Chapter 46 Astonishment All Around

Bai Shanshan had used Yan Wen's audition to get Jiang Lingyun into the reality show and had slandered her in front of assistant director Jason, allowing her to be a rejected actress. Using those dirty tactics... When Yan Wen returned home, she would never have a chance to make a comeback.

If Yan Wen had not been forewarned, she would have been taken entirely by surprise.

Unlike Bai Shanshan's efforts, Jiang Lingyun's were barely up to scratch. But Yan Wen was an industry veteran and was no pushover.

If she was not fully confident, she would not have challenged Jason and Bai Shanshan today. She was the only one who could make the directorial team want Asian actresses to work with them!

"Yan Wen, are you still fighting about this?" Bai Zhexuan knitted his brows at Yan Wen as if he did not recognize her. The old Yan Wen had always followed his lead and his instructions. She was so different now!

"Yes. As long as Jason agrees to let you participate, what reason do I have to say no? You're Grand's artiste and it would not be bad for the company."

"Shanshan!" Jiang Lingyun fidgeted. If she appeared in the same frame as Yan Wen, she was likely to be targeted.

"That's settled. The filming schedule is very tight, so if Jason hasn't changed his mind by eight a.m. tomorrow, I'll get someone to send you back." Bai Shanshan said steadily. Jason was one to bear a grudge, and as Yan Wen embarrassed him in front of so many people, she was confident that he would try and stop her from acting.

When that happened, it would no longer be their problem.

"These are your words." Yan Wen got up and left the meeting room.

.....

Once the door closed behind them, Jiang Lingyun clutched frantically at Bai Zhexuan, "What now? If Jason finds out that we made everything up, what will—"

"Silence!" Before Bai Zhexuan could say anything, Bai Shanshan stopped her. "Do you think this is your home? That you can say anything you want! Zhexuan, get her out of here."

"Yes, Shanshan." Bai Zhexuan did not dare disobey his sister and hurriedly dragged Jiang Lingyun away.

In the meeting room, Bai Shanshan's gaze became venomous. She called up the hotel, intending to send the cameraman over to meet Yan Wen. Once the scandal hit, Yan Wen would have to bow her head.

But the hotel employee told her that Yan Wen had never checked-in! The room had been empty since last night.

"What?" Bai Shanshan hung up and sent someone to find out where Yan Wen was staying. She had to find out where she was, even if she had to have her followed.

Things were not moving as smoothly as she planned. Yan Wen was not that easy to deal with.

.....

In the estate house.

Yan Wen looked at the invitation that Jiang Sui-an was holding out to her and smiled. "Have I made you worry again?"

"It's not much. Just bringing next week's plans forward." His profile, as he looked away to the side, was exquisite.

This Dahua branch had organized a movie exhibition, and the industry's top movie stars, directors, and screenwriters were going to be present. Artistes under Bai Shanshan's jurisdiction were not entitled to participate, so Yan Wen did not need to worry that her marriage to Jiang Sui-an would be publicized.

"You're always so considerate towards me," she said as she moved forward to hug him. Laying her head on his shoulder, Yan Wen found herself relaxed.

Jiang Sui-an's mouth turned upward and he lifted Yan Wen's chin up to look at her with soulful eyes. His eyes rested on her lips and he bent towards her.

A bit of invasion and possession, the two became lost in the sweet kiss.

Yan Wen was overwhelmed when Jiang Sui-an let her go. He took a deep breath and murmured to her hoarsely, "If you weren't busy tonight, I wouldn't let you off so easily."

"Then I have to thank you, Mr. Jiang, for showing mercy to me..." Yan Wen smiled sweetly and let her hands fall to her sides.

She enjoyed her interactions with him. They were intimate, yet mutually respectful and supportive. This was the ideal marriage. No one possessed the other while still being their most important person in the world. Besides Jiang Sui-an, no one would be able to give her such happiness.

"I will have someone send you there. I won't appear tonight. You can settle the matter yourself."

If Jiang Sui-an was in attendance, he would be the center of attention. As it stood, he only wanted to give Yan Wen a fighting chance against Jiang Lingyun, and not redirect the whole matter. If he really wanted to, he would just need to say a word and the directorial team would not dare to cut Yan Wen out.

But Yan Wen would not be happy if she had not created her own opportunities.

"Alright."

She replied with a light kiss, her eyes full of happiness. This man understood her heart and knew what she wanted.

That evening, a luxury car entered the parking lot.

Surrounded by bodyguards, Yan Wen was directed to the exhibition hall.

Yan Wen was lightly made up and wore a silver-gray evening gown that Jiang Sui-an had prepared for her. The refined design hugged her curves perfectly and, in combination with her hair accessory and necklace, she looked like a fairy descending from the clouds. Her calm and peaceful countenance attracted everybody's admiring gaze but she did not shy away from it.

"An Asian actress?"

"She looks so familiar, I'm sure I've seen her before! But who..."

Yan Wen's entrance had attracted the attention of many. After all, she was the best actress grand slam Winner who had previously graced the red carpets of international award shows and fashion weeks. The stage presence that she naturally exuded could not be matched, but she had retired for a few years and new faces had shown up. Her face had become obscured by a layer of mysterious color.

As everybody speculated, a voice rang out from the crowd.

"Yan Wen!"

She turned to see who it was, and Narsha burst through the crowd and flung her arms around her delightedly. "I didn't think I'd see you here! We haven't met in three years! How are you? I'm good. So sorry for showing up late."

Yan Wen's polite reply was conveyed with a smile. She had always been grateful for Narsha's care and help. She was only where she was today thanks in large part to those films. Her path was made up of many different pieces; without one piece, the end result would be different.

When they saw their familiarity and when Narsha called out Yan Wen's name, a number of people remembered that screen queen from before.

"She's the Chinese actress that Narsha worked with!"

"I remember that the big budget movie she was invited to star in could take ten years to film."

"Then she went back to retire. It's such a surprise to see her here today. Is she planning a comeback?"

The guests present were very curious about Yan Wen, but everyone kept their polite distance and did not disturb Yan Wen's conversation with Narsha. Except for one person, assistant director Jason, the one who had believed Bai Shanshan's words and mistaken Yan Wen.
