3 Ch.3| Say Goodbye

"Hey, when you start your new life and all that, I'll still see you around, right?" Pierre said with a sense of melancholy. Jarres showed a warm but helpless smile in response, not that Pierre could see it.

"Of course Pierre. I see both you and Janice as my children." Jarres had actually raised both Janice and Pierre, in fact he raised most of the people who he had told about his immortality. The best way to keep someone loyal, is to have had them be loyal since a young age.

He had taken in many children under different Identities, and all of which he keeps in contact with. Not all of them work for him like Janice and Pierre though.

He watched Pierre leave his office, no more words were exchanged between the two. Jarres could tell that Pierre wasn't too cheerful about him leaving, it seems he would have to say goodbye to Janice as well. They were both such great kids when they were young, how awful that he would outlive all of them.

He stood up and picked up the suit Pierre brought and walked into the side room. He had a bedroom connected to his office, incase he ever had to sleep over. Jarres quickly changed, cleaning up any remaining blood on his skin. He took his torn and bloody clothing and put it into a plastic bag to be disposed of.

He brought the bag back into his office, placing it next to his desk. It was still early, and it hadn't been long since he last 'died', perhaps a few hours? He sat down at his desk, preparing to continue his work until noon, when he would then go out for lunch. Of course, having lunch was not his purpose for going out, he planned to 'die' on the way there.

He continued his work until it was one hour til his break. Janice should be here to say her goodbyes any minute now. Actually, he might miss Janice more than Pierre, she was the more well behaved one after all.

The door finally opened, only it wasn't Janice. In came Pierre! He must be there to update him on the 'crushed under a building' accident.

"Where's Janice?" Jarres inquired, his eyes narrowed. The question made Pierre pause.

"In the storage room. Crying." Pierre answered submissively. Janice had told him not to tell anyone, but under the pressure of his surrogate father, it was impossible to keep a secret. A loud sigh filled the room.

"Tell me what you have on the girl from the scene on G street." Jarres stood up and passed Pierre on the way to the door.

"Actually, nothing." Pierre quickly followed Jarres out of the room. A temporary silence followed as Jarres stared at Pierre to make him feel useless. In defense, Pierre could only say, "I did run our face recognition system on her, but nothing showed up! It's like this women doesn't exist, I swear!'

"Well, try again. Try a few times. Contact me when you find something." Jarres walked through the offices with Pierre in tow, unaware that his employees had been wondering the same thing since this morning. What happened to their boss earlier today!?

"Yes of course." Pierre sighed before continuing, "the girl looks quite pretty, what do you want her for?"

Jarres didn't know what to say to that! Could he say he was curious? Well, he was curious, but he had always been good at ignoring the impulse of curiosity. Another thing, Pierre knew him well, and he would never buy that load of crap! Fine! How about an answer similar to curiosity?

"She didn't seem too surprised by what happened. I'd like to find out why." Jarres spoke calmly, quickly stating his point. But ho ho ho, Pierre spotted the inconsistency! Jarres only ever investigated people when they were a danger to his children or his businesses! But Pierre decided against pursuing the matter, after all, Janice seemed more important.

"Janice should be somewhere in there." Pierre said as he stopped at the storage room door. Jarres spent no time standing idly by as he went in. Shutting the door before Pierre could catch a glimpse of what was inside.

"Janice, why don't you say goodbye before I leave?" Jarred spoke in a comforting tone, the sobbing he heard left his heart in a mess.
