21 Chapter 21

As soon as I returned home, I saw Yukina waiting for me in the kitchen while slowly drinking some warm milk.

"You did it again, am I right?"

"Yes, I killed another stray. It's not like there should be a problem doing some pest control ."

"There won't be problems, but it could get annoying for both of us if the devils find out who's doing their job and even more when that said individual lives in their territory."

"To be fair, from what you told me this ain't their territory and it's more like a rented one, so I could play the guilt card and just make a sad backstory for my night outs ."

"One day, this kind of thinking will come and bite you in the ass, senpai."

"Well, when that day comes, I hope you will be there with me."

"I may have accepted you, senpai, but that still doesn't mean that we would be in any relationship other than me being your watchdog and you are my target."

"Yes, yes, say whatever you want now, but who's the one that moans like crazy when I'm drinking your blood every Sunday?"

"Just die already pervert senpai!"

While I was dodging Yukina, who was so embarrassed that she decided to kill me or at least chase me around the house, a couple of devils arrived at the place where I killed the lizard-like stray.

Sona Sitri and her childhood friend Rias Gremory were currently looking at the place where Akatsuki fought the stray.

"How many times did this happen in the last weeks?"

"Ten times, Rias, and every time we try to find who is doing our job, we only get short answers as if that person was a ghost."

"Maybe he's a strong devil that just happens to live close to our town?"

"I doubt that, Rias. Not only did the survivors say that the guy looked like a normal guy but the only thing that was strange about him was his strength. They didn't mention that he had wings or if he use any kind of magic and believe me, magic can do wonders when reading memories."

Just as she was about to say something, Rias recognized the two girls that were coming towards them.

"Akeno, Tsubaki, did you two find out anything?"

"Yes, Rias-sama. There was one camera that caught the whole fight."

"And I believe you two took care about this incident, right Tsubaki?" Sona asked while looking quite curious at the duo of Queens

"Of course, Sona-kaichou. Akeno and I took care of all. Not only did we wipe the memory of all of those people, but we even destroyed the cameras and their recording, of course, not before we made a copy of the recording, just in case something noteworthy could be seen on it. Akeno-san, please let them look at the recording."

Akeno swiped her fingers a few times across a tablet and turned it to the two heiresses.

On the tablet, there was footage from the security cameras showing a boy fighting the monster and dying in the process. Then it switched to when a mysterious guy, probably not older than them, was toying with the stray devil as if the stray was a toy for a baby and after that, it showed how the guy had apparently helped the woman get her revenge.

"Who was that guy!?" Rias excitedly exclaimed as if she saw the best fighting scene in her whole life.

"No idea, Buchou, but if we fast forward a bit, we can barely make out his face."

Akeno fast-forwarded the footage to a point where the guy was about to leave and just before he vanished, the camera caught a glimpse of his face. Unfortunately, the only thing that they could clearly identify was the eyes and his hair.

"Sona, don't these two features makes you remember a guy from our school?"

"Do you perhaps think that our mysterious stray hunter could be Akatsuki Kojou?"

"I mean, he's probably the only guy that has the same hair and the same eyes as the guy from the footage so maybe he's the one?"

"I'll talk with him tomorrow and see if he's really that guy, then we would know how to approach him, but I warn you, Rias, don't do anything that could put our relationship with him in danger if he's the hunter. We don't have the luxury to make an enemy now when your marriage is coming and when…never mind."

Meanwhile, I was sitting on the roof of the apartment complex. Thankfully, Yukina calmed down when my aunt arrived home from her work and since she didn't want to make my aunt angry, Yukina forced me to take her on a no-date kind of date. Sometimes I wonder how a girl thinks, but every time I think about that I get a headache.

While it could be interesting to find the secrets of the universe, I had more worrying problems than those. I don't know how or why, but I'm pretty sure that tomorrow I would have to talk with the devils and depending on how the conversation goes, I may be forced to do something I won't be proud of.

"Not that it really matters, after all, I would find a way to ensure my own safety…" Samuel muttered miserably. "But my aunt, Yukina, and even Abe's safety could be at risk thanks to me, but from what both girls told me, not all devils are bad, especially those from the Gremory and Sitri houses."

I sighed as I stared up at the night sky, the stars looked so bright… sometimes I wondered if Abe, Yukina and I could sometime in the future look together at the stars. But soon after I shivered a bit, not from the cold, but because I was afraid, that one day, those two girls that had made their way inside my heart would get hurt because of me and my hero-complex.

(A/N: Also the reason why my schedule got all f up is due to me getting my hands on both Dying light 2 and Total War Warhammer 3... so yeah...)
