1 Chapter 1: LA it is!
Inaaya's POV
As I look at the clouds beneath me out of the small window beside my seat on my flight to Los Angeles, California, I cannot contain the excitement and eagerness I have in me for what's stored for me in these next three months. I have been looking forward to this time throughout my very boring and hectic semester. Two more semesters to go! I can do this.
This idea brewed in my head while I was sitting in my dorm room talking to my sister Anya about how boring my college life has become and how I desperately needed a change of scenario. I was telling her about how I have to do a compulsory corporate internship before the beginning of my fourth and the last year at the university before I finally get the piece of paper which would help me make people believe that I am smart enough, also known as a Degree. I still remember our conversation and how we came up with this plan.
"Anya, I cannot believe what all I have to do to get a degree. I am so fed up with this already, I need a change of scenery. My life has become so monotonous and that coming from me says a lot!" I frustratedly told my cousin Anya who happens to be 6 years older than me. She has been living in Los Angeles with her husband for two years now and she works as a software engineer at a big firm in the downtown.
"Why are you so frustrated? What's the matter? Also if you need a change of scenery you are always welcomed here, it would also save me and Jay the trouble of finding a babysitter for Liam. God! It's so hard to find a good babysitter nowadays!" Said my sister while holding her sleeping four months old son Liam with one hand as he rests his head on her shoulder. I could see my brother in law coming into the frame and taking the phone from my sister.
"You should come to California for your summer break this time. It would be a nice break for you, we can go around many places here, you can bond with Liam. It will be fun" said my brother in law jay.
"I wish it was that easy! Who doesn't want to spend their summer tanning at the Californian beach! But I am supposed to do a stupid three months internship this summer if i want a degree." I said to jay. I have always been very close to the two of them. They have always been like a second family to me always and I miss them a lot. I wish I could go and visit them this summer and also meet my little nephew as well.
"Hey, why don't you do that here." said my sister. I gave her a 'I don't know which THAT you are mentioning' look.
"I mean why don't you do your internship here in Los Angeles instead of India. That way you can get a change of scenery, spend your summer with us and also make sure that you can still get a degree." Explained Anya. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made and the more pleasing the idea became.
"My firm offers three months summer internships to freshers and I think you should apply for it." Added Anya.
So long story short, I applied for the summer internship program at Evans holdings and luckily got selected for that. After convincing my parents, which was very easy considering I would be living with my sister and brother in law, going through all the formalities, here I am on a flight to Los Angeles.
California has always been my dream place to settle down. I have always loved beaches and what better place than California to stay closer to the waters! I am also very excited for this internship. Working as a finance intern in the company as big as Evans Holdings will give me a lot of insights on how the finances of such a massive company works. I am looking forward to a lot of learning. I have always wanted to become a successful entrepreneur, even though my father owns a well established firm, I have always wanted to make something of my own and I believe this exposure will give me a lot of learnings and insights to establish my own business.
After 20 hours of flying I finally arrived at the LAX, going out I was immediately attacked by the suffocating embrace of my sister. " i mean i understand that you have missed me dearly but jeez you don't have to kill me by suffocating me like this!" I exclaimed with tears in my eyes. Damn I missed her so much. She chuckled and with tears in her eyes loosened her death grip on me.
"It is so good to have you here. We missed you a lot" Jay said while hugging me. It has just been 5 minutes of me being here in LA and I am already happier than I have been in a very long time.
"It is so good to be here '' I told Jay while breaking the hug and taking the little bean Liam in my arms. Oh my goodness he is so small and beautiful. I spent the whole journey to my sister's home thinking how amazing these three months are going to be.
After reaching their home which is a nice two bedroom apartment, i started to unpack my stuff but then realised that I am too tired to do that and I am supposed to start my internship tomorrow so I decided to just unpack the stuff I will require for my first day of work before taking a long shower and retired to bed.
