13 Chapter 12 - New Ability?

As she skimmed through the pages— she came to learn a lot about herself that the scientists had learned throughout the years and recorded.

Some of which she had already known thanks to the help of the information panel— such as being a half-blood, her animal species being a serpent, and her darkness ability.

While others she didn't know about at all.

Such as being able to shed old skin in order to have new and uninjured skin take its place, which they came to find out after 'accidentally' hurting her.

Or that when she was younger, her body used to automatically turn scaly in order to defend herself without her will being the trigger of it.

The notes even said that her scales were so strong they bent the needles they tried to use on her, causing them to have to use more drastic means of collecting samples.

Such as magic.

Which her body reacted oddly to apparently— according to the notes.

On one of the pages, the writer went on to explain how they attempted to use magic on her body to collect blood samples, but due to an odd case with her blood the magic went haywire and ended up canceling.

She couldn't explain why this was— nor could the researchers apparently— because the notes ended with them having to postpone it until further notice.

Which would never come because she woke up eventually.

But this note alone made her rather curious. If her body reacted to magic in a weird way, would that affect her ability to do magic?

She was after all still a wizard— by blood.

So would she be able to use her magic even with her blood showing signs of disrupting magic— or would that limit her to not being able to use magic at all?

If not it would be a huge problem for her with her plans of getting into Hogwarts— where she would most likely need magic.

A lot.

If she couldn't use the magic of this world she would have to adapt and learn other means to get stronger.

To survive.

If need be, she would solely rely on her ability over darkness in order to get by. Perfecting it to the point where she wouldn't need other abilities.

And while that wasn't what she wanted— she would have to make do with what she had if it came down to it.

On top of that, the fact that her body made magic react oddly was something she could use in the future to do stuff.

What exactly, she wasn't sure, but she was sure it could be of use.

Especially if she could imbue that effect into her darkness.

Or maybe she already had?

She did find it strange that a wizard would have his door locked by normal means.

But what if it wasn't?

What if she used this weird ability in her darkness in order to break the spell on the door— without even realizing it since she couldn't sense magic.

Maybe this would be a lot more useful than she thought.

But all of that didn't matter since she wasn't sure if she could use magic or not— or if the effect still happened since she woke up.

Which was why she would have to test it out soon— which made her move forward her plans to get access to spells.

That wasn't even all the interesting information the book had to offer.

It went into a lot of detail about the nine years she was unconscious.

Other information in the book was more so about her general history— stuff about researching her parentage and bloodline.

Which is how they came to the conclusion that she was the child of Voldemort and Nagini.

This proves she was a half-blood— in a sense.

Another interesting bit of information that was recorded, was her appearance. Since she looked very little like her parents— with her long extremely black hair, golden eyes, and milky skin.

They came up with theories about it being due to her mixed blood— or the way she was born. But she knew it was more likely due to her control over darkness changing her very body.

When she finished reading through the book and storing the important information in her mind for later— she realize that she only had 5 minutes to return to her room before the strain started kicking in.

So she had no time to read the other files in the cabinets— causing her to click her tongue in annoyance.

Moving the book back into the position it was before— she remembered to be as careful as possible since she didn't want the owner to realize it was out of place.

She already expected him to know someone broke in or at least suspect it since she assumed the magic on his door was broken.

She just hoped it wouldn't be linked to her.

Either way, she had to hurry up, so she quickly left the room and didn't lock it as she did.

The reason she didn't lock it wasn't complicated.

She knew locking it would be better if there wasn't any magic on the door— that way the likelihood that someone finding out she broke in would drop.

But what wizard didn't have magic on their locked door?

So she came up with a simple idea.

Why not try to make it seem like they forgot to lock it.

She knew it was a terrible idea— especially with the fact that the person that owned the room was a neat freak— but she honestly thought it was better than trying to pretend the door wasn't tampered with at all.

This way, the person would at least have doubts about if they did it or not and stop looking for the culprit quickly when they can't find one.

That wasn't to say this plan had no flaws, she knew all the flaws— and she knew that if it failed she would be outed and would have to solve yet another issue.

She could very well die. Again.

But she was ready for death the second she woke up in this world.

Her last life wasn't any good, and this life was just something she was planning to enjoy the best she could— failing early would just be a disappointing stop to that.

But such thoughts did her no good, so she left the room and made her way back to her own room in order to do some replanning and thinking.

And since her room wasn't too far away, she quickly got to it and settled down in her bed in the place of the illusion.

Pretending to be asleep.

After which, she made sure to turn all her other running abilities off, such as the cloaking and illusions, so that they wouldn't further drain her.

The relief that came once she did that was truly amazing— something she wouldn't have expected.

It seems that slowly building up the strain on her body and mind made it so she didn't realize it sooner, but the strain was quite substantial.

It was like a weight suddenly being lifted off her shoulders, making her instantly feel sleepy.

So she decided to take a short nap, falling asleep on the bed she laid on.
