1 Chapter 1

"Get the hell out" I nodded and scuttled off, successfully grabbing a wrapper before he threw a small throw pillow that sat at the edge of the bed at my head making me stumble. I bent to pick it with a sigh before walking out of the unnecessarily large room.

Not every woman would let their husband speak to them like that but I couldn't complain.

I didn't have a choice.

I brought myself into this.

Nothing could change it.

I'd given up five years ago.

I stumbled down the stairs of the large but empty and bland house, my heart aching as my hands touched the bare walls.

No pictures, no unnecessary large portrait, no vases, no calendars, nothing but a brown wall clock that stopped working at odd times.

"Ode oshi" I muttered to myself, referring to the beast that laid in bed upstairs.

"Agbaya buruku" I muttered and laid on the couch, resting my head on the small pillow, using the Ankara wrapper to cover myself up.

It was usually difficult for me to sleep.

Yes, insomnia, coupled with social anxiety and depression.

I didn't blame him for the way he treated me. Really, I didn't.

I never summoned to courage to face him so I let him push me around.

I left him to cheat, I let him bring his concubines in, I let him insult me.

No, I never loved him.

In all five years, I've never felt an ounce of emotion but hate and disgust for him.

You know what they say 'evil boys have the prettiest face'.

I could never disagree that my husband was extremely handsome, with an athletic build and those jawlines you only see on Instagram and He was very smart but above all, he's the biggest asshole I've ever met.

I shut my eyes and tried to sleep. Thankfully, sleep carried me in its arms as I dived into a dreamless night.

"Abeg jare" I muttered angrily as I dragged my changed from the hand of the bus conductor

"Fine girl, give me your number na!" he called and I hissed walking away.

Sadly, I woke up late today and My 'husband' forgot me at home.

"I wonder what it would have taken him to just tap me! Abi!" I questioned myself, ignoring the looks I got from passerbys.

"Bike!" I wove my hand on the road as a cyclist approached me.

"Where you dey go?" he eyed me, probably thinking I was a runs girl.

"FirstLeads Insurance, that big building behind shoprite. Do you know the place?" I asked just to be sure

"Eh I know, oya! Enter"

"How much?"

"Two hundred naira" he looked impatient but I just eyed him

"Fifty naira, if you cannot collect fifty naira, be going." I motioned to walk away when he called me back.

"Oya, no vex. Enter" i climbed unto the bike with difficulty, silently wishing that i listened to Kelvin and learned how to drive.

The breeze hit my face and not in the sexy way, I was scared that my twenty five thousand naira wig would fall off.

In less than ten minutes, the cyclist had gotten to the familiar office, I handed him a fifty naira note before running off into the building.

"Where the hell have you been?" Esther yelled at me as soon as I got to the office. I ignore her and stepped into the elevator, moving my hand back and forth to generate some form of breeze.

I pressed the elevator leading to the top, clutching my handbag and I knew my make up was ruined.

Make up that I spent half and hour on!

I heard a subtle 'ping' and the doors of the elevator opened, I head straight for his office, kicking on the door lightly.

I knew esther would be coming soon, his most preferred concubine.

I had to admit, she was beautiful with large breast.

Breasts way larger than mine but I had larger hips and ass.

"Come in" his deep voice rumbled and I almost shiverred

I pushed the door open and like he knew it was me, his eyes were on me as soon as I stepped in.

His eyes roamed my body from head to toe and I just knew he was going to insult me.

"Don't I give you enough money?" he asked from his chair where he sat like the ruler of the underworld.

"E-ehn?" he tilted his head and I wringed my arms together, the small bag on my shoulder now weight a ton.

"Why do you always have to embarrass me this way, Jade?" I shook my head, feeling very embarrassed.

There was nothing wrong with what I wore, at least I didn't think there was.

I just put on a baby pink shirt with slits on the sleeves from the shoulder to my wrist and a knee length dark blue skirt with basic baby shoes.

"Why!" he slammed his palm angrily against the table and I jumped in shock. His angry expression floored me and I could feel the tears burn around my eyes.

This wasn't the first time but I still had the same reaction.

"You're disgusting and pathetic." he rested back in his seat and I looked at my feet, trying my best not to cry.

"Go wash that...that thing off your face. I don't want to see your face for the rest of the day" he gkared at me and I nodded, walking out of the office that was as large as his bedroom.

My office was right across his, sadly.

I pushed the door open and the sign on the table greeted me 'Jadesola Olumide, PA' I huffed and pushed it off the desk. I settled down and went into the adjoining bathroom. In the mirror, there was nothing wrong with my face. My make up was as good as

I left it this morning, I was only a little sweaty.

"Asshole" I muttered and jumped when I heard a deep chuckle.

"What the hell?" I looked at the door and noticed a stranger standing there.

"You're pretty..and dirty mouthed too" he winked and I held back a smile.

"Who- who are you?" his lips rounded childish and I found myself smiling at him. He was quite handsome.

"I'm Jide...the second assistant" my smile drooped and he noticed this, retracting his hand.

"Uh..look..I'm not here to steal your pay or anything"

"Micheal gave you this job, didn't he?" I smiled bitterly and he clears his throat uncomfortably

"Yeah" I nodded before washing my hands.

Trust the asshole to do something like that.

So manner-less, wicked.

"Breathe, Jadesola" I muttered to myself and exhaled before walking back to the room where the light skinned guy was standing, completely clueless.

I smiled a little at his aura. He seemed sweet and cute...and sexy..and handsome.

"I'm not sure. Do I sit here-" he pointed at my seat

"-or here?" he pointed at the couch

"Well..I’ve got some work to do for now so..." I told him and he shrugged, plopping down on the couch. I pulled off my flats and walked to my seat. I pulled out the chair before sitting in it.
