Chapter 20: Arrival

"Check his condition," said Chad.

Following the orders, Rain approached the man and kicked his leg. After showing some movement, the man sat up and opened his eyes. This man was Alex, who had arrived in the Resident Evil world through world travel.

"Where am I?" asked Alex, rubbing his eyes and still feeling somewhat sleepy.

"You are in the Umbrella Hive Laboratory," said Chad.

"Who are you?" asked Rain, pointing a gun at him.

This man appeared out of nowhere, and she had to be cautious when dealing with someone of an unknown origin.

Hearing that, Alex thought, 'So I came to Resident Evil. I didn't watch the last movie, so I don't know how the virus destroyed. I'm in the hive where everything began, and Alice is here, my favorite actor.'

Alex was a big fan of Alice, fascinated by her fighting skills and acting in the movie.

"Answer our questions: Who are you and how did you get here?" asked Chad.

"My name is Alex. I came here for fun," said Alex.

"For fun? You came to a place like this?" asked Rain with a confused expression.

"Yes."

Rain wondered why a sane person would come to these eerie laboratories for fun, and now she was certain that this man was not normal.

"So, Alex, how did you get here?" asked Alice. Since all the doors were closed, she wondered how this man had entered the building.

"Well, nothing. I just got dragged here by something," Alex replied, unable to disclose that the system had brought him here.

"Don't joke, or you'll get a bullet in your head," said Rain, pointing the gun at Alex.

"Haha, do you think guns can kill me? And you should worry about yourself. You're going to die," said Alex with a smile.

"Are you threatening me?" asked Rain with a dangerous glint in his eyes.

"No, the virus in your body will kill you."

"I'm gonna kill you!" said Rain, seething with anger.

But Chad intervened and said, "How do you know she's infected with a virus?"

"For answers, you can ask the Red Queen," said Alex, as he was too lazy to explain it.

Hearing that, Chad went to the Red Queen computer and activated it. After completing the necessary steps, everyone remained alert in front of the Red Queen.

"Okay, if I press this button now, she won't be able to close again. Just wait to be scorched!"

Alex approached Alice and said, "Hello, my name is Alex. May I know your beautiful name?"

"Hello, my name is Alice."

"May I know if you have time for a cup of coffee?"

"If not coffee, dinner is not a problem," said Alex with a smile.

"Ugh, can I answer that after we escape from here?" said Alice. The situation was pretty dangerous, and she wondered why this man was asking her out on a date.

"You asshole, why are you smiling and trying to get in her pants when we are in danger?" said Rain.

"I am not in danger. Even if this lab explodes, I will not die," replied Alex.

"Guys, I am activating the Red Queen," said Chad.

It was natural to have a bargaining chip on hand before asking the Red Queen about the exit, Chad made some preparations. If the Red Queen went out of control, they could choose to destroy her.

"Buzz!"

As the system started, a sudden red light flashed in front of everyone.

The image of the Red Queen appeared only for a moment and then disappeared, startling everyone.

"Starting the power may burn out the circuit board," Chad explained.

{What! It turns out that you're still alive?}

Although the image of the Red Queen didn't successfully project, her voice still rang from the speakers. Apparently, she had successfully activated.

The Red Queen seemed to have emotions. As soon as she appeared, she immediately switched to mocking mode.

{I told you a long time ago, don't shut me down. Now it's alright, I'm happy!}

"Give me that control button. I'm going to burn your ass."

Seeing the computer host mocking them, Renne was the first to hold back. He went to grab the control button and destroy the gloating computer host.

The others quickly restrained him.

{Didn't I warn you?}

The Red Queen expressed her innocence. She had warned them from the beginning that they were being disobedient and insisted on shutting her down. Now the situation was out of control. They could only blame themselves.

"What the hell is going on here?" asked Alice.

{Research and development of viruses.}

The Red Queen didn't hide it and said.

"What is the T virus?" asked Matt.

Matt's purpose in coming here was to find evidence of the Umbrella Company's illegal virus research. He wanted to know what this T virus was and why it turned people into walking dead.

{The T virus is a major breakthrough in medical science, and it can also become an expensive military weapon.}

The Red Queen hid nothing, and explained that when the T virus was first studied, it was used to treat terminal illnesses.

However, the sharper the sword, the more of a threat it becomes to everyone. It becomes possible to save lives and take lives. Some used it to cure diseases, while others use it for killing.

"Then what does this have to do with those things outside?"

Chad looked puzzled. Didn't they say this virus was a medicine for curing diseases? How did it result in a bunch of man-eating monsters?

{Even when people are dead, their bodies remain alive, with hair and nails growing and cell metabolism continuing.}

{And the brain still keeps a small amount of electric charge, which doesn't disappear until a few months later.}

{The T virus can generate massive shockwaves to keep cells growing and track the energy of electrical pulses.}

{In short, it can resurrect the dead.}

The Red Queen continued her explanation.

"You call that resurrection?" asked Alice, thinking of the mindless monsters.

Upon hearing the Red Queen's explanation, Rain had a powerful urge to kick the Red Queen. This virus had created a bunch of cannibalistic monsters, and it didn't look like proper resurrection at all.

Okay, more like a resurrection.

{It's not complete. They only have basic mobility, and a bit of memory. Theoretically, they don't possess any intelligence.}

{They are driven by the most basic nerve impulses and fundamental needs.}

"What do you mean?" Chad asked.

{Eat.}

"What do they eat?" asked Alice.

{Human flesh.}

"Why did you close the entrance to the lab?" asked Matt.

Although Spence released the virus, he didn't understand why the Red Queen killed everyone. If the Red Queen hadn't blocked the base, his sister could have escaped.

{The virus invaded the ventilation system. It spread uncontrollably, activating the highest safety protocols.}

{The virus has evolved from the original liquid state to a gaseous state, and can now transmit through blood.}

{It can even adapt and survive in various environments. The virus has reached a point where it won't stop. I refuse to let it spread any further.}

{So, I did what no-one else can; I did what was necessary.}

"What was necessary?"

Matt continued.

{Infected humans, I will never let them go.}

{Even a mere scratch can infect you. You will become like them.}

"But you failed, Red Queen. The virus has already escaped the Hive," Alex said.
