4 Chapter 2

It felt like I had just closed my eyes as soon as my alarm clock on my phone went off, letting me know it was time for another boring day in the same old boring school room. I gradually slid out from under the covers and crawled out of bed. I'll admit that I was a sight for sore eyes. My hair was everywhere. Then again who doesn't wake up like they've slept in a cave for seven days?

"Natalie! You're going to be late for school!" My mother called from the bottom of the stairs.

I groaned. Just what I needed after getting out of detention. A late day! I quickly rushed in getting ready for another day of school. Mom had prepared a small breakfast for me and a medium size lunch. She knew I disliked the school food. My mother always went out of her way to take care of me. I hoped I could return the favor one day.

"Natalie, the bus just passed," mom said with a giggle.

I had toast hanging out of my mouth as I watched the bus pass my house completely.

"Are you serious?!" I yelled.

"I'll take you," mom laughed. "Grab your things."

There she was again, taking care of me. I appreciated my mom more than she knew. She was more valuable to me than the items in my room.

As soon as I arrived at my classroom on time, I hit my head on my desk repeatedly. The banter of high school students around me gave me a small headache.

"And the party today is going to be epic," Lukas said with excitement.

"What party?" I asked, entering reality.

"Just a random party Malcolm is throwing after school. Are you coming?" Lukas asked, hope in his blue eyes.

I shrugged. I wasn't the partying type. I was mostly all studying, getting in trouble, and helping my mother. I saw the look of disappointment on his face.

Carol nudged me. "Of course, she's coming. I'm her only ride home so she has to."

Reasons people swear.

I smiled. "Guess I'm coming."

Lukas gave me a huge smile and turned around as the teacher entered.

"Morning class. Hope your weekend was good," Mr. Davis said, as he gave me a look. "We have a new student. So, without further ado. If I can get all your attention this way, please."

Everyone grew quiet and stared at the door as a tall guy walked in wearing blue jean pants, black shirt and black leather jacket. His black hair was shoulder length and his striking blue eyes gleamed with curiosity. He carried his book sack on his right shoulder and shot everyone a smirk that made me want to choke him for some reason.

The first thing I thought was, he was a bad boy. Or maybe a wanna-be bad boy. When our eyes met, he smirked at me. His flashy blue eyes buried into my soul.

I sighed, shivered, and stretched.

"This is Johnathan Catcher," Mr. Davis continued. "Tell us about yourself."

Johnathan nodded and looked about the whole room. "Well I'm Johnathan Catcher. I'm from Michigan. I'm 19 years old and I moved in with my uncle. I never actually went to a public school. But I was finally able to talk my uncle into allowing me to experience the life of a high school kid."
