12 Mystery Box

'Where am I?' Julius looked around but all he could see was darkness. He couldn't even see his own hands or feel them for that matter. He tried to move but soon realized that he didn't have control over his body at all.

"Julius, don't leave me." suddenly he hears a woman's voice. Julius looked around but everything still remained dark. No sign of anybody else.

"Julius come back to me!" this time the voice felt a lot closer. But there was still no sign of anybody.

"COME BACK!" the woman's voice echoed in the darkness causing everything to tremble. Cracks started appearing and light pour down on the pitch black world. The trembling increases causing Julius to fall.

Thud!

"Hey kid! You can't just jump off the bed like that!" a mans voice suddenly enter Julius' ears.

Julius opened his eyes and in front of him was an old man's face, staring at him with inquisitive eyes. Causing him to scramble back and push himself against a wall.

"Damn kid I know I'm ugly but you don't have to be so obvious about it." the old man said as he stood up and walked away.

Julius finally managed to calm down and observe his surroundings. It seems like he's in a wooden room probably the old man's. There wasn't much in the room except the wooden bed that he was sleeping on and a small chair in the corner.

He tried to get up, but he couldn't.

"Don't even try, it's already a miracle you're able to wake up in your condition." Julius looked words the doorway and saw the old man again. The old man was holding a cup in his hand. "Now, Let's get you back on the bed."

Julius felt a soft force lift him up and gently put him on the bed.

"Thanks," Julius said with some difficulty. Even though he didn't know what's happening, he knew the old man probably saved him.

"Here, drink this and heal up," the man said as the cup floated towards Julius' mouth. He opened his mouth and a warm liquid flowed down his throat. Julius felt refreshed and his body felt a lot better.

When Julius looked towards the doorway the old man wasn't there anymore. The room turned silent with only the occasional sound of the wind blowing.

When Julius checked his status, he was quite surprised by what he was seeing. Aside from the new tab, there were some significant changes to his status menu.

'System, why am I in the 2nd stage?' Julius asked.

'Because you cultivated, host.' The emotionless voice replied.

If he had the ability, Julius would just strangle this demon to death. He really wonders if the system was a gift or a curse sometimes.

'You know what, as long as I'm improving, these data don't mean squat.' With that Julius decided to check out the Inventory.

A new screen appears in front of him and he could see 20 small squares with only one of them being occupied. It looked just like a game inventory, except the one in front of Julius is very much real.

Julius clicked on the occupied space and a small notification appeared.

'Do you want to open the Mystery Box?'

'Open' Julius enthusiastically said.

A black box appears in front of him and it started spinning.

Boom!

'Emperor Sword received'

'A curse received'

Three notifications came one after the other. At first, Julius felt really lucky until he heard the third notification. He felt cheated. Even though he didn't know what curse it was, the sound of curse didn't sit well with him. 'Isn't this a reward for my achievements?! Why the hell is there a curse.'

'It is a reward and it is also a mystery box. As its name implies he mystery box is a total mystery. It can be a good mystery or a bad mystery.' The emotionless voice replied.

Sigh

'Just show me this god damned curse'
