4 Good Intentions

I Wish You Didn't Love me

-Good Intentions-

"Ms. Jones! Ms. Jones!"

"For the last time Damion, it's Soran." I looked at him briefly before I focused back on the proceeding documents that lay on my hands. While I have to use my last name formally I much rather prefer my assistants to call me by my first name.

"S-sorry," he said. "It's your mother. I wanted to tell you sooner but-" Before he could say anything I heard the elevator ding signaling someone was here. I instantly looked over at Damion. Seeing his expression I knew exactly why he was more nervous than usual.

As I heard the elevator door open I quickly put away the documents I was working on and stood up from my chair. She never wants to see me unless she needs something. And I wasn't in the mood to hear her today. I was finally gonna close the deal to an important project that could launch my career even further.

The noise of her heels made her presence clear. I waited patiently for her to arrive at my office door. Eventually, the doors opened and she entered with a cold face. She has always had a stern look to her. And for that, many people are intimidated by her, and fairly so. But after years of knowing her, I no longer flinch at her presence.

"Good morning Mrs. Jones," Damion said while putting his head down respectfully. My mother looked at him and took a second to try and identify him. But he's new, I fired my last assistant after I found out he was getting paid to give out information about me to my mother.

"Leave," she said sternly without even taking another glance at him. Damion quickly left, leaving me alone with her.

I took a deep breath.

"Good morning mother" She just looked at me in disappointment. I followed her movement as she made her way to sit in my chair.

"Why haven't you been going on the dates I've arranged for you," she said as she sat down while setting down her purse on my desk. I noticed her examining my desk full of clutter. I knew I should have cleaned it yesterday. But I was too busy trying to bribe the men that my mother wanted me to meet these past few weeks. I guess one of them ratted me out. Asshole. I'm definitely getting my money back.

"Soran!" She raised her voice in frustration.

"I'm sorry mother, I've been too busy with the company," I said without any tone of regret. I looked directly at her. She knows how I am by now. I'm not interested in marriage. The only thing I want is to grow my business. And I can't do that with the responsibility of becoming someone's wife.

She sat up and made her way to the window behind my desk and began observing the city view.

"I told you that I could wait for you to be ready, and I've kept that promise to you." she paused and looked over at me. "And now that it's time for you to do your real obligation, you refuse? This useless company job you won't let go isn't your obligation " I looked at her with a cold face. This isn't the first time she's brought this up. I can feel her patience thinning. But her wishes aren't my concern.

" I understand how you feel but I can't d-"

"Do you want your father and me to suffer longer!" She turned around to fully face me. She wants me to feel bad. I know my father's going through a hard time with his business. His once well-known service company is slowly fading with all the competition rising up. And they're becoming tight on money.

I know exactly why she's rushing me now. She needs me to hurry up and marry a wealthy man that can help them with their situation. But I already decided long ago that I wanted no part in that. And to avoid another claim from my mother that I owe her money for raising me, I stopped depending on them.

"That's not my intention, but I don't have any obligation to help you," I said. I could tell those words angered her. But she tried her best to conceal any ounce of emotion. She walked over to me and smiled, grabbing my face roughly and forcing me to look at her directly in the eyes.

"I set you up for another date tomorrow. And Soran, and I'm advising you. This is your last chance before I really get mad." And with that, she picked up her purse and left.

I grazed my fingers over my cheek, feeling the warmth of the impacted skin. As always, there goes my "perfect" day.
