9 Training

Training Island, training day, 4:30 am

"Awake!"

A very energetic scream arose from Muten Rōshi's lungs, as the alarm clock strapped over Krillin's head chimed with characteristic annoyance. The monk woke up in a daze and turned his sleepy eyes to the alarm clock in question. "Really? It's 4:30 in the morning".

"Are you going to be a baby about it, or are you going to train?" Rōshi scolded him, going into soft drill sergeant mode. "Get dressed while I go to wake up the others!"

Krillin slowly got up from the bed and made an effort to wake up as he dressed. Roshi meanwhile woke up Inosuke and Goku who were sleeping in the living room on their futon.

The two slowly woke up from their slumber and began to roll out of their beds. Hearing Roshi and realizing that training begins today, they got up quickly.

Then she woke up Chi-Chi who was sleeping with Launch, who seems to have sneezed while she was sleeping, but Chi-Chi woke up easily when Roshi called her and thus they managed to avoid danger and went outside.

"Well!" He yelled the Kame-Sennin sternly. "Without further delay, you will now begin your education at Turtle Martial Arts School. Before we begin, let me say a few words about martial arts. "

The hermit cleared his throat. "One does not study martial arts to merely win fights or woo Krillin girls," Rōshi intoned, emphasizing Krillin's name, causing the monk to stiffen and Chi-Chi tried to hide his nervousness upon hearing that. Inosuke and Goku remained attentive. "You master those arts for your own mental and bodily health, for the ability to live life to the fullest."

"But!" Rōshi's tone became more serious now. "If there is someone who seeks to harm or terrorize you or any other decent people with undeserving power, you must defeat those enemies with one swift strike! You understand?"

They all nodded. "I will defeat them all," Inosuke said confidently. While Goku was thinking about who he wants to beat in the future.

"Stop talking! Let the training begin! To start, let's do a light jog. Try to keep up! "

The four of them followed the old master, keeping pace with relative ease. Krillin began to think that the stories about Rōshi's training regimen were exaggerated, while Inosuke, Goku, and Chi-Chi followed him, their minds busy to see what the hermit would get up from up his sleeve. The group finally reached a building labeled "MILK" with a silhouette of a cow diving above it. Behind the garage door on the side of the building was a cowboy pulling out three cartons of milk.

"Stop!" Rōshi yelled, extending his cane arm, signaling the next trio to stop. "Good morning sir. I am Kame-Sennin. Did I call yesterday to volunteer? "

"Oh yes of course!" the cow man replied with glee. "Thank you very much for the help! The boxes are ready to be delivered. Here is the delivery route".

The Kame-Sennin inspected the paper the cowboy handed him and nodded.

"Inosuke and Goku use this" he said as he gave them a turtle shell like the one he normally wears.

"You two must wear this on your back while doing the training, I saw your fights so I know if you don't use this it would be too easy, it's a 40 kilo turtle shell and you are not allowed to kill the animals that attack you while doing the training."

Hearing that, Krillin and Chi-Chi widened their eyes surprised by the extra weight that Inosuke and Goku would have to carry while doing the same training.

Inosuke and Goku upon hearing that accepted it happy to have more difficulty in training. They put them on and already felt how difficult it would be to move with so much extra weight. "Hahaha, the great Inozuke Hashibara never turns down a challenge" he said while jumping with the shell.

"Great, this will make me stronger" Goku said with a smile.

"Alright, each of you take a box! We are delivering milk! "

Inosuke and Goku did it without asking anything, seeing them Chi-Chi did too and Krillin was dumbfounded to see that this was on the to-do list. "Is this what we're doing? Milk delivery ?!"

"Yes!" Rōshi answered flatly. "It will be a good exercise for the four of us."

"Waiting! Are you going on foot? " the cow man stammered, waiting for the group to use the helicopter on the other side of the building.

"Of course! It would be lousy training if they used a helicopter! Now, we will make our delivery to the first house 2 kilometers from here… Jumping! "

The Kame-Sennins begin to jog down the road, singing a simple, improvised tune to the rhythm of their jumps, and while their students weren't singing, they kept pace by jumping along the 2-kilometer stretch until the first installment, their shipment. Slight clink in the boxes they carried. By the time the group reached their first stop, everyone was emaciated and Rōshi wasn't out of breath at all. Krillin exasperatedly took the empty milk bottle from the box labeled at his stop and deposited a new bottle.

"Good," Rōshi declared, seeing that Krillin had completed the first stop of his quota today. "Now, for the next kilometer, we will zigzag down this road. Better keep up or the milk will turn sour. "

The students proceeded to follow Rōshi's instructions to follow the path in a zig-zag formation, trying to keep up. When they reached the top, Rōshi was casually smoking a pipe and saw them climb the last few steps, looking very tired. "I am surprised that they can keep up with their companions even with the shells, I did well to give it to them, probably if I did not this would not be a training for both of them" Roshi said to Inosuke and Goku.

