1 Joining Orion

Doryu woke up depressed that he still needed ten more pounds to buy the newest and most popular fully immersive virtual reality game that had just been released.

What would have normally made it worse, actually made it better. While getting out of bed, he tripped over and found his eyes in line with a ten pound note forgotten under his cabinet.

"Sweet, I've got enough now."

Doryu threw on the first clothes he found and dashed out of his house towards the nearest shop.

Once he arrived, he ran straight towards the virtual reality section and picked up a copy of 'Orion'. It was a fully immersive, lifelike fantasy mmorpg where all of the npcs had AI that allowed them to have actual personalities and opinions. The game could change based on all of the player's interactions with the world. It had not been out for long, but it had already become the most popular game ever made.

He paid for the game and ran straight back home and put the disc into his full body capsule. He got inside of it and instantly was taken into a completely different world than his own.

It was only the character customisation screen, but it felt so real. There were two options for making the character, there was the custom option and the randomisation option.

Just for fun, Doryu tried out the random option. The result was very good as what came out was a six foot tall, attractive, golden haired man with a black tattoo line going from beneath his eyelids to his feet.

Doryu decided to stick with this character and chose his name to be his real one.

He found himself in a starting area with a lot of other players. Before he did the tutorial, he checked his status.

Name: Doryu

Level: 0 (0/100)

Class: None

Skills: None

Strength: 10

Magic: 10

Mana: 10

Mana Recovery: 10

"Seems like my stats are completely normal which is neither good nor bad. Guess I should do the tutorial now."

Doryu walked towards the area with a bunch of scarecrows and an instructor., "I'm here to do the tutorial."

The instructor responded, "All you need to do is deal 1000 damage to this scarecrow with a wooden sword."

Quest: Destroy scarecrow. Rewards: 100 XP, Skill: Slash, Completion of tutorial.

Doryu picked up a wooden sword and faced the scarecrow, "Sounds easy enough."

Quest accepted: Destroy scarecrow.

His attacks would do ten damage each to the scarecrow so in total it would take one hundred attacks.

He swung his sword and hit the scarecrow. Above the scarecrow's head, the health bar went down by twenty points instead of ten.

The instructor spoke to Doryu, "It looks like you got a critical hit."

"That means the attack did double damage right?"

"That's exactly what it means. There is a one in twenty chance that a critical hit will occur which means you are very lucky to get one on your first attack."

Doryu went back to attacking the scarecrow and got three more critical hits in a row.

The instructor looked very surprised, "That is incredibly lucky to get four critical hits in a row."

The next forty six attacks were all critical hits as well which should be impossible due to the 1/20 chance for one to occur. This meant that instead of one hundred attacks, it only took fifty to get the one thousand attack damage.

Quest completed: Destroy scarecrow.

Level up.

Skill: Slash. Obtained.

"Let me check my status."

The instructor spoke to Doryu, "You have completed the tutorial, it was in a very interesting manner and it was fun to watch, so as an extra reward I will give you my sword."

Instructor's Sword obtained.

Instructor's sword:

10 damage.

Skills involving swords have a 10% chance to use no mana.

"This sword is pretty good, thanks."

"No problem, would you like to leave the tutorial?"

"I will, but I have a few questions first."

"Go ahead."

"What is the best way to get stronger?"

"If you challenge dungeons and kill monsters, you will gain the most XP and will have the fastest growth. Completing certain quests can also grant a lot of XP and other rewards which can increase your strength."

"Have you got a recommendation on what to do as soon as I leave the tutorial?"

"I think you should go to the easiest dungeons and increase your level a bit before you try and take on some quests.

"Thank you very much, I have no more questions and would like to finish the tutorial."

"As you wish. Walk through that door to my right and you will be in the beginners village."

Doryu walked through the door and with less than a millisecond delay, he was in a bustling village of not only players but also npcs.

They were trading items and both posting and taking quests.

There were multiple exits from the village, some led to villages, towns and kingdoms. Others led to incredibly large areas filled with monsters. Two of them led to dungeons of very low difficulty which was where Doryu planned to go first.

He walked down one of the exits towards a dungeon called 'The Spider's Nest'. It was the easiest dungeon in the game and even for level 1's without a party it was relatively easy to conquer.
