4 Chapter 4

The next morning, I didn't know that a good news is waiting for me. So, as usual I woke up with a long face that I cannot go back to my dream.

I went down and saw a cup of coffee ready for me. I sat down when my mom showed an envelope in front of me. It was addressed to me from Dartmouth.

" Congrats, Claire. ", she said.

Oh my God! I got placed in Dartmouth... my dream college. Just then I received a message from Alec that he got placed in Dartmouth too. I should've been dreaming.

I went out to see Sam.

" What was wrong with you yesterday? ", I asked Sam.

" Nothing that you can think of ", he said.

" Sam, what's going on? "

" I'll tell you later, not now----"

We suddenly turned towards his house door as we heard someone trying to come in. And there came a tall girl with thin, long legs and blonde hair down to her shoulder.

" Long time no see, Alec", she said.

Alec just stared back in disgust.

" I see you've got a new girlfriend ", she said nodding to me.

" She is my best friend. And why are even here?", he asked.

" Oh I needed to know how well my ex-boyfriend is, now", she said smiling a not-good smile.

" You had a girlfriend before Lucy? ", I asked really shocked. " And you didn't mind to tell me once".

" This is why I told you I'll tell you afterwards ", he said.

"Hey wait... I know you", I said in recognition.

She smiled back.

"You're Alicia right? Alicia Corner. "

She nodded happily. I suddenly went and threw my arms around her.

"You knew her?!", Sam asked in shock.

"Of course I knew. She was my best friend, you know, when I was 5. We were neighbors", I replied as usual.

"Look, Alicia. Claire might be your best friend, but I can't forget what you did to me. This doesn't make you a decent person, Corner. So, if you don't mind, please leave this house immediately ", he said this so harshly, to my surprise.

"I don't have any need to be in this waste of a house anyway", she snapped these words and shut the door behind her.

I was literally speechless. I stood there for a moment glaring at Sam. And I knew he understood my reaction completely. Explanation.

"Look Clay, this might not seem right for me to tell you this. You betterask your boyfriend. "

Okay...! I'm really angry now.

"What's Alec got to do with this?! I mean, you've been my best friend for over 10 years Samuel. And you didn't bother to tell me what happened between you and Alicia. And finally I have found happiness in my life by going out with Alec. You know how much I love him and how long I waited for him. Great. Now you're telling me that Alec's somehow involved in this. And... how can you so harsh on Alicia, Sam. And yesterday, on my first date, when you and Alec met each other in my presence, you both exchanged death glares, Sam. I mean, being your friend, I deserve to know right? ", I spit out rapidly. And I regretted knowing the answer immediately.

"Alicia Corner is the person who separated the two closest childhood friends. Me and Alec O'Brien".