Goku just smiles defiantly at that.

"Of course, we can't afford to stay last even if we carry extra weight," Inosuke said confidently.

Another monk, much older and not from the same temple as Krillin, came out to greet Muten Rōshi's errand students.

"Wow, thank you very much!" the monk spoke cautiously, pleased to see the venerable Muten Rōshi training new students with his methods. "It is good to see you in good health, Muten Rōshi, and training these four students as well. It's certainly been a while. "

"Actually, it's been a while, and thank you for noticing my health." Rōshi replied, adopting a disguise of formality with the monk.

Chi-Chi decided to put her hands together and bow gently to introduce herself. "Good morning sir. My name is Chi-Chi. " He said he with some shyness.

Inosuke, Goku, and Krillin simply remained silent.

"Now tell me how is your training going?"

"Well, they just started today, but I can see that these four have potential. If they continue their training diligently, they can enter the tournament within 8 months. "

"You mean the Tenka'ichi budōkai, huh?" The older monk asked, with a hint of interest.

"Expect!" Krillin spoke. "The budōkai Tenka'ichi?! The strongest under the skies!"

"What's that?" Inosuke and Goku asked simultaneously, turning to Krillin curiously.

"It's a tournament that brings together the strongest martial artists from around the world to decide who is the strongest under the heavens!" Krillin responded with a radiant emotion on his face and voice.

"Whoa!" Inosuke perked up hearing for the first time about this amazing sounding competition. "Then, I will show the world that I am the strongest" He said already eager to start.

"I will be the strongest" said Goku upon hearing his brother.

"No, it will be me" Inosuke replied as they seemed to want to fight to prove who is better.

"You have a couple of very animated students" said the monk with a smile.

"If they are the strongest of the four" he said with a friendly smile.

"If you continue with the training without hesitation, then yes," replied the hermit, seeing the stars in the eyes of three of his four students. "However, your goal is not to target the title alone. Life is not that easy. I just thought that if you had a goal to get in first, it would push you to try harder in training. But before I insist on those things, we still have deliveries to do! "

The group continued to follow their delivery route with Rōshi leading the way to keep up. As if the delivery route hadn't gotten more arduous, their travels took them through a changing desert, a very fast river, and the territory of several raging dinosaurs. Finally, when they finished their deliveries, everyone except Kame-Sennin was lying on their back, gasping for air and sweating bullets.

"Eight months ... of this ?!" Chi-Chi spoke between gasps. "I feel like I'm in an oven!" she said as he forgot his shyness from exhaustion.

"It will get easier as you keep doing it," Rōshi consoled, seeing his students try to recover. "That's it for the morning routine. Now for the morning routine! "

"What?!" Goku yelled, as he tried to get up. "What about breakfast ?!"

"That will come right after the morning routine," Rōshi replied. "Speaking of which, today you will be plowing these fields."

Hearing that Inosuke and Goku got a bit sad but they continued with the training.

The hermit then approached the old woman who was busy tilling her fields and began to speak. Rōshi then gestured at the four of them as he spoke, probably indicating that her students would take over the task of plowing the fields, and the woman removed her gloves, looking visibly pleased and she proceeded to head to a nearby shed…

Muten Rōshi returned to the trio of students. "Alright, you'll be plowing these fields, and when you're done, we'll finally have breakfast. So don't delay! "

"Milk delivery man and farmer I never trained like this when I was in the temple" said Krillin.

"You have to plow these fields with your bare hands! This will help you build strength everywhere, especially in your arms and hands. "

Krillin started to stutter in shock at this revelation, while Goku simply looked at his hands, wondering how much field he could plow this way. While Inosuke began to quickly plow with his hands very quickly seeing that Goku followed him and then Krillin, resigned Chi-Chi went as well.

"Remember!" Rōshi yelled, seeing his current rhythm. "The later, the later you will have breakfast!"

This immediately spurred all four of them to action, tripling their initial speed. The ordeal was a strain on the skin, as dirt, rocks, and grass roots were slightly lacerated in his hands, and the muscles in his fingers tensed as they forcibly dug into the dirt, loosening it.

An hour had passed and all four of them were covered in dirt, sweat, and cuts of varying sizes. They were all panting heavily, hoping to catch their breath before calling Muten Rōshi to check his work, Chi-Chi's idea as she didn't know if there were any more fields she missed, much to Krillin's chagrin, and Inosuke and Goku's upset stomachs... Finally, the hermit approached without being called, saw the work of the four and smiled.

"Good job, kids!" Rōshi clapped his hands. "You finished an hour earlier than I expected. I suspect it is because there are four of them, so try to finish the fields sooner next time. Now, let's have breakfast! "

Rōshi had said the magic word that brought the four of them, Inosuke and Goku especially out of their state of fatigue. When they returned to Kame House the food was ready, Goku and Inosuke finished their food quickly and at that moment Krillin caused Launch to sneeze and she started shooting at them.

