124 Chapter 21: trial of intelect

A golden light bathed the chamber in its nearly incomprehensible glamour as it washed over, under, and around everything in the chamber, including its occupants.

Markus could feel the light wash over him, slit around him, and most of all flow into him, he felt as if something uncomfortable was entering him, peering through the thin, hollow veil that he calls himself and looking into the real "him". More than that the light was trying to for a lack of better words "brand" him with its searing heat as proof of his agreement to honor the rules of the test.

The "heat" didn't feel painful or incite any physical reaction out of Markus for that matter outside of making his eyes feel like they've been stabbed with a molten iron rod but Markus was accustomed to pain so he didn't make a big deal out of it, the "heat" was more of a spiritual "heat" that burned the proof of a covenant into his very being.
