1 Prologue

Advancing onto the green landscape, a smile stretched onto the petite yet round face of a child as young as three.

"Wait for me!" She accelerated her pace, making an effort to reach the two adults.

The specs of brown along with the pupils in her eyes caught the pleasant expressions they directed to her as they offered a single hand to hold. A giggle escaped her thin lips and she raised her arms to place her tiny hands into theirs.

"Where are we going?" She requested an answer by enquiring this as she performed a little hop, revealing the high amount excitement that almost burst out of her chest.

Not receiving an immediate response, her coffee coloured eyes flickered up once more to the two taller beings but they blinked, perplexity lingering in them as soon as the look they sent her was now pained.

The scene surrounding her altered from the beautiful scenery to a deserted street. Beads of clear liquid landed on top of her head which she discovered to be rain, a shiver endlessly traveling up and down her spine once the wind picked up. Her body trembled ever so slightly as the only warmth she felt vanished from her hands, the duo falling onto the soaked street where parts of their bodies began to twist in sickening ways. The sound of wheels screeching against the concrete surface entered through her ears and her head shot up. A car as green as summer leaves reversed and drove around the injured bodies, speeding away to a place unknown to her. Resting both knees against the ground, the three-year-old shook the woman gently, glancing at the man a few times.

"Mama…Papa," She called.

No reaction.

Tears stung the corner of her eyes as she quivered in fear. Her lips parted to call her parents once more but a pair of hands wrapped themselves around her waist and pulled her away. She snapped her head to her left, feeling a sense of panic rise inside of her. She didn't recognise the lady holding her as she squirmed around, trying to escape.

"Calm down child." Her body somehow relaxed at the soft voice.

Drawing her phone from her pocket, the elderly dialled a number and placed the speaker by her ear. The toddler heard a voice from the other line and awaited her reply. Her eyes grew wide shortly after she managed to gather the words that spilled out the female's lips.

"Send an ambulance to King's street. There's been an accident."
