Haunt You to Bring Me Back to Life

After saving his rest week, Ainsley sighed and properly ended their conversation. For some reason, he caught himself grinning widely upon hearing his nickname. Like a spoiled brat, he knew it meant something every time that nickname came up like that. This time, Sinclair might buy him some feast. After all, he beat death.

He then placed down the service phone and lied down on his bed. He didn't have anything to do in the hospital, but he was looking forward to that one-week break he was given. After all, he needed some time to recuperate indeed. It wasn't a surgery; it was a deadly accident.

Outside the ward lined people in black. The media men were not allowed to enter the room just to interview Ainsley. Unknown to the survivor, the one that ran over him that night was a fugitive that had his car crashing again and again that the headlights broke. Since Ainsley was drunk, he didn't hear the police siren that followed.

Moreover, the insiders also learned that the survivor healed overnight. Even if it could be a separate scoop, the mere fact that it happened together was enough for them to get nosy. However, the bodyguards actually stood in their way, literally. They couldn't help but find a way to get quotes some other way.

Some had left, while some had stayed; as if predators lying in wait for their prey. The bodyguards wouldn't stop them from speaking to the others going in and out of the room, right? So when the night fell, they were only invigorated when someone walked the hallway alone. The person was not a nurse or a doctor, but someone of high standing. It was Sinclair King, the CEO of King Industries!

"Mr. King! Mr. King! Why are you here to visit Mr. Leneghan? Is it true that the fugitive was a former employee of your company? Was there really embezzlement that happened? Mr. King, why are you here after working hours? How are you related to Mr. Leneghan?!"

The cacophony of voices and questions only annoyed the dragon. However, he was like the strongest steel that didn't seem to be bothered by them. He only stopped to turn to the reporters when he was already within reach of the bodyguards. "I only came here because Mr. Leneghan is my office's employee. I am not a free person, so I came after finishing work. Please don't dare to speak any more stupid questions."

He then turned to the bodyguards. "I don't want them here. Chase them out."

After the bodyguards made way for their boss, the leader called in the security of the hospital. Since the King family was a big investor in the hospital, they quickly responded to the call. The media men dispersed on their own, only feeling wronged by the CEO. They were shooed away like flies. They planned for contingencies as they were all escorted out by the security.

Inside the room, Sinclair cast his gaze at the patient that was heartily eating the food sent to him earlier. He figured that Ainsley would need to replenish all the energy that his body spent to recuperate, along with convening with the dragon's heart. The miracle seemed to be taking a toll on Ainsley's hunger that he was eating a serving for five people.

"Sinco!" Ainsley still had his manners as he patted his lips and chin clean with the napkin. He then smiled and beckoned his friend to join him. "These meals are so good! We should go to the restaurant and eat sometime! Oh, are you going out this weekend? Since you gave me a week, I thought of getting fresh air… outside the city of course. Let's go trekking!"

"How are those connected to the word 'rest'?" Sinclair frowned as he sat down on the edge of the bed. He then received a box of buns from Ainsley, and he opened it. Half of the buns were gone, but it was the same for everything else. Even if these were all bought for Ainsley, he was still saving some for Sinclair. "I told you to rest, Ainsley."

Ainsley only pouted. "You did, but if you're not my boss, I'll still brag about my leave to you and invite you nonetheless." He then took a bite from the pizza he was eating before speaking again. "Did you know what happened to me? Did the hospital send a report?"

At those words, Sinclair only nodded while grumbling with half a bun in his mouth. Since it was just the two of them in the room, he felt free to act like a normal person. After all, everything had its place for someone like Sinclair. "Are you proud of your miracle?"

"Not really. I would have if I knew what happened. Still, I feel happy about it. Imagine if I really died? Man, that's so scary. If I can't haunt you to bring me back to life, that's no fun." Ainsley kept on talking after taking a few bites from his double-cheese meat pizza. He didn't even realize that Sinclair's hand slowed down and that his eyes stared at the patient.

A small smile curled Sinclair's lips. 'Of course, I know you want to be kept alive if given a choice. I just don't know if you can accept that it was at the expense of my life. You didn't have to turn into an ugly ghost and haunt me… as if I can't haunt myself.'

He then lowered his face and hid his expression when Ainsley turned to him again. "Oh, yeah, Sinco, I heard from the nurses that a lot of people are going down with some kind of disease these days. Do you know what it's about?"

"It's the same one that hit the fugitive soon enough. I have no idea where it came from, but you're as safe as you can be. Don't bother about anything else." Sinclair sighed as he finished the buns in the box. He then stopped his hand again and looked at Ainsley who was opening another box of food. "Leo, don't be surprised, but in the time you're here… seven people on the CEO floor had been afflicted by it. It's best to stay indoors."
