11 Chapter:11 Fourth murder

With detective Smith gone, detective Miller was assigned in charge of solving this case. People thrusted with hope, but at the same time, they resisted, because of the frown persistent on her face, which indicated something ominous was gonna happen. No direct evidence was there, nor there were any witnesses. There were murders one after the another. Bewilderment and confusion arose with each murder. As more murders occured, there was more evidence left there. Some even perceived that the killer thought of them as foolish and ignorant individual.

Fourth murder

Strict rules and regulations were spread across the town as the attempts to find the murder were futile. No one knew who, but there had been few suspects. Soon after the investigations, one had been instructed to be executed the next day while the other two were injured and wounded. On the day of execution, as they hung the suspect known as Atticus Fernsby, a letter arrived to the main cabin directed to Aaron Noah which read as follows:

“He was not innocent

He was a participant

He was a killer

He had killed my sister

Justice was served

To him which he deserved”

As soon as detective Noah read it, he ran to the gallow, only to be found to the corpse of the man as it hung with dry tears of his pleadings on his face. The scars and wounds made him guilty of being the reason for his death. As he sat there with aggression, grief, fear and hatred, detective Miller sat beside him with an inexpressible look as she comforted him, but was met with a defeated look on Noah’s face. He was discouraged, but determined to find the murderer.

Detective Miller was set to find any documents which consisted of information of the person who had lost someone dear to them, or had gone missing, while detective Noah examined the evidence.

They went to the laboratory, where he examined it and noticed small alphabets scribbled on it. They were hardly visible because of their size and because the dirt had cloaked it. As he was about to spell them, detective Miller interrupted him as she informed him about the disappointing result, but once told about letters, an eerie smile crept onto over her face, as if she was expecting it, but it was all put down when Noah started to spell those words out:

M A

Y A

G

The bewilderment was visible in their eyes as they tried to crack the code, but suddenly, the lights in the room went out, and silence engulfed the room as they heard shuffling and someone’s footsteps. When the lights went back on, they saw there hands held together as fear was visible in their eyes. Once on their right mind set, they proceeded towards a small letter which had been placed on the desk neatly, as it read the following:

“First one to care

First one to bear

The sorrow the pain

But your effort will go in vain”

Their breath hitched as they read it. Their heart pounded in their chest afraid of who was behind them.

Who was the killer?
