11 System Update 0.2

The following day I wake up to the system giving me several dings and many other noises. Before reading the messages, I almost thought the whole thing had somehow blue screened somehow.

[DING!]

[The system has detected an available update.]

[Starting update...1%...2%...3%...]

Seeing these messages, I get up at lightning speed, looking forward to what this update brings.

Since the system only has the bare minimum to even function correctly right now, pretty much, any additional features would be a welcome surprise. I don't have to wait for long since it only takes a minute for the update to finish.

[The system has been updated to version 0.2, click here to see the changelog.]

I, of course, click the message, and a whole new window pops up with a wall of text.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Welcome to version 0.2 of the system! With this update, we have included numerous new features along with some bug fixes and balance adjustments. For details, please continue reading.]

[Classes - Once the user reaches level 100 in their current class, the user will be able to choose a new one that brings with it different stat gains and new skills. Classes can be split into three categories: Regular, Advanced, and Unique.

Regular classes are available from the start. These are, however, the weakest choices.

Advanced classes require the user to complete some prerequisites before unlocking them. These prerequisites could be reaching level 100 in a previous class, crossing a threshold in a specific stat, or acting in a certain way. Advanced classes are almost always stronger than regular classes. Advanced classes require 1.5x more xp to level up than regular classes.

Unique classes are the strongest of the three but also the rarest. Unlocking them requires completing events in the real world like getting bit by a radioactive spider to unlock the Spider-man class or surviving a blast of gamma radiation to get the Hulk class. Unique classes require 2x more xp to level up than regular classes.

Each new class increases the xp necessary for leveling up compared to the previous one.]

[Inventory - No longer will the user have to worry about storing their items as the Inventory is an infinite space where they may store anything that is not a sentient organism.]

[Item drops - Defeated enemies will now drop loot for the user to pick up. Dropped items may include money, skill books, equipment, materials, and more.

Money that has been dropped by the enemies will always be completely clean. Nobody will question where it came from, even if you wish to put billions of dollars on a bank account all at once.]

[Training - The user can now increase their stats by doing relevant training. The user should find out more by experimenting with different training methods.]

[Settings - A settings page has been added to let the user customize their experience, please explore for specifics by yourself.]

[Bug Fixes]

[Spider-Sense - This skill was not functioning properly in the previous versions. This has been rectified in this update.]

[Skill experience - Some skills gained experience much faster than they were meant to, while others were gaining experience too slowly. Some re-balancing has been done.]

[Experience - From now on experience is gained all at once at the end of the fight rather than after the defeat of each individual enemy]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Please look forward to further updates in the future.]

I read through the entire changelog, and damn, there are a lot of new things to check out. Perhaps I was too harsh on this system before.

Starting from the top, classes had been added. Well, I technically already had a class, but I guess unique classes were already secretly implemented earlier, it would have sucked to have been bitten by the spider but not get a class.

That line about each new class increasing the xp requirement for leveling up scares me a little. Once I finish with my Spiderman class, I will pick whatever class gives me the most intelligence to hopefully balance it out and stay ahead of the curve.

Inventory is rather useful, I can keep my suit and web-shooters in there for whenever I need them. Unfortunately, the update didn't add an equipment menu, so I still have to manually change into them.

Moving on to item drops, I'm actually glad they weren't in before because I completely forgot to check for any drops yesterday after defeating kingpin's men at the building lot. This should solve all my money problems for the future as I was planning to get an apartment closer to the city center anyways.

People not questioning where money generated by the system comes from will also help out in my future plans. Wait, do I have to worry about inflation, god I hope not.

Depending on how much money enemies drop, I could potentially buy out Oscorp and Stark Industries completely when their stocks fall, which they surely will if Norman becomes and is revealed to be the green goblin or whenever Tony stops producing weapons.

I will leave training for later as that is the most exciting feature added, in my opinion. Instead, I take a look at the settings page.

There are several options that I can see, but the first one I look for is the one that turns of the 'DING' noise to save my ears. I can see options for visual changes to the system windows, but I don't really care about that, so I ignore them.

There is also an option for difficulty. I seem to currently be on normal, but there are also easy, hard, and nightmare difficulties. Trying to change the difficulty, I get a message that the difficulty can only be chosen when starting the game. In conclusion, I'm stuck on normal, which isn't too bad, even if I would rather be on easy.

The bug fixes aren't too exciting either. Looking at the first one, I guess I now know why spider-sense failed to trigger yesterday when I got smashed with that baseball bat. The second one is a bit more worrying, it really doesn't tell me what was changed or by how much.

With all that out of the way, I now look at training which coincides with my plans for today anyway. While fighting yesterday, I realized that I have no chance to beat someone in an equal fight. The only reason I am even alive now is thanks to my webs and skills.

I get out of bed and start doing push-ups, trying to determine how long it would take me to gain even one point. If I could stay ahead of all enemies in terms of stats, I would never even have to take an equal fight as I could just overpower them.

Thanks to the system and my 300 stamina points, I am able to go on for much longer than I thought before having to rest. In the end, it takes me about 15 minutes, not counting a 10-minute break in the middle, of just doing pushups to get the notification I was waiting for.

[Strength has been increased by 1]

That really isn't a bad result, 15 minutes for one point means I could potentially gain over 50 points after one day of training. That is, of course, only if gaining points remains so easy, which it won't. Also, there is the resting time which I didn't factor into that 15 minutes.

------------------------------

[New Repeatable Quest - Training]

[Description - Do 100 situps, 100 pushups, 100 squats, and run for 10 kilometers. Quest can be completed every day.]

[Reward - 3 Free Stat Points]

------------------------------

Is that one punch man's routine? As soon as I finished my workout, this quest popped up out of nowhere it's great for me, but I better not go bald from this. I close the quest notification, for now, I will have plenty of time to complete that later.

Despite this unexpected system update, I'm going to continue with the plan I had for today, which is finding some sort of dojo or training hall. In fact, the system update makes this a lot more efficient as I can up my stats through training at the same time while also learning how to fight.

I get up from the ground and turn on my computer to search for local training halls. At first, I was surprised about how many of them there are, but I suppose it makes sense seeing how much crime there is in the city, probably a big market for people who want to learn self-defense.

I look through many of them, reading their reviews and trying to find a good one until one catches my attention, Fogwell's Gym. It's low profile with not many reviews, but the name seems somewhat familiar to me.

Looking into their website, they offer self-defense classes focused on boxing and some mixed martial arts. What really caught my eyes was the trainer there, Jack Murdock.

Jack Murdock is the father of Matt Murdock, more commonly known as Daredevil. His schedule tells me he is quite a hard worker as he is available every day of the week, seemingly spending his whole life living in the gym.

With no hesitation, I sign up for his training, writing that I am coming over straight away. Hopefully, he will see my message before I arrive there. Maybe I can even get a quest to save his life, though I have no clue what kind of butterfly effect that would have for daredevil becoming a thing.

I pack my backpack with a towel and some workout clothes, heading downstairs where aunt May demands I have some breakfast before leaving. I eat my sandwich at breakneck speeds and say bye to her before exiting to catch the earliest bus possible.
