Prologue

"Welcome all." The speaker was tall and clearly male. His voice rose and fell in it's deep tones. Twelve people sat around a very very expensive business office. This was one of many around the country that were used by these people. This organization was one of many around the world, some may say they're radicals. Some say they're idealists. Some say they're killers. However, they believe they are protectors, seeking to bring about world peace. The man spoke once more. "I am pleased to welcome another member to our organization." An assistant came forward beside him, a tall thin woman of twenty-two with long red hair and cold green eyes watched and took in every face. "Veronica." Polite applause sprang up. Veronica however, did not bow or even incline her head. She like many of them was trained to seek out any enemies. She was trained to eye every face and memorize it. She was a hunter, a killer of forty lives. They all knew this and they decided to take her in. For every life she had stolen, this organization, the Keepers, would pay her a great some of money for what she's done. Some kills were assassinations, some were because she felt like it. Actually, as she remembers, three were accidental. Well, they pissed her off. She was already in a bad mood. But the reason she joined this, these people, were because of somethings that she hadn't ever told anyone.

Veronica wasn't one who'll tell anyone anything. She, perhaps, was even more deadly than any of them. Maybe even the king. The lord who brought them all together. He wasn't here of course. He wouldn't have been unless something was horribly wrong. All twelve, now thirteen of them knew this information. He was rumored to have made his home in California with several other keepers. Rumor has it only one person had been there. She, was in the room with them. Six men, and now, seven women. They all knew, all knew who went there. That, that information made her the most deadly of all the keepers. The leader of their sector, Washington D.C. waved his hand and she sat next to him. Her movements were fluid, graceful. "As you know," The man continued. "It has been quite some time since we've last spoken. Years have gone passed and we've vanished off the Earth." Nods and kind words at this. "We are superior to all government, the Russians even enjoy our regime and fund a new selection of sectors in Russia, Japan, and Germany. However, our lord feels things rising from the depts of hell." A shutter made it's way around the cluster of killers. All except one that is. "That's right. They are arriving on to Earth again." He said this like they were some demon aliens or monsters. Monsters from a different planet or origin that needed to be sent back or slaughtered. "Our lord feels things rising again from this horror. He told us lords to call you forward. We must awaken the Keepers once more. The horrors are returning." He pulled a picture up on a laptop. The photo appeared on the big screen behind him. The picture was a teenage boy, maybe of sixteen or seventeen. He was blind. They could all see that. One eye was closed. The other however, was a bright blue. "Huh, a black with blue eyes." One man said. "Actually," replied another. "I think he's mixed." Veronica however was making her impressions on him. He had a huge, a huge scar on his forehead. It rose on the right side, then a line made it's way to the center of his forehead, fading away. Veronica made a disgusted sound, the first sound she made since arriving there.

"Yes, yes, to imagine this boy as a monster. But our lord suspects him. He however hasn't made any moves to collect any others. For now he is on his own. For now--How do we know he's a real suspect?" The woman, Veronica, moved so fast no one even moved. A blade flashed through the air and the man who spoke fell to the floor, the knife in his throat. "No one, no, one, interrupts a, lord, while, he is, speaking." Veronica's voice was so cold and icy, the twelve, now made eleven, shivered. The lord nodded. He wasn't going to kill him, not yet. But now she's done it, it gave him an idea. One that could use her. "We must gather the Keepers once more. We all are going to bring back our people." He looked around at each face, even Veronica's. He zoomed in on the boy's eye. It shown with humor and mischief that said he was a trouble maker. But there was, was, something about it. Something otherworldly about him. Something hidden about him. Something he may not even know about. "We will search for him. There aren't that many blind schools around here. We'll search Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. The lord suspects he lives somewhere near here." They all nodded and he stood. They stood with him. "Keepers." He said. They echoed him. They bowed and he inclined his head. They filed out one by one. Veronica waited, her eyes cold as they stared at the boy. The lord caught her eye. "Find him, find him and you'll be rewarded. Rewarded greatly." Her head snapped up like a snake. She bared her teeth, much like a snake. He inclined his head and she bowed again. He would burn the man's body later. Then dump the ashes into the river. Then he would contact the king. Then, they'd plan, plan for what would come. If they could gather everyone in time, find the boy and kill him before he'd share his powers, then they may stop it before it comes. But if he shares his powers, if he grows stronger with the help of others, others, others of his line. Then it would call for their next plan. Then next plan. They succeeded in stopping these monsters before, and they will do it again. They will stop them again. They will, because the retribution they'd face would be worse than death.
