A helping hand

He was cursing not having thought of the consequences beforehand. The way back to town was no joke after the fight. In a mere hour since they came here János had eradicated two camps close to each other, killing 55 Murlocs as Alexis had counted. But in the process spent all his energy. He was sure that even one more spell from him would leave him drained and he'd lose consciousness.

At least that was what Alexis had told him after the fight. In her eyes it went all fine and he even surprised her when he had casted magic.

As he learned on their way back, that seemed to have happened when he was brought to the inn. Mia had cast her healing magic on him and got it reflected. In the process of repeating it seemed he had experienced a mana down, reaching zero mana and passing out. Only when she used a high rank spell did it break his reflection and healed him.

The reflection was consequently draining mana from him, be it as minute as it may. His show minutes prior proved that right, though the drain seemed so low he didn't notice it first.

Alexis took no measures to help him in his deranged state, so the way back was progressing slowly. Speaking of state, the training bore fruits as the notifications he received in between were indicating.

Staggering through the forest following Alexis he instantly shouted 'status' in his mind, hoping at least this function of the system would work. The next moment a new screen opened up.

While he was studying this newly available screen he had halted. As Alexis couldn't see the notifications and windows she was clearly irritated seeing J. standing still and staring into empty air.

"What is it now boy? Fried your brain with that lightning earlier?" A.

"Say, is there something like a status or strength rating for every person? Like some numerical values?" J.

"Well, yeah. Though the ranking of Adventurers and soldiers works on their efforts and achievements, the individual power and attributes, as well as normal skills are recorded and noted.

Only at each rank up the measures are taken anew, so those tags not always state their actual strength...

How come you ask now?" A.

"...Just wondering about it... Can you tell me the basic values? What about your own?" J.

Ceasing her eyebrows she threw him a doubtful glance. He was worried to have overstepped a boundary and lifted his hands for a sorry gesture. Before he could excuse himself Alexis answered him.

"The basic status depends on the race and base level. Normally every humanoid starts with a average value at 5 when they register. The Job they acquire slightly tops those values but doesn't redistribute already received status points.

Registration for combat service is only possible once you reach a base level of 10. That can be measured in Guilds and most garrisons and even some churches.

Your level should be at least this high. Given your last performance may be even higher. Thats why I wanted to check on you.

...As for my Status, ...may be I'll tell you in the future. Women need their secrets..." A.

J. was baffled at the narration. The ratings he just heard would mean he's at least ten times a normal human. Or humanoid. If those ratings reflected actual strength and would get even boosted by him getting a so called job he would be over powered.

But that would have to wait for a later date. He had heard the mention of those jobs in combination with a crystal, which was apparently not available to him. So those jobs had to be looked upon when the chance arises.

Moving on while discussing his mistakes in the last battle, they arrived after more than an hour.

The huge conglomeration of Murlocs was definitely not normal as Alexis stated. Entering Gold Creek, they directly went to the garrison to report. It was a matter of 15 minutes as any checkup was unnecessary as soon as Alexis was involved.

After being thanked and receiving a small pouch with coins they left for their inn.

As Mia saw J. her eyes went wide, followed by a scornful look. It couldn't be helped as the clothes she provided where blood soaked after not even a whole day. Scoffing she sent him upstairs to clean himself and change his attire.

What he found lying in the exact same place as last time, was a new set of clothes. This time the pants were black and made of some thin leather. A black vest was also included. It looked just like the attire of a waiter...

Only then did he remember. This evening would be his first time serving in the inn for paying off Mia.

Next to the table with the clothes stood a bucket full of water. A Sponge and a towel had be put next to it.

At this moment he realized Mia had had played as they came back. She had well known he would be sweaty and dirty after the training. That's why she had arranged everything beforehand.

..May be him being all bloody with chunks of burned flesh and the stink of rotten fish sticking to him was not so expected.

As he took off his new equipment he had the first real chance to inspect it, what he directly did.

'Well, better than nothing' he thought to himself.

Getting rid of the already dried blood was no easy job, but he managed. After donning his new attire he folded his old clothes together after giving them a quick wash in the bucked.

Taking the bucket with him he went downstairs where the smell of a hearty stew already greeted him. Mia led him behind the counter and through the kitchen to toss the dirty water in the drain. When he would be working here in the evenings, this was obviously on of his jobs.

As she narrated to him what his further tasks would for the coming evenings, he learned that Mia was the landlady of this inn. The cooking was done by a villager named Marcus whose family had always lived in Gold Creek. His daughter worked as a waitress and was the one who served them this morning.

For tonight he would work together with her in the dining hall as the week was ending and quite some customers were to be expected.

After Mia had shown him everything he had to know from the inn they took a hearty diner. The stew he had already smelled was made of local boars and dark ale. The few carrots and onions in the sauce countered the unique taste of the mead well. Fresh bread was also included in the meal.

This was what they would have to serve in the dozens tonight.

As the night went on an the first customers that had been served were already leaving, a new batch arrived. The shift at the garrison had ended and the new arrivals were mostly soldiers with a few adventurers in between.

J. eyes stayed at the entrance as someone he knew entered. The patrol which rescued him had entered the Inn. Of course his eyes were latched on the two girls of the group. And one of those was also looking at him. Once he noticed it he winked them over.

"Hey guys, I have a nice table for you over there. As I stated this morning, first round is on me! Follow me..." J.

After greeting them and bringing them to their table he took their orders and went back to work. As he arrived back with the six mugs of ale they introduced themselves. Not that it was necessary for him as he had already analyzed them, like every person that entered the Inn this evening.

The patrol consisted of the guard-leader Raynard, the blonde guy. He was one of the two higher leveled individuals in the group and highest at that. The level 15 man was quite humorous and a nice guy. While by far the oldest in their party he had befriended them all.

The twins Marlow and Mennard were less talk active but gave their comments here and there. Both were level 10 and, as J. noticed , had both an eye on Lourna.

The woman herself had seemingly never noticed, though she was one of the two scouts in this group. 'Not the best perception for the job.' were J. only thoughts on the equally level 10 Lourna.

The second scout was the lanky Arden. He gave his job all honor as he talked only when necessary and blend in the shadow of his group. Though he wasn't unfriendly and even the one to wink J. over to talk with them when he was free.

The only one of interest was the latest addition to the group.

Not only was she cute and higher level than most of the partol, she even had a rare skill. At least that's what he suspected. The skill was written in blue letters, contrary to most of the other skills he had been shown by the system until now.

As the day finally came to a close and the last guests left the inn, J. was seriously spent. The day had taken its toll on him with the training and a long shift in the Inn.

But he had become friends with all of his saviors and even got to know a lot of villagers. He even got some tip here and there.

The best thing apart of his level up while hunting was that he had managed to level up [Analyze]. This skill was also such an exception from the monotonous white skills he always gets shown, being written in purple. At the later evening he had somehow managed to break the treshold for the skill. Further functions had to be assessed later as he had to clean the tables and was just then finishing up with the tables.
