5 Freedom

The impact of the man's blow had dazed me for a second, then the severity of the situation kicked in. The two men had been talking about something but I couldn't hear as my senses were still coming back to me. I look over to the man who had Lynn, and it seems that Lynn had taken a blow as well. She didn't look responsive at all. I panicked.

"Lynn! Let her go! Please! Just take me instead!"

The man who had pinned me against a wall yelled

"shut the hell up! You don't get to decide what happens."

He then punches me in my stomach causing me to fall to the ground. I try to let out a scream but my voice can't seem to leave my mouth. The man lays more devastating punches onto me, then went to grab my hair as he pulls out a knife and holds it to my throat.

"I can kill you right here and now, that way you won't bring any danger to this peaceful town. Your kind are only alive at the mercy of the world, the fact that we know nothing about any of you is why you are spared. But I say we should get rid of every last one of you demons to avoid any catastrophe."

Struggling to speak I let out a weak plead,

"Please, I don't care what you do to me, but please just spare my sister, she's only eight."

The man ignores my words as both men push their knives onto our throats. I scream in pain as I can feel the blade slowly cutting through my skin, the crimson red blood subtly oozing out of my throat runs down my neck. For some reason both men stop in place and let go of me, immediately after catching a breath I rush to Lynn and grab her. As I move towards the exit of the alleyway a man in a gold and purple cloak is standing there. A deep voice different from the two men speaks out

"A disgusting display of the human heart when faced with the unknown. Fall into a deep sleep until you realize the error of your ways."

The man snaps his fingers and both men collapse and look unconscious. I look at the cloaked man and I fall to my knees crying with Lynn still unconscious next to me. The cloaked man walks up to me, gets on one knee and puts his hand on my shoulder.

"There there young one, let it all out. If you don't you'll never be able to pick yourself up."

He grabs my hands and I begin to calm down; I look down at them as a piece of dark purple fabric turns up in my hands.

"This will not make you invisible but will conceal your presence from those with no deep connection to you. Use this when travelling so that people similar to them do not attempt an act like this as I wont be around to protect you like today."

I look at the man but cannot make out his face as there is some weird darkness covering it with his hood.

"Thank you, thank you so much sir, I owe you my life."

He stands up and then turns around

"All you have to do to repay me is to just live your life how you want, do not let anyone walk over your freedom as you are human."

The man then walks off and turns the corner.

Once the man walks out of my vision I immediately get up and put on the cloak quickly, I then grab Lynn and rush out of the alleyway to find the cloaked man. Once I leave the alley way I look both ways but he is nowhere to be found. I let out a sigh and rushed home. Who was that man and why did he help me. I hope someday I can meet him again. Once finally arriving home I knock on the door waiting for somebody to answer. After a few seconds the door opens and I am met with my mother who has a face of confusion and then immediately changes to surprise. She grabs Lynn and I then hurries us inside. As she is laying Lynn on her bed in our room she comes back and says

"Your father is out at work, what on earth happened to you two, and what is that cloak?!"

I explained the situation to my mother. The sadness in her face as I tell the story hurts me, it's really hard being able to explain what had happened without breaking out into tears. Once I had finished explaining she rushed in for a hug.

"I'm so sorry honey, I'm so sorry this is happening to you and your sister. I cannot comprehend how you two must be feeling."

Still frozen in fear of remembering the incident, I slowly and reluctantly hug back, but then the warmth of my mom's hug had changed how everything felt. It's warm, it feels so warm. Right then and there I just broke down and cried. I couldn't hold anything back anymore, everything hurt.

"Why did he treat me like that? I didn't even fight back or wasn't even close to being a threat to him. Why am I like this? What is the point of my existence? I didn't ask to be a demon!"

The tears keep flowing as the strength in my body weakens,

"You are not a demon Namea, you are my daughter, a human being. You just found out you can use magic, just like every other living being on this planet. You are special, "

Hearing this my body begins to untense and I start to get more tired. Eventually everything becomes lighter, after a few minutes I began to lose consciousness.

I am once again brought back to the beach from that weird dream. Behind me once again is the expanse of darkness, an area I feel terrified of exploring. I hear the voice of the cloaked man,

"You'll never be able to pick yourself up."

"Do not let anyone walk over your freedom as you are human."

Hearing these words lights what feels like a fire in my chest. I look over at the beach and I can see myself holding Lynn's hand. These visions are of after we escaped that alleyway, Beaten and bloodied. I start to feel sad, angry, and lost. I clench my fist wondering what it is I can do when suddenly, I hear a woman's voice call out from behind me.

"You can beat them all, the ones who want to trample on your freedom, all you have to do is walk into the darkness. You have discovered the power within you, why not use it to ruin those who want to do the same to you. To save Lynn from any more harm."

For a second all I could think about was saving Lynn from anything else so I took a few steps towards the darkness. All I could think in these steps was about standing up and beating those who want to destroy me. Eventually I had completely entered into the darkness. Taking a step in, I began to sink, as if I was in an ocean of darkness. I couldn't move as I sank down, I just stared down at what would be the bottom of the expanse if there was one. Suddenly, two blue hands without a body reaches out to me, following after ten more hands came after, all reaching towards me. A voice called out to me,

"Hey! Are you in there? Wake up!"

Suddenly, a light breaks through what had seemed to be a never-ending darkness, causing the hands reaching for me to disappear. In that moment I try my hardest to look up towards the light. At the center of the light, I can see Luelle, reaching out for me. I swim as hard as I can upwards to her, the light helps me guide my way up to her. After some time I manage to grab her hand. Immediately, the entire expanse of darkness is blown away and reduced to a small hole. I am back on the beach, Luelle looks at me and holds my hand and we then begin walking towards the ocean. As we walk I can hear the woman's voice from the darkness call out to me,

"Sooner or later you will have to accept who you truly are"

as we walk further into the water the dream ends and I wake up in my bed.
