Chapter 16

Part 16: Something's Not Right

The group heads to a hotel after reporting what happened to the authorities. Xander is out of his transformation as Jaden carries him over his shoulder. Emergency Services arrive on the scene and Evie walks up to them explaining everything that happened.

Jake covers Nora as he carries her next to Xander and Jaden. "Xander..hey I'm sorr-"

Xander looks at Jake "Don't apologize...I'm the one who should be sorry, I attacked you and almost killed you. I brought shame to my clan.." he says looking down to the ground.

Jaden looks at Xander "Nah man you didn't, you did what you thought was right."

Leslie follows behind them "So where are going? I think I saw a hotel down a few blocks from here. We can hide out there."

Evie comes jogging towards them as she catches up "So you guys were just going to leave me?!" She sighs "Anyways, I got everything with the cops. We're not getting in trouble so that's good…" she says glaring at both Jake and Xander.

Leslie nods in agreement "To be honest I'm glad Jake took care of the threat while he could, but he could've been less destructive about it."

Eventually the group gets to a hotel as they all settle in. Jaden takes Xander to his room.

A few hours after they've been at the hotel and Jaden enters Xander's room seeing him laying down on one of the beds "Alright man I got you, I'll heal you up..tell me what happened? I didn't see Jake, or whatever he was at the time move."

Xander groans and sighs with relief as he lay down. "Honestly I don't know...He was just flickering back and forth as he walked towards me..like he was blinking in and out of reality, then the next thing I knew was getting sent everywhere.."

Jaden sighs as his flames wraps around Xander's body "I'll stay here with you, but why did you attack him? I saw little subtle hints that you didn't like him. I just thought you were jealous."

Xander looks at him confused "Jealous? What do you mean by that? Why would I be jealous of Jake?"

Jaden gives him a sly smile "Well just thought you liked Evie and he was just blocking your chances with her."

Xander faces cringes " What?! I don't even see Evie like that. I see her as a respectable leader and a close friend!...Another thing..I don't have any harsh feelings towards Jake. I was suspicious, why would one of the high rankers personally train him somewhere private just because he's an attack type? It doesn't make any sense.."

Jaden laughs "Well you do give a very good explanation there! Now that you mention it, it was kinda right under our noses I just never thought someone could have more than one type before.."

Jaden and Xander turn their head to the door as they hear a knocking from behind it. Jaden opens it seeing Leslie as he waves at them "Sup'! I was going to get some food and wanted to see what y'all wanted."

Jaden and Xander say in unison "Pizza!"

He nods his head "Alright I'll see y'all later then" he says as Jaden closes the door as he heads down the hall to another door knocking on it.

"Yeah!?" He hears Evie say from behind the door.

"Hey it's me Leslie, I need to talk to you for a minute." The door opens and Evie lets Leslie in.

Evie goes and sits down on her bed "What do you need to talk about? Is it about Jake and Xander cause I really don-"

Leslie interrupts her as he closes the door behind him "Nah not about that, but listen didn't you think we took care of that a little too easily? I mean we had to fight those weird orc werewolves last time..and now we only had to fight one priest? I think we're missing something."

Evie sits there for a minute thinking. "Yeah, you're right so what do you want to do?"

Leslie gives her an excited but serious look "I think we should go back to the church. Maybe we'll find something there that we missed."

Evie stands up heading to her closet as she opens it showing a duffel bag on the floor. The unzips it as she pulls out an MP5 and a Hand Cannon Revolver. "Alright I won't be so unprepared this time. You get your stuff ready, I'll get everyone else."

Leslie shakes his head "No."

Evie stands up as she puts on a holster strap, then puts the hand cannon in it. "What do you mean no?"

Leslie sighs "Jake was just 'possessed' by someone or something plus he is also watching Nora, Xander is too injured to move on his own and even Jaden can't heal him that quickly without being tired out. So it only leaves you and me who are actually fit to do this."

Evie stares at him for a moment "Fine, but if anything goes wrong we'll call them immediately."

Leslie gives her a salute smiling "Yes ma'am!"

Evie rolls her eyes as they both leave the building heading towards the church.

They reach the building seeing that half of it is destroyed with police tape wrapped around the entrances of the building. They both pull out some flashlights. Leslie shines his on the now broken statue of Mammon.

"Wow..you know this is kinda creepy.." Leslie says as they go under the tape entering the church. Some more debris falls on the ground around them as they enter.

Evie touches Leslie's shoulder as a yellow glow wraps around him "To protect you from the debris… and whatever else is in here. You search the other side and I'll search this side of the church and look to see if you can find anything out of the ordinary."

Leslie nods as he starts to walk to the other side before Evie stops him.

"Here take this, just Incase." She hands him her Hand Cannon Revolver.

He takes and inspects it "Oh nice! I don't think I'll need it but okay"

He heads over to the other side of the church which used to be the stage that the priest used to stand on searching around as he shines his flashlight around looking at all the broken chairs and drawers. "Damn come on there has to be something in here."

He keeps searching around it until he goes behind the curtains on the stage seeing a statue that was familiar to the one outside. This time the statue has its hand out. "Hey Evie check this out."

Evie comes jogging over to see it. "Well maybe it's an offering of some kind? Do you think we may have to give it something?"

Leslie looks around the statue and finds a gold coin wedged inside the stage. "Hey little guy" he looks at Evie shining the gold coin with the flashlight. "We need to find more of these"

They continue searching the once abandoned church as they find more gold coins placing them all on the hand of Mammon but nothing happens.

"That was a waste of time." Leslie says sighing

"I mean he's just Greedy let's g-" the statue moves backwards showing an entrance that leads downward, faint chanting can be heard from below. "Huh…" Evie looks at Leslie .

Leslie puts his hand out towards the entrance "Ladies first ." He says with a nervous chuckle.
