On Thursday, March 19, 2020, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi urged citizens to follow the concept of 'Janta Curfew' on March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm.

Do you know what is Janta Curfew?

For the first time in history, you may have heard the word Janata curfew. The term introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an effort to combat coronavirus spread.

"On March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm, all countrymen have to follow the Janta Curfew," PM Narendra Modi said.

The Prime Minister implored all citizens of India to observe a self-imposed 'curfew' on Sunday and to commit to the fight against Covid-19 to help curb its spread and stay safe.

He asked everyone to stay at home as much as possible because social distancing is one a crucial and effective way to ensure that deadly novel coronavirus is contained.

He even especially urged people above the age of 60 to not venture out of their homes for the next few weeks.

At 5 pm on March 22, all the citizens are requested by the prime minister to encourage the people working in essential services, in the times of coronavirus, by standing in their doorways and clapping and ringing their bells as for the past two months, millions are working day and night in hospitals and airports and those serving others by not taking care of themselves.

PM Modi even said, "If possible, please call at least 10 people every day and tell them about the 'Janta Curfew' as well as the measures to prevent."

Hence, during the Janata Curfew, people are requested to avoid public spaces and stay home for 14 hours from 7 am to 9 pm, in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak which has affected over 100 countries across the world.
