3 What he did

Mr Rivers POV

I watched as she leaves my office and disappeared behind the door. I got up out of my chair and looked out the window and watch her leave the building and then disappear again into the bustling crowd of New York.

I'll show her. She rejected me and I am going to make sure she is rejected as well. She will come back running to me when I am done with her.

I sat back down into my leather chair. I reached for the phone on my desk. She answered on the first ring.

"Yes Mr Rivers." My secretary voice float through the phone in my ears. It was sad that I was letting her go but I have to. She has been with me for five years now. We are parting on good terms unlike the other secretaries that I had before.

"I want you to make sure every business place in New York get this. No one should employ a Harmony Green without my permission." I told her.

"I understand. Anything else Mr Rivers?" She asked.

"No that would be all Mrs Tobias." I hung up the phone before she could say anything else. She only have a week left to work for me and when that time is up I will have to find someone else to put in that position.

I put my hands behind my head and lean back into my chair. I heard the door to my office opened, and I didn't have to look up to see who it was because only one person enter my office without permission.

"I don't like that look on you face. I know that look. Now tell me whose life are you going to ruin now?" He asked knowing me well.

"Dude what did I tell you about knocking before entering my office. I could have been doing some serious business." I said ignoring his question.

He ignored me too. "So are you going to tell me whose life you have just ruined." He repeated.

"No I don't have to tell you everything and it's none of your business." I said using the voice to tell him to drop it but my best friend is an idiot so he continues to press me for an answer.

"I just hope it's doesn't involve that girl I met downstairs. I'm thinking about asking her out and I don't want you to ruin that for me." He said narrowing his eyes at me.

"I don't know who you're talking about." I replied folding my arms.

"It's her. I know it. Damn man you just ruined my chance. I can't believe I'm friends with you. You always mess up things for me dude." He said dramatically. I roll my eyes.

"What are you talking about? Who are you talking about?" I asked innocently. Of course I know who he is talking about, but I'm not going to tell him that. Oh this is going to be fun. I will make sure that little fire in her is out, and the only thing left behind is smoke to tell that there was a fire there, and when that smoke as fully evaporated she will be mine and tamed just like the other women I have known and been with.

"Stop playing dump I've know you since you were in diapers. Dude can you just let this one slip just for once do it for me. I think I have a chance with her." He looked me straight in the eyes then sigh when he realized I would never let go of it.

"What did she do?" He asked giving up on convincing me otherwise. I shrugged. "Okay then don't tell me. I would eventually find out anyway." He leaned back into the chair and watched me.

The office was silent and I could hear the beating of my heart and every breath I take. I don't mind the silence but of course he has to say something.

"Please don't do anything you're going to regret." I will regret nothing. She will pay. I offered her marriage but she will get to be my plaything instead.

"Don't worry it's nothing serious. We are just going to have a little fun together." I know I had that look in my eyes but he didn't say anything about it, but I know he sees it. He knows what I am capable of, but he knows he can't stop me from what I am about to do.

Harmony POV

I was standing in front of the mirror looking at myself. I was once again dressed for an interview. I have been turned down so many times already I should give up but I still try to get a job. I bet if I go to a supermarket I still can't get a job there. What is wrong with me.

I sighed and left my apartment heading to one more interview. I just hope the person could just look into my hopeless eyes and have a little pity on me to hire me for the job no matter how minimal is it.

Now I was waiting for my name to call to enter that office get this interview over and dread the moment I hear those words. Those words that I have been hearing for the past few days.

I'm sorry I can't hire you.

I have been living on my savings for the past few days and I am almost out. If I don't get this job I think I would have to resort to my back up plan that I have hoped I would never have to use.

I walked into the office with a little hope but it was soon crushed when the interview was over. When you do an interview you would go home and wait for the call but for me I get the message straight away.

"I can't hire you Ms Green." There's those word again. I think I have a great deal of bad luck. I know they were coming but you can't blame me for hoping.

I sat there staring waiting to see if someone was going to jump out from somewhere and tell me this was a joke but there was no such luck. This is no joke, and no one will hire me. I know you need experience but how am I going to get it when no one in this entire city will not hire me.

"Why?" The question flow out of my mouth when I opened it. This is the first time I am asking why since the first interview I have been to that ended with me hitting the boss and insulting him.

"Well..." He starts but paused and I could see him trying to think fast of a reason not to hire me. From then I conclude that this as nothing to do with my qualifications. Maybe there is something wrong with the way I dress or how I look.

