Chapter 1

" I never wanted to end up with you of all people." Spencer rolls his eyes. I have the unfortunate luck of being with my bully of all people during a bloody apocalypse. The last person you want to be with. I have never felt so alone in a world that makes so sense anymore. The world was hit by a zombie apocalypse. It is not known what caused the apocalypse but the result was disastrous. Billions have lost their lives or have become infected. I call the zombies zombie mutants because some of them don't look like normal zombies plus some of them look like mutants. Here is my list of reasons why I call them that. 1. They look like mutants( obviously) 2. It seems as if they were exposed to radiation. 3. Some look different from each other. Some of them have sharp claws, some have Razer teeth, one of them I saw was a bit bigger than the rest. 4. I have seen mutants in video games and they look similar but they are zombies which confuses me. I am nineteen years old with black hair, brown eyes, and sort of tall with glasses. My nose is slightly big. Spencer is the same age but more muscular, curly short hair and tall. We are the only ones on the universality campus. Everyone fled to an unknown destination. I wish I could repeat the last few days I had before the outbreak but that is wishful thinking. " Hey, believe it or not, but I am all you got. Plus you are defiantly not a fighter." I sigh and get up. The library window is my source of finding out what is happening in the world. Spencer says that it is a waste of time. What does he know? Nothing. I smirk. I see the occasional mutant in the street but I haven't seen much lately. They are out there I am sure, waiting to lure us out like prey before eating or infecting us. We will eventually have to go outside. The university's food supply is running low, a reminder that we are still human. We still need to eat, drink, breathe, wash amongst other things. The university is empty which is completely ironic. I would think that the smart thing to do is to remain in a building during the beginning stages of an apocalypse but people had families to go to. I wish I had that luxury. I had a rather strange upbringing. My parents work for a traveling company and I would normally always be at home with my temporary guardian. Then one day, they went missing. I sometimes hold a candle of hope that they are still alive but I know better than to grab a loose thread of hope. My guardian's name is Mary. She is in her late fifties. She can be stern but she was a lot of fun to be around. I look at Spencer. He eyes me. " What's wrong Andrew?" I don't know what is wrong. It might be my grudge towards him. I know I despise him but I even need someone to talk to. " Spencer, when I leave, where are you going?" The thought of leaving Spencer fills me with happiness.

Spencer shakes his head. " I am following you. Do you think I am going to be alone in an apocalyptic world? No thanks." I frown. Why would Spencer not want to be alone in an apocalypse? Surely he could make it. I imagine Spencer if he was alone. He would be killing zombie mutants no doubt. Probably make it his life mission to kill every zombie mutant. Nothing makes sense with Spencer. Never has, never will. " Andrew, do you think you will survive on your own? No offense." I am surprised. Did Spencer just try to be nice? They say bullies change some of the time but I doubt Spencer will. " I have a chance to survive like anyone else thanks." Spencer puts his arms in the air in mock defeat while also rolling his eyes. I am frustrated. I want to leave but I am scared at the same time. I want to rip my hair out. Spencer starts fiddling with the radio. Just as a sign to tell me to calm down, the radio starts working. A voice can be heard. " are you out there? Are there any survivors? If you are listening, we have news. All may seem lost but that is not true. We have built a sanctuary in the forest of Hooper. Any survivors out there need your help to rebuild society. Please come if you can. We have lost many but we still have a chance of becoming a society once again." The radio operator repeats the message two more times before ending. Spencer looks at me and says " we are going."
