13 Chapter 13: Bounty Hunters in The Apocalypse?!

Lucas approached like a deadly hunter as he quickly found himself within 20 feet of the two people targeting him.

Lucas heard a quiet popping noise and sidestepped to avoid the incoming ranged shot.

'Why is the sniper even still in the battle? They are too far away for them to make a distance.' Lucas thought before feeling a punch to his shoulder.

Lukas quickly looked at his shoulder to find a bulled nestled within the shield that was protecting him.

'How did he-' Lucas's thoughts were quickly cut off as the Trick shooter fired three rounds directly at him, though this time without any special effects.

Lucas felt his speed increase once more as he deflected one of the shots while the other two hit his arms causing a light tapping noise to be heard.

<The user has leveled up <Basic club proficiency> to LV: 7 by doing the amazing feat of deflecting a bullet!>

'Four whole levels huh...' Lucas thought as the skill prompt filled his view.

---

<Basic club proficiency: Tier 0 / LV: 7/ Rarity: Common> Requirement: Use a club or club like item in combat successfully.

You are learning how to use the club… slowly at least. 35% improved learning speed when using club-like weapons as well as a 20% improvement to speed and damage while using a club in combat.

---

Lucas quickly closed out of it while looking at the values before running forward once more.

He arrived at about arm's length of the trick shooter before swinging his bat at his left shoulder.

Lucas felt a crunch as he directly caved the entire shoulder into itself and a mortified look appeared on the man in front of him as he shook from the pain.

Lucas quickly took another strike at his knees but a sharp pain and blast of energy sent him barreling across the street through a glass window into what looked to be an antique store.

Lucas quickly looked at where the attack came from and found that the 'Miss Lu' had shot him with a shotgun that was now glowing with purple energy.

The damage wasn't much after inspecting it, however. It just seemed like his skin was tender but the big thing he noticed was that he had lost his shield around him, however, after noticing it disappearing the shield immediately appeared again as he heard the 'Quote'.

"Bubble, Bubble, No More Trouble!" Lina shouted from the cover that the car gave her a few hundred feet away.

'Hell yeah, Lina!'

Lucas dashed forward before getting a notification that he quickly brushed off.

<The skill <Sprint> has leveled up to LV: 2.>

'System! What are my health and stamina at?' Lucas questioned as he raised his bat and slammed down upon the poor girl with the shotgun who raised it in defense from the blow.

---

[Name:]

Lucas Walker

Health: 1250/1300

Stamina: 103/130

---

Lucas nodded as he finished the swing, the bat cleaving through the shotgun, completely destroying it and making it a useless hunk of metal.

Metal pieces of shrapnel exploded outward from the blow and were deflected by his shield while the girl wasn't so lucky, as she received a few minor scratches.

Lucas then swung once more as he completely caved in her skull.

<User has killed Lucy Prim, LV: 4 <Marksmen(main class)> / LV:12 <Bounty Hunter(subclass). The user has gained 160 XP. The user has absorbed a soul and has gained 1 charm.>

<User has leveled up in the <Evolution: Infinite> class to LV: 7. The user has gained 10 stat points.>

'Spend them on dexterity.'

'Bounty hunters aye... After me?' Lucas thought as he grimaced. He had taken the life of a human and even though that person was trying to kill him he still killed a person. His first real 'kill'.

Lucas then turned his attention on the other 'bounty hunter' and swung his bat at him with a speed that was even more terrifying than before.

The man flinched before getting his knees broken in one fell swoop.

'That's two... But the third will be even harder to catch. Looks like I might have to take cover or try and intimidate him.' Lucas pondered on what to do.

Lucas nodded his head as he forced a smile on his face that looked just as maniacal as before.

Lucas brought the bat just above the man's head who had both his left arm and both legs crippled.

"Hey, buddy! I'll kill your friend if you don't come out. I won't kill you if you do though and that's a promise." He said while a look of seriousness crossed his face for an instant.

"I'm a man of my word so I wouldn't take my offer lightly. You come out and you go free and your friend might too. I just want to talk and you can be on your merry way."

"And if not... I could always kill your friend here and track you down. I have my ways after all." Lucas blatantly lied.

After a few moments of silence, a man in his late forties left a nearby building with his hands raised and no weapon in sight.

Lucas smiled at the man and waved him forward, putting away his bat as he did so.

The man hesitantly put down his arms and stepped forwards.

"You're a good shot. I wonder how you pulled off that shot earlier." Lucas said aloud as he looked at the man.

He had greying hair and a short beard that looked like it hadn't been trimmed in a while. He looked older than he actually was, seeing as Lucas could see his age. He wore simple military attire and was the only one who was wearing something that seemed 'official'.

"It's a secret." The man said honestly. "A military secret at that."

Lucas nodded and looked down at the man's friend. He was beaten and bruised but he could live. He wasn't bleeding out which was a good sign even though he had some deep scratches.

"So... why did you decide to attack a random civilian that was just walking down the street?" Lucas got to the point.

The man sighed and shook his head lightly and began to speak but Lucas stopped him before he could say a word.

"And don't give me any of that 'It's a secret' crap. This is something I won't budge on." Lucas said seriously as his hand twitched as if in anticipation.

"Yeah! What Lukey Said!" Lucas heard from Lina who had finally left hiding and was standing a little bit behind him.

The older man sighed deeply before finally answering the question.

"Well... Your not a normal civilian are you Lucas?" The man said ominously.

"What?" Lucas asked straight out.

'How does this asshole know my name?'

"Lucas Walker. The strongest man in the world. Something that can be attested to the fact that you killed or took out three military-trained assassins."

"We had a headstart before you Lucas. I myself started out with the majority of my levels and a good chunk of XP. But a construction worker like you? You should have started with next to nothing." The man said.

"You were a nobody before this. A vagrant who went from city to city looking for work. But somehow all of that changed when 'this' happened." The man motioned around him.

'That's why they were such a high level...' Lucas concluded. 'And that's why they have such low stats.'

"And so what? I may be ranked number one but why would the military want to kill me?"

The man shook his head and shrugged.

"I don't know Lucas. All I know is that I got orders from the top and a statement with your name and background on it." He answered.

"I'm a high-class assassin for Forendel. The top of the top. One of my bullets has always ended the lives of the high and mighty and the strong and powerful, but you Lucas, you are different."

"A random person who has suffered in this country of ours. A person who has no relationship underneath the government and may even hold a grudge from it gaining power is a natural fear of theirs."

"Imagine someone that took the majority of your money every month and you became the most powerful man in the world. What would you do then?"

"... I would forgive and forget. I'm the strongest so why should I care?" Lucas thought as grim thoughts raced through his head.

'This mother fucker knows!' Lucas thought as he kept the thoughts he had hidden in his mind for so long down and out of focus.

"Most wouldn't answer that way. Especially a criminal like yourself."

And with that Lucas pulled out his bat and walked forwards.
