First Day

So today is my first day at the journaling studio. Granted that I'm starting out as a bottom feeding intern-- it's still something right?

*Buzz Buzz* The vibration of my phone startled me for a second so I clicked it open.

'Good luck on your first day. Would appreciate it if you could join us for dinner tonight. -Dad'

Yeah, right. Join you and the step monster. I clicked the phone back to locked mode and picked up my satchel.

Sara was trudging into the kitchen of our two bedroom apartment with her lipstick smeared.

"Rough night?" I questioned her as I gave her some Tylenol.

"The only thing that was rough about it was trying to get my one night stand to go home. Needless to say...he's snoring up my bedroom." She sniffles and took the medicine like candy.

"Well..." I didn't even have a decent response for her. "See ya later." I locked the door on the way out.

"It's good to see you again." Sam approached me at my reasonably sized desk for an intern.

"Thanks again for this job. I'm sorry for what I said last week, about being the CEOs daughter." I felt ashamed for acting like that because I know that isn't how I wanted to get the job.

"No worries Stamford." He smiled, pleased with the nickname he gave her. "You can make it up by shredding these newspapers." He picked up a box and placed it on my desk.

"We decided to go a different route for the newspaper this week so.." His crystal green eyes blinked as he clicked his tongue.

"Get to shredding." He shot me a wink and patted the box.

"Wait what.." I sighed as he walked away. I should be learning, not doing the dirty work of an....intern.

I groaned and opened the box to begin my task. As I was shredding the papers a familiar voice shook me from behind.

A deep sigh surrounded me. "Excuse me, but what exactly are you doing here?"

I turn around instantly and stare helplessly.

Shit, I thought. Now I was in huge trouble. I basically took a job without him knowing and now he's going to fire me.

"Um.." Was all I could manage to sputter out.

Nolan Moore stood there with one hand in his pocket and the other hand holding a mug with black coffee. He was wearing a gray suit with a black tie but the suit seemed to be tailored specifically for his body. It was slim and hugged the muscular parts.

His charcoal hair was curved like a wave to the slide of his head while the rest of his hair was shaved short around the edges.

He made me nervous. So nervous that I couldn't even speak for myself. What was wrong with me? I felt oddly attractive to this devilish man. The man that was extremely rude the week before.

"I said what are you doing here? Are you deaf?" He cocked his head to the side.

"No.." I finally said. "I work here." I forced out a grin.

"No you don't. I told you to go home last week. Should I call security?" His voice was so dominating and powerful that I actually felt afraid of him.

I fluttered my eyes, appalled that he would call security. Did Sam not inform him of hiring me? Either way, I didn't want to leave now.

"Ah, Nolan." Another familiar voice crepted up behind me.

"Sam." Nolan only nodded, "I'm just trying to get this women out of the office."

"I hired her." He said plainly with a smile. He was peeling an orange while leaning against the door frame.

"She's my new intern. I figured that she should learn the rope of things." Sam gave him a smirk as if he intentionally enjoys to see Nolan irritated.

Nolan winced before breaking his gaze on me. I could feel the hated from way over here.

"You may run the writing staff, but I am still head of this office. If she screws up, it'll be on your head as well." Nolan turned around and went back to his office.

I on the other hand was shaking in my chair, "Is he always that intimidating?" I look over to Sam.

"Only to the people that intimidate him." Sam smirked and pointed to the box, "chop, chop. Need those papers shredded by lunch time."

By the time lunch came around I was finally finished shredding the newspapers. All the while I couldn't stop thinking about why Nolan Moore hated me so much. Did I intimidate him? Or maybe Sam is the one who intimidates him.

"Knock knock", Sam tapped on my desk which subsequently snapped me from my trance.

"Oh, hey." I stand up from the chair.

"The writing staff is heading out for lunch, do you want to come with?" He looked at me hopeful that I'd join him.

"No thanks, I need some coffee fuel from all that shredding. Maybe next time?" I look at him apologetically.

"Suit yourself." He spun around and left the office.

I head to the mutual meeting ground of the editing staff and the writing staff-- the break room. There was a pot of coffee already brewing and a man sat in the corners table holding the newspaper from today. Of coarse, it's Nolan Moore. Should I leave? I didn't want another awkward encounter to where I was practically insulted again.

No. No I won't let a man get to me and my confidence! I am an educated, independent woman who can stand her own. If I want some coffee, I'll get it!

I cautiously take a disposal paper coffee cup and head over to the coffee pot. As soon as I set the pot back down, Nolan moves the newspaper onto to the table. I could feel his eyes burning through the back of my head.

"Around here we ask if the coffee brewing is for anybody else." He eyes me, pursing his lips slightly.

"I-I'm sorry.. I just..thought...that the uh.. coffee was for anyone.." I began to nervously rip open packets of sugar, refusing to look up at him.

Suddenly a warm hand was on top of mine while I was pouring the sugar out.

"I never said you could have any coffee." His stern, husky voice towered over me.

I reluctantly look up to see his face leaned in over mine as if he was going to kiss me.

"I'm...sorry..?" I questionably speak, my voice cracking a little.

"Now that doesn't sound sincere." He smirks then lets go of my hand.

"I guess the princess should get what she wants", he allows me to keep the coffee. What is up with them giving me nicknames?

And just like that, I felt myself standing my ground again.

"Look, I don't know what you have against me, but it needs to stop." I boldly speak up, gripping my coffee cup.

As a response, his muscular arm was wrapped around my waist as his free hand cupped the base of my chin. His caramel eyes melted me for that one moment. I think I actually wanted him to kiss me.

Wait what? No I don't! I barely know this man not to mention he's my boss!

"If I wanted you gone, I would have you gone in an instant. Maybe I want you here more than you think." His lips curled into a smile. He let go of me as soon as he could and left the room.

I stood there in awe and dropped my coffee cup. "What in the hell.."
