5 Mason

"So you're telling me that you wouldn't say that you love her when you do?" Vanessa asks.

"It's not that I don't want to say it because I'm scared, I don't want to say it because I'm scared of what would happen after I say it. Every time I admit my love for Violet out loud something bad always happens." I explain punching the bag

I decided to work out with Vanessa this morning to take the edge off. Things are going so good with Violet and it's making me nervous because I don't know what going to happen next. Are we going to get married and have kids or is the world going to end because we decided to be together? We don't know.

"In my,-" she lunges forward to stretch "opinion it sounds like a you problem." She says.

"A me problem?" I ask

"It's not her holding back it's you." She says taking a sip of her water.

I look at her about to say something then my doorbells rings. Must be the masseuse arriving early.

"You staying for a Massage or what?" I ask

"Would love you but I can't, Trey wants me to go to a basketball game with him at some college that is interested in him, duties of being his girlfriend." She says shaking fake pompoms.

"You two are something else. Hey, I'm glad we are worked everything out, you know. You two belonged together in the first place." I tell her

"Yeah, I guess it worked out for everyone including Violet. You need to stop being so afraid and careful Mason. If you want to be with her let it be known. Stop holding her off and call the girl. I know that was her calling you earlier." She says

"Oh that." I laugh walking her to the door

"Yeah that," she smiles "I gotta hit the showers and get ready for this game, I'll see you and Violet tomorrow night?" She asks implying the party she is having that she invited us too.

"Yeah. See you then." I say shutting the door.

Vanessa is the second best ex girlfriend I've ever had. I'm happy she cheated on me with my best friend. At first it was upsetting but then it hit me that those two liked each other for a long time and I was in the way. How could I be upset about someone I didn't want in the first place? Trey and Vanessa have a complicated love like Violet and I. It's nice to have a friend who can give me advice which is why I still choose to be friends with Vanessa.

I get a ring on my phone from an unfamiliar number and I decide to answer it hoping Violet didn't call me on a different number.

"Hello?" I ask

"Mason, it's me, your father." He says

"Oh, hey Michael." I say flatly

"Michale? Since when have you resorted to calling me by my first name." He asks

"What do you want Michale?" I asks getting annoyed

"I call bearing good news son, you see I set up a trust fund for you when you turned eighteen back when you were born and I have been depositing funds since you were born. I wanted to wait til you graduated college to make the funds accessible." He says

"I'm not going to college. You know this." I interrupt ready to hang up.

"Well that's what I wanted to talk to you about. Since you will not be going to a university or even a community college I have made the funds accessible for you. Maybe you'll start a business and keep building on to those funds." He continues

"I don't need you or your money Michale." I say about to hang up

"There is three million Dollars in the bank for you Mason, take it or leave for emergencies but it will always be there for you." He says before I click the red button.

Who the fuck does Michael think he is? He thinks he can just be a shitty father and then throw three million dollars in my face to make up for it? I don't need anyone's pity money especially not his. He will find away to make me think just because he gave me that money that he can just run me when he wants to.

"Mr. Jones, Massage pose' to make you not tense, you tense like an angry bear." Greta says digging her elbows into my back.

"Ooooh fuck." I say as she finally cracks the tense spot. As she rubs her fingers deeper my problems almost fade away.

As I was relaxing and enjoying my thoughts and massage my mother texts me. I said my problems almost fade away. She is another human who I cannot stand sometimes. She bounces from guy to guy hoping someone will love her like my father did before she cheated on him.

She says something about a very important family dinner tonight and would like it if I can be there. I agree for the sake of an argument. Great! My mother probably wants to introduce me to some new dude she is seeing. Probably some rich guy she'll end up marrying, as if she hasn't been married five other times, just to divorce in a year. How else would we make money around here? Not that my mother can be a normal human being an invest in a business or some shit, no, she chooses to sleep around with every rich guy she meets. Greta digs her elbows into my lower back and cracks it and it feels great.

"Greta you can take a break now. I think I'm done here." I tell her as I get off the table.

"But Mr.Jones you have not worked out all the kinks." She says signaling for me to come back on the table.

"Greta I can assure I am done for the day." I say with annoyance in my voice

She scoffs "American men a chicken." Then continues to clean up.

Just as Greta was finishing up my doorbell rings. Did Vanessa forget something? I answer the door to see, Violet? What could she be doing here?
