Chapter 5 Diagon Alley

They always talk about how apperation felt like being shoved through a straw and oh were they right. I immediately fell over as we appeared in a small grubby-looking pub. Trying to hold back the nausea I look around the room and wonder to myself why they don't just clean it with magic all it would take is a few seconds and a flick of the wand.

"Don't worry, it gets better the more you do it." Professor McGonagall says as she helps me up off the dirty floor. "Finally, I've always wanted to come here," I say as she pulls me along to a door behind the bar.

"Hello Tom," I say to the man behind the bar an average-looking, bald man with blue eyes. He waves at me as we pass through the door, opening up to a chilly courtyard and the wall to Diagon Alley.

"It's from the rubbish bin, three up and two across in case you forgot Minerva" she looks at me still wondering how I should know any of this. 'I'll have to talk to Dumbledore about this strange boy' she thinks to herself.

"It's Professor McGonagall and this is the last time I'll say it, Mr. Willams," she says as she sighs and walks ok to the wall tapping on the brick. All the bricks quickly rearrange in a sort of doorway we can walk through.

As we enter the wall and then re-arranged back to the original wall. Inside the Alley was an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sights; some even had tables out front with colored umbrellas.

"Wow," I say with wide eyes almost speechless at the sight of it all. "Let's move along Mr. Willams," she said pulling me from my thoughts. "Off to Gringotts Wizarding Bank so we can get money from the Hogwarts fund because I don't have any money?" I say with a smile on my face. Which just seems creepy at this point knowing things no muggle-born should know.

"Yes, Mr. Willams right yet again," she says while speeding up hoping to finish quickly. In the distance, we see a large multistoried white building, near the intersection of Knockturn Alley and Diagon Alley, that towers over all neighboring shops. Getting closer I see an inscription on the large set of bronze doors with two scary-looking goblins in uniforms of scarlet and gold on either side.

'Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.'

Then passing a set of silver doors before entering the lobby; the floor is paved with marble and had long counters stretching along its length with goblins sitting at them; lines of witches and wizards waiting in line. Getting into line it's a few minutes before we arrive at the front.

Behind the counter was a short male goblin about 48 inches in height with silver hair on his dome-shaped head, yellow eyes, and long fingers with a name tag that read 'Griphook'. "Greetings master goblin may the blood of your enemies flow in a river and may gold flow in abundance towards your vaults, " I say slightly bowing to him. Knowing I should make a good first impression since they controlled the wizarding economy to a large extent due to their skills with money and finances. "And may the bodies of enemies fall under the edge of your sword and may there never be a lack of gold in your vaults young wizard," Griphook said with a huge grin that covered most of his face.

"Griphook we're here to access the Hogwarts school funds," Professor McGonagall said our ignoring the conversation. "Key, please," the goblin said as Professor McGonagall handed over the beautiful golden key with a brass-plated keyring having an antique effect and a bespoke design on the key's handle.

Taking the key he closely inspects it before calling a similar-looking goblin from the back. 'I feel like I'm being racist but they do look the same' I thought to take us to the vault. Entering a small room off to the side with a rail track in the middle. The Goblin whistled and a small cart came hurtling up the tracks toward us. Getting in the cart just it immediately began hurtling through a maze of twisting passages, before arriving at the vault. They got out while I waited in the cart since I didn't have access to the vault.

Then we made our way back through all the same twists and turns we made before arriving make in the room we started in. Then Professor McGonagall and I made our way out of the bank. "here are 7 galleons use this to go buy your wand and nothing else. I will handle the rest of your supplies." she said in a stern yet commanding voice. "Anything for you Minerva," I say childish tone as I take off jogging in the direction she pointed, excited to get my wand.
