playing Rock Paper Scissors. "Rock, Paper, Scissors, SHOOT!" They say in unison.

Miles wins the first game, choosing rock. They go a second time. Miles wins again with paper.

"No fair!" Mia says with a smile on her face. "You've always been so good at this. Why did I even choose you as a partner." Her smile turns into a cutesy pout.

They go a third time and Mia wins this time with scissors. "HA!" She says as she pumps her fist. "That's one!" She points at Miles with one finger to signify the singular round she's won. Miles laughs and they begin to play another round. They play another round and Mia wins again.

It's the final round. The two are looking at each other in the eyes in an attempt to read the other. "Rock!" They say in unison.

"She's always been so impulsive, in my experience impulsive people like to choose scissors" Miles thinks to himself.

"Paper!" They both say while still fiercely looking into each other eyes.

"If that's the case then I should pick rock. Yea she's picking scissors I'm sure of it." Miles confidently thinks.

"Scissors!" They say together.

"SHOOT!" the two of them yell as they show their hands. Miles chose rock. Mia chose scissors.

"Awe shoot!" Mia says with the same pouty face as earlier. "You got me!" Her pout then turns into a smile. "Well then, good luck in the rest of the tournament Miles!" Mia extends her hand towers Miles. He noticed a beeping sound getting closer and closer as she reaches forward. The beeping intensifies.

*BOOM*

Blood splashes all over Miles's face and body. He opens his eyes to see the bloody mess of what is left of his childhood friend in front of him. Parts of her clothes and the hand with the wristband on it is all the remains.

Miles lets out a terrified scream. Suddenly, explosions can be heard all around Miles. For every pair of people, a member of that pair explodes into a mess of blood, organs, and the remains of their clothes. As people were exploding, their partners screamed and cried in horror. One of the girls next to Miles is on her knees on the floor over a puddle of guts and gore. She holds up what appears to be a wedding rings and stares at it with a lifeless look in her eyes.

"MOMMY!" Miles hears a child scream as he stands over the remains of what can be assumed to be his mother.

One after another bodies explode. For what seemed like an eternity. Eventually, the exploding stopped and one pair remained.

"Please!" one of the two girls screamed. "Please make it stop!" the two girls are on their knees crying in each other's arms on the floor. Suddenly, one of their wristbands started beeping. The beeping got faster and faster.

"WAIT! We didn't finish the game! It's only 2-1!" the wristband keeps beeping until one of the girls exploded.

Miles stands in the middle of the chaos in shock. He's surrounded by hundreds of people crying, screaming, vomiting, and other averse reactions to the mayhem around them. The laughing emoticon appears back on the screen with a counter next to it. The counter drops from one thousand five hundred all the way down to 750.

The pacing and such will likely change in the future if I decide to continue this, but I just wanted to get this idea out that I had. I want it to be similar to Death Note in terms of how intelligent the players are and how they read each other so when I rewrite some aspects, that’s the main thing I will change.
