Everyone has a chooses in life. One my be delt cards of hardship while other are delt more powerful cards. Beth and Sarah were both delt a low hand in life but they choose to rise above and fight. While Alex and Jack were delt a better hand they too have chosen to stay strong and lead a good fight for the new life they are looking at.
