A singular earthen spike erupted from the ground and punctured the shoulder of a rough looking boy. "ARGH! YOU STUPID EARTH MAGE!".

"WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING?!! GET HIM!" The rough looking boy shouted at 2 other boys beside him. "We can't let a lowly Earth mage beat us!"

Sweat dripping down their obvious fear stricken faces, the 2 boys took a step back before their pride finally kicked in and decided to blast their spells. From the boy to the left, a small looking fireball was thrown and from the right, a current of water. Before the 2 spells could collide with the target, a small earthen wall came up and took the brunt of the 2 spells.

From behind the small earth wall, lay a young boy who looked no older than 8. He had a brilliant shade of umber colored hair that seemed to flow seamlessly from his unwashed face, his eyes were a sharp bronze color that seemed to glow as he fought, his body was wrought with dirt and bruises and his clothes were rags that barely seemed to be eligible as clothes. Yet still, this boy could fight incredibly well.

'Ah...I'm gonna be late for dinner...' was the only thing he thought about as he fought the 3 Highschool boys.

"HOW DARE A USELESS, WEAK EARTH MAGE, DARE MESS WITH ME." A very annoying voice boomed from the other side of the wall.

Sighing, the 8 year old boy raised the wall little by little to obstruct their view, while he was doing this he also created a little ditch and covered it with a thin layer of earth that made it seem just like a dirt patch.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING! DESTROY HIS WEAK WALL!" The rough looking boy screamed.

the 3 boys on the other side of the wall had begun channeling and powering up their spells to destroy the wall, but before they did, the wall (which seemed to be a singular wall) had horizontal chunks of it fly towards the 3 boys, disrupting their spell.

When the dust cleared, they could only see the outline of a small boy running away.

"CHASE HIM!" The leader of that group roared as he started thundering his way towards the small 8 year old.

He and his friends didn't get very far as they fell into the makeshift hole that the 8 year old had previously made.

"THAT DAMNED EARTH MAAAAAAGE!" He howled into the night.

. . .

Slowing down to a halt, breathing intensely was the young boy, looking behind him to see if he had any pursuers. Seeing that nobody was following him, he doubled back one last time just in case and when he was sure that there really was no danger, he turned a left into an alleyway and made his way to a small little house that could barely be called a house. It looked more like a big shack than an actual house.

Inside the house was a rugged looking woman that had an air to her that made her look beautiful no matter what state she was in. She was staring scornfully at the young boy who had his head held down in shame.

She stared at him with a scornful glare for a couple of seconds before she finally spoke up. "Your late for dinner".

"I'm sorry mother, I got into a fight with 3 boys" The 8 year old said, his head still held down in shame.

"You got into another fight? What did I tell you about violence!" She said with a stern voice.

"I didn't start the fight! Honest to Gaia!" He said back to his mother.

"...I know you didn't, my sweet little boy would never initiate a fight without good reason" She said, picking up the little boy and wiping the grime off of his cheek before giving him a little peck on the cheek.

Peeking out from around the corner was a small looking girl with bangs that covered her eyes. "Mommy? Is Brother back home?" She sweetly asked.

"Yes sugar, Matthew's back" The Mother gently said back.

Matthew, which was the name of the young boy, had a heartwarming smile on his face as he waved at his younger sister who was no older than 4. "Hi Hazel".

"Come now, dinners ready" The Mother said, hurrying Matthew to the kitchen where his dinner lay.

"Your lucky that Mommy's a farmer" She said, puffing her chest out in pride.

On the table was a variety of greens: potatoes, carrots, broccoli and peas. They were indeed lucky that as an earth mage, there were perks that most could not have such as having the ability to make soil fertile.

"Thank you for the food" Young Matthew said as he put his plates into the sink and headed off to bed.

Laying there in bed, Matthew thought about the future. He wanted a future where he could choose what he wanted to be, what he wanted the most was freedom. He wanted the freedom to choose where he lived, what he ate, how his family lived and how he was treated. Being born an Earth Mage was no easy life, Earth Mages were very common and very weak, only being able to conjure up to only 1 earthen structure at a time and not being able to lift a lot of earth to use, the reason for this being? A curse.

Long ago, after the 4 grand mages: the fire mage, the water mage, the wind mage and the earth mage, had defeated and sealed away the demon king, one of the mages grew drunk on power and had decided to try and betray the 3 other grand mages so that they would be the strongest mage in all the lands. This was no other than the earth mage, who wanted the earth for himself and himself only.

The 3 grand mages banded together one last time and fought the earth mage. The fight was said to have lasted months and when the dust finally cleared, the 3 grand mages were victorious. They still cared for the earth mage and decided to instead of kill him, they would seal his magic away. The seal was so powerful in fact that it spanned over generations, affecting future generations of earth mages and limiting them with only being able to conjure up 1 structure at a time and had a weight limit on what they wanted to lift.

This is what the known history with the earth mages was and this is what everyone believed.

Laying down on his mattress with a single fist raised to the air was Matthew. 'Unfair? Hah, I'm not gonna let some crummy seal limit me'.
