16 Chapter 16: Survivors and Newb Hero

Jane's face went from pride in herself for being cunning, to horrified in Lucas in an instant.

"H-How the hell?!" She stuttered as Lucas stretched in place and looked for his stuff.

'Damn, where the hell are my goggles?' Lucas thought to himself as he found the room to be relatively empty... After looking over to Lina he could see that she was even missing her wand and tutu.

"Where the hell is my stuff?" Lucas asked seriously.

Jane took a step back before Mich stepped in front of her.

"Back off kid! You got nothing on me!" He yelled at Lucas and puffed his chest out.

<Mich: Age: 34 / LV: 10(Healer) / LV: 1(Doctor)>

"Yeah right!" Lucas replied at the obvious bullshit of a lie that the man told.

Lucas walked forward with the intent of getting what he wanted before he felt a faint pull on his shirt from behind.

He turned around to see a slightly panicked Lina trying to hold his hand and pull him away.

"Lukey! These people saved me... You can't hurt them." She said with determination. Lucas instantly calmed down in response to her cute acting skills and nodded towards her.

Lucas turned away from Lina and looked directly at Jane, staring daggers at her.

"You are going to give me back my stuff or I will leave here without a second thought," Lucas answered calmly.

Jane scoffed at him and began to shake her hand before Mich sent out a shaky punch Lucas's way.

Lucas felt time slow down as his speed increased due to <Dodge>. The fist inched forward and Lucas simply sidestepped and yanked his hand forward, causing him to fall to the ground.

"Man your lame dude," Lucas said as he tutted.

Jane's face turned sour before looking at Mich who was currently sprawled on the ground with an angry and humiliated look decorating his face.

"Didn't your daughter just tell you to be peaceful?" Jane asked.

Lucas laughed aloud before nodding towards Lina.

Lina straightened her back and stared at the man on the floor with disdain, then proceeded to walk up to the man who was lying on the ground and kick him in the groin as hard as a middle schooler could.

The man let out a yelp of pain and writhed on the ground in response.

"And that! Is what You! Get!" She finished with a humph.

Lucas patted her on the head as she returned to which Lina smiled.

Jane's face turned confused before looking at the weird duo in front of her.

"What have I gotten myself into?" Jane sighed quietly.

"Your stuff is in the closet there." She said as she pointed to the only other door in the room beside the one in which the teenage boy had left.

Lucas nodded and opened the door to find a few neatly packed bags full of rations and reusable water bottles. His equipment was neatly stacked to the side while his goggles were nowhere to be found.

He grabbed his supplies while frowning. He got himself ready to travel by slinging the bag over his shoulder and passing it by to Lina.

"We are leaving here." He said simply to which Lina nodded, though a look of hesitation appeared on her face as she looked back at Jane.

"W-wait what?" Jane stuttered as a pale look appeared on her face.

"Well... You didn't give me back everything. So I'm gonna take it by force and leave. Simple as that." Lucas said plainly.

Janes's face turned into one of mock confusion as she began to try and defend herself.

"Cut the bullshit. You give me my goggles and I will owe you a favor. You don't and I'll get them myself and leave here in an instant."

Jane looked at him with a look of defeat before slowly shaking her head.

"Sorry, but no. Those goggles are just too good to let go." She said with a tone of finality in her voice.

"We have plenty of fighters here and you won't be able to take us all." She finished.

Lucas smirked at her and looked at Lina for permission who shrugged in response.

"Well, I suppose it is time to introduce myself... The name is Lucas Walker. I'm the top-ranked User on the leader board and I'm pretty sure I can take on a small group of survivors without breaking a sweat unless they happen to be on the level of three trained military professionals." Lucas said with certainty written clear on his face.

Janes's face remained confused and it was clear that the words had gone through one ear and out the other.

"Tournament? What tournament?"

Lucas released a heavy sigh before pulling out <Night bat> and just simply walking out of the room.

"Come on Lina. These people won't be able to help us even if they had double the amount of people than they probably have." Lucas thought as he calculated the number of people that would probably be in a hospital of this size and cut it in half.

Lina seemed slightly deflated as Lucas left the room without another word.

But instead of making a racket looking for the goggles Lucas simply left the hospital without another word to any of the people inside. Silence seemed to follow him as he walked through the hallways as those who were previously talking animatedly looked at him in confusion.

But right before Lucas was about to leave the building the automatic doors seemed to be broken... or locked.

Lucas shrugged and began to rear back with <Night Bat> to swing and simply destroy them when a figure dressed in simple black clothes appeared in front of him in a flash.

The man was pretty young, and from the system, Lucas knew his exact age.

<???: Age: 16 / LV: 15(Hero) LV: 12(Student)>

"A hero?" Lucas openly questioned the kid in front of him, who in no aspect looked as young as the prompt told him.

The kid, who moments before seemed filled with confidence, faltered for a moment as he lost his composure.

The thing that made Lucas interested in the kid however was the fact that he had something that belonged to Lucas. His goggles are also known as the <Sight of Nyx>.

"If you know any better than that 'Jane' chick you outa give me what belongs to me real quick," Lucas said in a fed-up tone.

These people stole from him and tied him up expecting him to become their guinea pig. Lucas wasn't one to treat others rudely but he was finished with this group of survivors. In other circumstances, he would have tried to join them and help them out... but right now, they were his enemies in a matter of speaking.

"They are not yours anymore." The kid said plainly as he regained his composure.

"What the hell do you mean?!" Lucas asked angrily. "I made the damn thing!"

The kid seemed a little stunned for a second before shaking his head sadly.

"Then, I, Ember Calihan <Champion of Nyx>, challenge you to a formal duel among champions." The kid said as he pulled off one of his black cloth gloves from his hand and threw it to the ground with a smirk on his face.

"Is this kid stupid or something?" Lucas asked Lina.

"I don't know Lukey, but something feels weird about him. Be careful."

Lukas nodded in reply as he tried to simply walk forward but found a barrier had appeared between him and Ember.

And then, to Lucas's surprise, a notification popped up in front of him.

<The user has been challenged to a formal duel by a champion of a god! The user may not reject due to a lower ranking in divinity. The duel conditions are as follows:

If Ember Calihan <Champion of Nyx> dies, then Lucas Walker <Forge's Heir> will gain all of the possessions of the <Champion> and the <Champion> will step down from his position.

If Lucas Walker <Forge's Heir> dies then the exact truth is in vice versa except for stepping down from ones' position as the <Forge's Heir> is a permanent title and one that cannot be stripped.

<Accept?>

<Yes or Yes?>

"Why is the apocalypse so god damn annoying?!" Lucas asked out loud to no one in particular before clicking accept.

Little did Lucas know he was about to fight the hardest fight he had ever fought in his life.
