3 Chapter 3: Awakening

MC POV

'Well Shit'

That's the last thing Edward thought before dying in a blaze of glory in his home.

But then something strange happened. Edward thought that he would lose consciousness or something, but all he could feel was darkness.

'Is this what happens when someone dies?'

Suddenly, the empty feeling disappears and is replaced by a suction that pulls his existence in.

'This doesn't feel too good!'

Then, he noticed that he couldn't speak. It was as if his body was made of the nothingness that surrounded him. A whirlpool appeared in his view and started to slurp him in.

'That looks familiar at least. Wait a sec, I never got to see who won the 2018 Champion ship! DANG IT WHY DID THAT TRUCK HAVE TO CRASH INTO MY HOUSE!'

After a few agonizing minutes of despair, Ed calmed down and reassessed his situation.

'So is something going to happen or am i just gonna float here for a wh-'

"Yugioh system has integrated with host"

"reconstructing body"

"fusing host's soul"

"initializing world search"

"world found"

"sending host to new world"

"awakening host"

--System message--

"Don't die too soon kid. I'm really bored over here."

A slowly filling progress bar inches its way through his field of view. A small *57.8%* can be seen under the bar.

'WTF?'

'Did I just hear that right?'

'I just got myself a Yugioh system! I guess that means I'm not dead yet.'

'That's a relief. I just hope that my situation isn't too bad when I wake up.'

'That system message sounds really stuck up. I don't want to meet whoever made this thing.'

After an unknown amount of time, the progress bar fills and a buzzing sound fills Edward's mind.

"awakening host"

As Ed opens his eyes, he can feel a searing pain in his head, and a blinding light enters his sight.

"Arrgh! My head!"

'Pain means I'm alive and not being dead is good. BUT WHY DOES IT HURT SO FREAKING MUCH!!!'

As Ed rolls on the ground in agony, a middle aged man in a suit of armor walks up to him while holding his helm between his left arm and chest. He has an amused look on his face as he opens his mouth.

"Haha! You shouldn't be surprised kid. Just having a headache after getting hit by the young master's carriage is good enough. You're lucky to be alive!"

"Urgh! Being alive doesn't feel so good. Who are you?"

"The name's Jose! Personal guard of the Lord's son, and defender of Westcliffe City, Ivan Stone."

At the same time, the system prompts up with multiple messages, including what it can do, and why Edward is still alive.

--System message--

This system is known as the Yugioh system

This system was designed by a being from a higher realm to alleviate his boredom by giving host, Edward Thorn, a new life with powers.

You have been transported to a world with magic powers and demonic creatures.

This system gives you powers in the form of summoning, spells, and traps, based on the cards in the yugioh game. Instead of sacrifices, to summon monsters host must use energy points that are dictated by host's level.

It costs 1 energy point to summon a level one monster, while it takes 5 energy points to use a spell or trap. Each level on a monster multiplies the necessary energy by 10.

Please do your best to thrive in your new environment. To ensure the safety of the beginning of hosts adventure, this system has decided to give host a beginner's package.

--Beginner's Package +1--

The sound from picking up pokeloot chimed as Edward sat with a confused expression on his face.

"So now what should I do?"

Although Ed meant to ask that to the system, he ended up saying it out loud to Jose, who then began a speech on the power of youth and the mysteries of life.

While tuning out Jose, The system displayed text in the bottom left corner of Ed's line of sight and began to speak.

--System message--

Host should first know that the system is compatible with mental commands and can store information.

Host should also read the guidebook that is included in the Beginner's package to find out more about his powers.

The Yugioh System is also designed to display an entity's statistics on request.

Would host like to see stats?

'Yes please Yugioh System. By the way, what should I call you, and what should you call me? Calling you the "Yugioh System" and referring to me in the third person is kind of awkward.'

--System message--

System will now speak to host in the second person.

Edward has been abbreviated to Ed.

Generating System name.

You may call me York.

'Alright, now explain what SP, WIS, and VIT do and how much 1 HP is worth.'

--System message--

1 HP is equivalent to 100 Life points in Yugioh.

VIT measures the healing ability of an individual.

1 VIT is equivalent to being able to heal 0.5 HP in 1 week.

WIS measures the amount of control you have over spell and trap placement

1 WIS allows you to cast spells and traps within a 10 meter range.

SP are points you can use to increase your statistics.

10 are received per level and 1 SP increases a stat by 0.1 or HP by 0.5.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Throughout this entire 15 minute exchange, Jose is still blabbering on about the mysteries of life, and why a young man such as Edward should find a direction in life and settle down; completely oblivious to the fact that Ed is staring intently towards the wall where the stats are being displayed.

Somewhere in a higher realm, a bored creator is giggling profusely at the situation he is watching on his TV.
