**********

Blood dripped down from his arm as he stared down the beaten body of his opponent. Barely acknowledging his surroundings to focus on his enemy. His fingers broken, a black eye, exhaustion on his very being. The enemy approached with his knife glinting brightly in the dark alleys.

"You are one tough bitch, you know that?" The enemy wheezed.

"I was called Undying for a reason you know?" He panted.

SLASH!

PUNCH!

"Ackh!" He managed to dodge anymore incoming attacks and punched away, finally defeating his last enemy, as it fell to the pile of bodies near a garbage can.

"Fi…nally" He grunted.

(I always knew I'd have a high chance of death by getting jumped, but over 10 people? What the fuck!?). He sighed and sat down the wall, losing more blood and on the final vestiges of his life. (Always knew playing vengeance would've bitten me in the ass one day, just didn't expect it to be so soon).

Consciousness fading, he reflected upon his life from birth to now.

**********

Byne Jason, born in a middle-class family, was someone who was slightly above average in everything. Impressive, but not one that would be remembered all that much in history.

However, in high school, he had an underclassman that was what you could call a boy wonder; perfect grade, never late, barely absent -only on days, he was sick-, also athletic. He was someone who you would think wouldn't interact with Byne.

But...

The underclassman always followed him. In lunch breaks, he would follow Byne to the rooftop and eat with him. Always following him when he's going to school or returning home even when his house is in the opposite direction. When Byne asked why he's following him, he said he looked up to him.

"Why?"

"Because you're genuine"

"Genuine?"

"Yep, genuine. You are genuine; you don't put up a mask to better fit in with the others. You don't try and brag to impress people, nor do you act like an edge lord to steer people away from you. To me, genuine people are the best kind of people."

After that conversation the two became closer, they spent more time together—much to the chagrin of his admirers.

However, all those peaceful days came to an end.

You see, popularity brings both good and bad things. You are well-liked, and also hated. People admire and envy you. Some even complain about why you're so popular.

One such student thought that the underclassman was getting a little too chummy with his self-proclaimed "girlfriend" and so…

He gathered and convinced some of his peers to ambush him. Sent to the hospital an hour after school ended. The underclassman's family and Byne rushed to him after hearing about it. Hoping he was safe only to hear…

"I'm sorry for your loss" The doctor with a somber tone.

"Wh-..what do you mean?" His mother asked.

"Unfortunately for Mr. Johnson, he lost too much blood, getting stabbed in the jugular vein with a glass bottle, filling up his throat and suffocating him"

Rumors went wild, some saying he was unlucky and got beaten up by gangsters, some was about how the little shit was getting conceited and got what was coming to him. …

Fortunately for Byne, he overheard the dumbasses bragging about their achievement.

He promptly beat them up and got expelled, from that day on, he developed a grudge against gangsters, beating them up left and right until now…

**********

(You probably aren't proud of me, but I don't regret a single thing. I look at all these pieces of shit and I imagine what they've already done: extorting students, stealing their families, scamming them. I just can't stand by and let them get away with it. I think about what they've done to you and I just snap. I'm probably going to hell for this, beating them up without proper evidence, I've become the same person that killed you in the first place. But I just want you to know that this isn't just for you, it's for me. If only I went with you that day, maybe we could've run away and prevented this. This is just to satisfy my guilty conscience. I'm sorry).

And on December 8th, 20XX, Byne Jason apologized to his classmate—Finian Johnson—, and died.