"Hahaha, you're amused, I like you Jlanc" Inosuke said while laughing he tried to catch the bullets that came to him, Krillin and Roshi had already run away a while ago and Goku just ignored the bullets while eating what Roshi and Krillin left behind.

Hearing what Inosuke said, Launch blushed a bit seeing the cute boy saying that to him. But after realizing that she misspelled her name, she kept shooting at her angrily. Inosuke said that without knowing what it implies. And so from outside you could hear shots, a laugh and someone eating.

After breakfast, outside the Kame House

"Very well!" Rōshi yelled, ready to draw the attention of his students. "From now until lunchtime, we are going to study! Mastering martial arts requires more than training the body, it also requires training the mind.

Goku groaned at the idea of reading, while Krillin and Chi-Chi were prepared for such a task. Inosuke didn't know what it means and just kept listening silently.

A few hours later they finished their study with a Goku almost asleep and Inosuke dizzy from so much information, Roshi had taught them many things that are common for normal people. Chi-Chi and Krillin were perfectly fine.

After that they went back to eating now without any accident.

"The hammocks are ready!"

The four seated got up and walked outside to see five hammocks tied to a tree, the other ends tied to a different respective tree almost as if they were pointing to different compass directions. Rōshi walked over to inspect the hammock knots, ripping them off, testing their elasticity, and finally raised his smiling thumb before jumping into the south hammock and sighing. The four of them took their own hammocks.

The group then proceeded to take a peaceful nap until the alarm clock placed nearby went off at 1:30 p.m.

Roshi took them to a construction site for the next training.

"Well, what are you four standing for then? Put on your helmets and get to work! You will not be able to enter the Tenka'ichi budōkai if you don't make an effort! "

The four obeyed and began hauling wheelbarrows of concrete and rubble, as well as loosening the dirt with shovels to apply the base. This caught the attention of the currently understaffed workers there, causing them to stare in awe at their hard work, before snapping back to reality and resuming their own work as well.

The four of them once again gasped, but not so intensely this time. In front of them was a large lake, small waves glistening in the sun.

"Well," Rōshi drew attention. "Since you four have been sweating quite a bit today, the next step will be to swim laps."

"Aren't we finished yet?" Krillin exclaimed, believing that he was on the home stretch.

"I can't take it anymore" Chi-Chi commented in a low voice.

"Clever? You've just started, boy! " Rōshi replied

Hearing that Inosuke jumped into the water and began to swim to the other side, Goku seeing that went after him and the other two had no choice but to follow them.

"Oh, before I forget, watch out for the shark!"

As if it were a signal, a huge dorsal fin rose above the water, darting towards the swimmers, displaying eight rows of teeth, ready to eat, and accelerating the pace of the four swimmers.

"The following is a reflex test," Rōshi explained, seeing his four students standing around a tree, their waists tied with a rope.

"What is the rope for?" Goku asked, lifting the rope from his slack.

"You must evade your enemies by the extension of that rope," replied the hermit flatly. "Now let's get started!"

"What enemies?" Inosuke asked, noticing the Kame-Sennin tiptoeing around the tree.

CLUB!

Immediately, the hermit started running as a hive of angry bees fell from the tree, lashing out at the four with reckless abandon.

And so the four tried to avoid them as best they could with two with more success than the other two, although the bees could not penetrate their skin, they did it because of the training.

"You four are alive!" Rōshi called from behind a rock. "If you don't dodge fast enough, they will only sting you more!"

"I probably should have asked about allergies in the first place."

The group returned to the Kame House, with two of the students covered in bee stings and the teacher nonchalantly waiting for his students to line up. "Good job everyone today," announced the hermit.

"Muten Rōshi, sir," Krillin spoke, now thoroughly feeling the fatigue from today's exercises. "Is this type of training something we are going to do every day?"

"Well, not exactly this type," Rōshi clarified. "For the next 8 months until Tenka'ichi budōkai, you will do the same exercises…"

The Kame-Sennin dropped a capsule to the ground, exploding with a 'POI' revealing a duffel bag. Rōshi opened the bag and rummaged inside.

"Carrying these 20 kilogram shells, although two of you already carry them and are heavier," the hermit concluded, taking a shell from the backpack from the canvas bag. "They don't call me the Turtle Hermit for nothing!"

Krillin fell in an exasperated manner, while Chi-Chi put on her shell wondering what he got into because of a boy. The comic monk finally pulled himself together and donned his respective shell.

"Well, I'm tired, and I'm sure you guys are too. It's time for dinner and then sleep. "

"My brother and I will first fight while wearing these shells, we like to end the day with a good fight, then we will eat something and sleep" said Goku while smiling.

"Fight!" Inosuke simply said as he attacked Goku.

Seeing that, the others were surprised that they still have the energy to fight after all the training, but they went inside, ate and rested.

And so ended the first day of training for Roshi's four new students, with the goal of going to Tenka'ichi budōkai in 8 months.
