Chapter 2

"The new Guardians of Oragon have been chosen! " Everett shouts for all to hear, everyone opening their eyes and clapping their hands to those who have been chosen to be the newly appointed Guardians.

Laurance looked to his side to see Elise's chest glowing faintly as well, of course, he expected that, but when he looked around to looked at the other chosen guardians, he had to do a double take when he sees a character who was never meant to be chosen to begin with.

Her orange hair was tied into two buns, she had peach skin and dark cyan eyes, her name was Amanda, Laurance had written her as a side character who decided to become a knight after the star picking ceremony, wanting to aide the guardians in missions and protect the kingdom.

So why was her chest glowing? She was never meant to be chosen to begin with, this caused Laurance to feel doubt within himself, he wrote the book, he didn't miss anything else that was apart of the story.

Laurance narrowed his eyes at her, before looking to Elise who was tapping him on his shoulder, gesturing to the stage.

Laurance had stolen one last glance to Amanda before making his way to the stage, the cheers had erupted when they began their ascent up the stage, all of their eyes were on the newly appointed guardians.

All of them lined up on the stage and as if they were in synch, they all bowed to the crowd.

After the star picking ceremony, there is an after ceremony called the 'Evening Feast' where all the families who participated gather and celebrate the newly appointed guardians, it may also serve as a farewell to the families of those who were chosen, because on the next day, they are to be transferred to a new building where they will live in from now on and train.

This structure is located quite far and is near the Main Palace where the King lives.

"I'm so proud of my baby! " a shrill voice cried out, and Laurance was tackled into a hug, his Mother hugging him as she cries profusely, years streaming down her cheeks and onto Laurance's clothing.

"Sweetheart, you'll suffocate the poor boy. " A rough hand makes in contact with Laurance's shoulder and gently separates the Son and Mother from each other.

Laurance smiles and looks up to his Father, "You did such a good job, even if you weren't chosen, we are just happy you were given the opportunity to be chosen. " His Father said, running a hand through Laurance's soft brown hair.

"You're going to do great. " His older brother said with a muffled voice, already having a meat skewer in his mouth, which caused Laurance to laugh, despite the fact that these people in front of him were apart of a fictional world, he still felt he had a connection with them even in a different universe.

"I won't let you all down! I'm going to train the hardest and come up on top! " Laurance proclaimed, determined, ever since he's been reincarnated into his book, he's been living his life the way he wants despite being sick, he was able to overcome that obstacle by eating plenty of healthy food, exercising, and getting the amount of sleep he needed.

"Even without all that, we just want you to be safe and alive... " His Father said with a sad smile, still not adamant about letting what was his once sickly little boy, go into a dangerous world full of battles.

Laurance's eyes teared up as he attacked his Father into a hug.

".. Elise.. " She moved her head away from the heartwarming scene and looked down to her younger siblings that clings onto her ceremonial outfit, "What will happen to us when you go away? " Her younger brother asked in worry, despite everyone having a good time and celebrating around them, the CromWell family could only feel a deep sadness as the eldest daughter prepares to leave.

"Everything will be alright, I've already prepared everything once I leave, I already have you all entrusted into Nanny Selma's care when I'm gone, and I'll work hard to send money to her so all of you are well taken care of. I'll even visit when they let me. " Elise said, stroking the heads of her little siblings heads.

As mentioned, Elise is the eldest daughter of the CromWell family and the bread winner of the family, her Father used to be a knight that fought for the Kingdom, but because of a severe injury, he was forced to retire, so Elise quit schooling and took on many part time jobs to keep her family sustained.

"I'm sorry my Daughter, this Father of yours isn't able to help this family in its time of need. " Her Father approached with the sound of his crutches making tapping noises against the concrete floor, She slowly approached him to slowly sit him down on a nearby chair and table, all of her siblings gathering and sitting themselves down, "There's no need for that, I chose this path and I will continue to walk down it. But this time our family will no longer suffer with me as a guardian. " She reassured her Father as she put down a plate of food in front of him, tears brimming in her Father's eyes as he looks up at his daughter, "... Your Mother would be so proud of you.. " He said with a quiver in his voice.

Elise could only remain silent as she proceeded to put food in her siblings' plates, making sure it was food they can eat.

"After eating you can eat dessert, I saw a table full of cakes. " Elise smiled as she helped her younger sister cut up her food, "Okay! " her siblings said in unison.

Tonight, the families of the participants and chosen guardians celebrate the new era that they are entering along with the new guardians, the promise that the heavenly beings had declared, that they send their blessings and miracles to the most capable warriors to protect them.

May the gods' blessings be with them...
