27 Chapter 27: Humanity

The ogres numbers began to dwindle more and more with every second that past. Kel was currently running on the battlefield, taking any ogres he met down.

Sasha and Pieck who weren't as good in battle as Annie and Mikasa had a hard time finishing off ogres, but the excellent teamwork made up for it. As they took down the last one Sasha couldn't help but sigh in relief while Pieck had the same sleepy tired expression as always. Unbeknownst to them an ogre had stood up and raised its battle axe ready to strike.

Annie saw this from afar and begun running closer waving her hands as the harness couldn't reach that far. Sasha mistook the signal and waved back smiling. It was only until the orc let out its brutish grant did they notice it. But as it was about to strike a weapon pierced through its head and made it fall backward. When Annie looked at the origin, she saw a tired bloodied Kel breathing heavily.

As the last of the ogres were killed, The second wave appeared instantly. This time it wasn't ogres but demons in armor coming from two separate hills in large numbers. Everyone got ready to attack but Kel looked towards Silvya and nodded.

'This is my limit for now without using any abilities...that's enough for today'

Kel aimed his hand for one horde and many bolts of lightning struck down on the hill and in seconds the entire horde was wiped out. For Silvya, she raised her staff into the air and many gigantic magic circles began to appear above one another piercing into the skies.

"Explosion!"

A huge blast descended onto the hill from the sky as these words were spoke by Silvya. The former hill, was now a crater with nothing but scorched dirt and rock. With the battle over Akita began running towards Kel while Mordred directly appeared next to him with a huge grin on her face.

"Haha you're reckless Master! I like it! Remember your promise? Today the victory is ours so tonight we drink!"

Kel sighed but showed a smile and nodded, his wounds began to emit warm smoke as they healed. By the time they reached Hange and the others, he was fully healed but still bloody. When Hange saw him she quickly began looking at his bloodied spots but saw wounds and sighed in relief.

"Why did you charge into the battle without a holder by your side, Alex is in a horrific state! What if the same happened to you."

Hange who was horrified after seeing the state Alex was in hope Kel would not end up the same. Rin was so put off she couldn't join the battle and went back down to Kigali City. Kel nodded his head as he replied.

"Correction, the same could have happened to all of us, it's a battle after all. If the Empire wants guaranteed safety for the seal bearers then they should restrict their bearers from leaving. Alex got into that state because he overestimated himself, it's as simple as that".

After speaking Kel began to walk towards towards Kigali with Silvya and Mordred near him. Upon arrival he looked at the many decimated homes and businesses caused by projectiles. Kel looked around more carefully than he did before and could see the extent of damage that happened prior to their arrival. Despite the loss of lives and homes, many of Kigali City's people had smiled on their faces as Kel and others walked by. Kel stopped midway, making the others come to a halt as well.

"Is something wrong?"

Still concerned, Hange was the first to ask. Kel however just shook his head before raising his arms into the air. Broken and decimated buildings began to repair themselves as he did this, stunning the residents. In less than a minute all damage was prepared due to a high tier creation magic spell. Some people were in disbelief while others to cry in joy. As a small city with no high tier Magus of it's own, it's often overlooked and left to fend for itself by the Empire.

After the buildings were restored, Kel and others proceeded on but he never spoke but instead just walked in silence. Upon arriving at their lodgings, Kel went to his room and stayed there even as the others left to attend a celebratory meal prepared for them.

Kel was now laying on his bed, just staring at the ceiling. Soon a familiar feminine voice could be heard by him.

"K-Kel-sama, you should go join the celebrations. The people are cheering your name and calling you you a hero".

Kel sighed as he replied

"I won't go out of my way to help people, but watching them suffer when I can do something by just raising my hands didn't sit well with me. I chose to become a monster but I never said I would abandon my humanity completely. We'll join the festivities in a bit, Iet me just lay down some more"
