14 Chapter 14: Race Change / Demigod

Lucas's face turned sour and he looked back to see Lina looking at him in a confused manner.

"Lina. You need to get away from here right now. Go down the block or something. I need to do this alone." Lucas said with a bite to his tone.

"W-What? Why?" Lina asked, getting more confused by the moment.

"Just Scram. This is personal okay." He said as his voice got a little softer near the end.

Lina nodded at him and quickly ran away back to her hiding spot behind the car near the end of the block.

Lucas walked forward with a type of swagger he hadn't had for years.

The old man began to backstep as he saw the angry, no furious, look on Lucas's face.

"W-what are you doing there L-Lucas?!" The man said as he began to sweat profusely.

Lucas let out a long sigh as he smirked lightly.

"You just had to go and bring it up around the kid."

"Doesn't everyone know Lucas? You killed so many people... Why do you think you had to work back-end jobs? To hide from the public after you worked with The Hand." The old man said as he gained a sense of confidence, standing his ground slightly as he pulled out a handheld radio.

"I'm not that kind of person anymore," Lucas said with spite.

"I changed."

"I adapted."

"I became the person I always wanted to be."

And with that last statement, Lucas tossed the bat in his hand at the old man's hand that was holding the handheld radio.

The man jerked back but not in time as the radio easily broke into pieces as the bat collided with it.

<EVoLuTioN ReQuiRmenT MeT!>

<Auto evolution commencing.>

<ERROR!>

<Reporting to system admin... Admin Override.>

<Requirments met for race evolution. Accept?>

'What?' Lucas thought to himself as he looked at the prompt.

'Evolution requirement? System Admin Override?'

'What the hell is happening? What even was the requirement?>

{To understand the purpose of your unique class}

The prompt in front of him was different than the others. It was bright red with black text on the page. Lucas stopped himself and looked at it in confusion. He was so confused he even let the military lacky getaway as he stared at the screen.

'What purpose did I understand?' Lucas asked the prompt and surprisingly it actually responded. Almost like an instant messaging app, an ellipse appeared and text quickly followed.

{To understand how you got it. To change from one of the worst people on the earth to a person who has a heart bigger than the average man. You are a good man now Lucas.}

'What the hell is this? What is this freaking system anyways?!' Lucas asked as he realized he was actually on the verge of getting real answers.

{You got your answer, Lucas. It's your choice on whether to evolve or not. Choose carefully.}

And just like that, the prompt disappeared, almost as if it was never there in the first place.

Lucas sighed and let out a curse.

'To evolve or not to evolve? That is the question.' Lucas asked himself as he re-read the prompt he had received.

'Do I really want to be something else than a human?' Lucas asked himself before just pressing the yes button.

'I need to get stronger... any way possible. As long as it means that I can protect her...' Lucas thought as he glanced behind him to where Lina was hidden.

The prompt quickly changed as a few names appeared with no description underneath them.

---

<Congratulations as the first human in this world to evolve into a different race the race you choose will be upgraded to a higher one. The higher race will not be shown until you choose the progenitor race>

<Race evolution selection>

<Jottun: Giant race>

<Alf: Elven Race>

<Earth Borne: Dwarf Race>

<Dark Borne: Shadow>

<Daemon: Demon/Devil Race>

<Star Borne: The Creator's Race>

<Please choose out of the list that has been provided.>

---

"What the hell is this? It seems like it was ripped right out of a fantasy book..." Lucas said aloud in question as he stared at the weird names.

Lucas took in a deep breath before looking at the races again.

"Alright."

'I don't want anything that will limit my size so no giant or dwarf.'

'Elves are pretty dainty in literature and games so they are a no-go too.'

'I'm not a bad person so why would I ever want to be a demon or a devil?'

'So that leaves the Star Borne and Dark Borne which are better known as the shadows and the creator's race...'

'What the hell even are they?'

"Ugh..."

'This is a tough decision.'

'Darkness would complicate the fact that I have called down the goddess Nyx... But the creator's race seems really interesting.'

'I guess why not choose the last one? Don't people usually save the best for last anyways?' Lucas asked no one in particular.

'System, I choose the Creator's Race.' Lucas thought to the mighty system.

<Star Borne has been selected>

<Star Borne race has been upgraded for free to the upgraded version of said race>

<User will now transform into a <Knowledge Borne: Psychic>>

"A fucking spoon bender?!" Lucas exclaimed but before he could complain further a piercing pain was sent through his mind as he fell to the ground unconscious.

---

In a place very much unrelated to Forendel a man stood over a conglomerate of people who kneeled in front of him with their heads bowed in either respect or worship or perhaps both.

The man's skin was as smooth and tough as marble and his chiseled features spoke out your very soul as his eyes pierced into you, searching for sins and flaws.

"My dearest people!" The man shouted in a voice that reverberated with power and strength.

"As you know I have the blessings of Taum, the new god of Heroes!"

"I have been blessed to protect you from the monsters that come from the worlds beyond. The rifts that have ripped through our world and sent chaos and strife across the world are blessed." As he said this a few of the people in the crowd of people looked up in confusion and a few let out audible gasps.

"Taum has spoken. He has whispered into my ears the secrets of the rifts! They were sent not to destroy us but to make us stronger. They are what has given the gods the power to intervene in the world. It is what has given new life to this world!" He exclaimed with reverie clear in his voice.

A few of the people began to stand up at the words of the man in front of him in protest.

"This cannot be true you may say. Some of you have lost your friends to the beasts that have come." He said, stopping the people from completely falling into unrest.

"Your brothers."

"Your sisters."

"Your families have suffered and so have you. But Taum has guided me and through me, I will guide you."

"This world is not perfect, just as the last one wasn't, but in this one, we have the power to change it. The power to truly become the people we want to be. There will be no restrictions!" He shouted at the people and as he did so his body seemed to glow with a white light as his eyes that were previously milky white burned golden.

"For those with good in their heart and the determination and faith in Taum, this place will be heaven for."

"It is not the apocalypse people! It is a new age! A New dawn!" He screamed as the night sky burst with light.

The people in the crowd's eyes glossed over with heavenly light as they all bowed deeper and recited prayers of old and new.

"Taum will be our savior and I shall be your saint!" He shouted as the clouds parted and a ball of light crashed down into the man, no, the demigod.

The demigod smiled as the ball of light finally connected with you and he stared in front of him, seemingly staring at the crowd.

<Faith has been absorbed. Divinity stat has risen. The user has gained a qualitative change to stats.>

He quickly commanded the system to show him the page he was looking for and smiled even better at the sight that was before him.

---
