Chapter 24: The Unraveling Trial II

"I sentence you to be the mentor of Caroline Forbes and teach her about our world and how to live as a vampire. You shall essentially be the bodyguard of Caroline and Rebekah."

"Why the hell do I need a bodyguard?"

"Well, Bekah, after a thousand years, I have come to the conclusion that even though we are your brothers, you don't have your own Valkyries by your side as a queen of vampires should; hence, she will be the lynchpin, as she has been treacherous for half a millennium and has been tricked many times in her life. As she was alone, she will have her own unique perspective, and she was in Chicago to look after her progeny ripper when he was gallivanting with you. Am I wrong, Katerina?"

Rebekah and Klaus shouted, "WHAT!!!!"

"Yes, I found out recently, so am I right, Kitkat?"

Katherine, with a smug expression, said, "Oh, I was there at their stint at Gloria's; it was a cozy place. I was feeling very daring at the time. I was two streets out, always checking them. I left after Mikael ambushed them."

After hearing this, Klaus was bewildered, and Kol was laughing boisterously.

"See, she will be a fine Mikaelson, so Kitkat, you have my blessings to court my stick-up-his-ass elder brother. So, Nik?" asked Kol, turning towards Klaus.

"Fine, fine, she is pardoned of all her crimes, but she will be hunted by you if she commits any crime against our family from now on."

Kol gave a predatory smile as Elijah put himself between them and Katherine.

"Why, Elijah, you don't have to worry. I will only hunt if any harm falls on the family because of her. I will be gifting her to Bekah, and she can get out of her for not torturing anyone for the past century or so."

To which Rebekah also had a smile and said, "Fine," and with a huff, started leaving while muttering stupid brothers and with a small smile, called Katherine to follow her.

"Let the idiots talk amongst themselves; we have a ball to prepare for."

"Are you sure about this?" asked Klaus to Kol.

To which Kol answered, "Look, Nik, we have been surviving for a thousand years. We have maybe lived a very few hundred years in that millennium. Now that our monster of a father is put down, it's time to live our lives, and I don't mean become meek and sheltered, but have a life to go on to live tomorrow. Ah, enough of this mushy stuff. I have a dog to teach manners to," and Kol took a rum bottle and left the parlor.

Elijah had a very neutral expression.

"Thank you, Niklaus. I know I have to thank Nikola as well, but I think he will escape before I even express gratitude."

"No need, Elijah. Kol is Kol. We know him. This is the Kol of 1000 years ago. We have to adjust as such. I am just worried he will start searching for a farm and start living there while making some magical experiments and leaving us."

"It will not happen. Niklaus, do not worry," assured Elijah.
