He was an engineer who was talented and proficient in repairing mechanical devices. After 30 years of honest service, he sat down with a good memory. Two years later, he was contacted by the company about fixing the seemingly intractable problem of one of the multi-million dollar devices. They had done everything they could and no one had been able to fix the problem so they had turned to him in desperation who had been successful in fixing many of these problems. The engineer accepts this matter willingly. He spends a whole day inspecting the machine and at the end of the work, he draws a cross mark on a special part of the machine with a piece of chalk and proudly says: The problem is here, that part will be repaired and the machine will start working again. The engineer introduces his salary as $50,000. Accounting asks for reports and invoices for consumables, and he gives this report in brief: for a piece of plaster: $1, and for knowing where to cross: $4,9999!