"You don't have a reason do you?" I said more of a statement than a question. He was quiet and that confirmed it. No one wants to hire me and I don't know why.

And every time I try to think of a reason I draw blank. There is none or is it purely bad luck. It's not my record or anything because I am clean and if they investigate they will not find anything than a clean and glowing record.

Do they have something against someone that is not from around here? Or do they all just have something against me? I just don't know what to think about it anymore. I just I will have to give up on my dreams and go back home where no one will think twice about hiring me. But what kind of job will I get.

I'm sure it will be better than unemployed that will soon lead to me being on the street because I don't have the fines to pay for my apartment anymore.

"If you don't have a reason to not hire me then give me the job." I said cutting through the silence. He looked like he was considering my suggestion but then he sighed and looked me in the eye.

"I'm sorry Ms Green but I can't hire you." He told me again but he can't tell me why he can't hire me.

"Sure you can. Aren't you the boss?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I am, but I still can't hire you." I watch him closely when I said this.

"Yet you still can't tell me why you can't hire me. I don't think your the boss so can I please speak to the person in charge, and I will not leave until I do." I said narrowing my eyes and crossing my arms.

"I can assure you that I am the boss. It's my name on this building on the outside. I do have a reason why I cannot hire you." He said intertwining his hands and put them on his desk.

"Then tell me and I need a good reason and I will walk out of you office and leave you alone." I challenge.

I know I am pushing it, but I don't care I want to know why he doesn't want to hire me. I am tired of running around this city just to go home empty handed again and again. He owes me this reason just like every other place I have gone.

"It's complicated I don't think you would underst-" I stop him from finishing his sentence.

"Then give me the reason and explain to me. I'm sure I would understand." I said. He sighed running his hand through his hair. "You look like a good man Mr Ribbit, and I am sure you understand when I say I need this job more than anything and you are my last chance at getting a job so I don't become homeless. Don't think that I am trying to guilt trick you into giving me this job, but I need it so I don't end up on the street." I said imploring him.

"I understand Ms Green, but you have to understand and believe me when I say things are not in my hands, and I would hire you, but I just can't do it." When he said that I wanted to scream but I kept calm and looked at him. I really looked at him. He had streaks of gray hair. You could tell that he was a handsome man when he was younger but like everyone else old age took some of that away from him. He had hazel eyes thick lashes and heart shape lips.

"But you're the boss it's in your hands to hire me not someone else but you." I said.

He rubbed the back of his neck and looked at me with pity. "I'm sorry, but I don't want to lose my job and my company. I have a family to take care of. I'm sure you understand." He breath out and I was taken aback by that. Isn't he the boss? He owns this company so who could fire a man from his own company?

"What?!" I yelled. I didn't try to maintain my cool anymore. All of this just seems ridiculous. "Is this some type of joke?!" It must be so I started looking around for someone hiding in the corner or somewhere in the room.

"Calm down Ms Green and sit back down." He said startled by my outburst.

I don't realize that I was standing until he point it out. I sat down slowly not taking my eyes off of him.

"It's not my call has I said before. I was given strict order not to hire you." He tell me, I was shocked to say the least at this revelation. Who could tell a owner of their company not to hire someone? That sounds like a lie. Ad long as you're the boss of the company you're in charge of hiring specific people. That is the truth, but what he's telling me sounds like a load of shit. I must be living in a parallel universe. It must be because there is no way I could hear this in the real world. A boss of a company taking orders. But from who? Must he God.

"What?" This time it was merely a whisper as my mind started to race.

"That was my reaction at first, but I didn't questioned it, but when you walked into my office, and I read through your file I saw that nothing was wrong with you. I wanted to hire you truly but I can't disobey what they tell me to do or I could lose my job." He explains.

I am confused and a little understanding. Confused because who would give out an order to someone not to hire me, and understanding that he didn't wanted to lose his job, and it was only because of some stupid order why he didn't want to hire me.

"Who gave you that order?" That was the questions that has been in the forefront of my mind from the moment he told me.

"Sorry I can't say. I wish I could help you, but my hands are tied." He said, and I knew he was being honest. I wasn't going to make things harder for him by begging to be hired, which will cause him to lose his company because of some stupid order.

"I understand. Thank you for your time Mr Ribbit. It's been a pleasure meeting you." I said getting up. I left his office with the questions. Who? What? Why?

It must be someone with great amount of power to give out such an order and for businessmen to listen. What can they gain by doing this?

I jumped into the first taxi that I saw. It was when I closed the door it hit me and I gave the taxi driver the address to where I am stopping of next before heading home.
